Course Curriculum

8

  • The course curriculum is a balanced mix of theory and practical learning, making it both challenging and engaging. Positive aspects include experienced professors and hands-on assignments, while the workload can feel intense at times.
  • Classes typically run from morning to afternoon, with breaks in between. Some faculty members guide students on job opportunities. I deeply admire Dr. Song for his teaching clarity and research mentorship.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to the following universities:
    • Georgia Tech: Rejected
    • University of Maryland: Accepted
    • Purdue University: Waitlisted
    • UIUC: Rejected
    • University of Florida: Accepted
    • Pace University: Accepted
    • University of California, Long Beach: Accepted
    • University of Cincinnati: Accepted
  • I have received confirmations from all of these universities. In my view, the strength of my application in co-curricular activities wasn't that good but I would say that my academic were excellent, and I had put in a lot of effort in my essays if I had a strong background in the curricular activities to support my academics, I might have gotten into the universities that I was rejected from.
  • The major reason for me choosing the University of Cincinnati is because of its co-op program and the scholarship they gave me. I applied to the university through the Common App and was also exempted from the hundred-dollar fee because I think I applied early on, but there were no essays and the application was pretty straightforward.
  • My SAT score was 1450 and I don't think there was an eligibility requirement for applying for this opportunity. I think that the university updates criteria often.
  • My experience was quite smooth and easy, as I don't think I wrote any essays or anything that was very hard to apply to.
  • I applied in early October in the early action process, as that exempted me from the $100 fees. I waited for the decision up till early March, and I got my decision. You get the opportunity to learn more from the team about the university. Then the university would get you involved in WhatsApp groups and also you can then register for housing and any roommates that you wish to live with. I had to take a math test that would determine my Mathematics course path and then I registered for classes

Faculty

6

  • Typical CS classrooms have a strength of at least 150 students. Don't get me wrong but the number of students that will be attending the classes will be way lower after the first two weeks of the class so I guess the actual number of students that would be there in the classroom would be around 40.
  • Many Indian students can be found in engineering in general. So you will find your space eventually.

Campus Life

10

  • The University of Cincinnati has one main campus in Cincinnati, Ohio. It offers great facilities like a well-equipped library, sports centres, and medical services.
  • Popular events include cultural fests and career fairs. There are active clubs like AFFIRM, where I’m a treasurer, and sports are a big part of campus life. Extracurriculars range from adventure trips to volunteering and student organisations promoting community engagement.

Part Time Jobs

  • Many students secure TA, RA, or DA roles, earning around $12–$20 per hour. Other on-campus jobs, like library assistants or dining hall staff, offer $11 hourly. Students can work up to 20 hours a week during the semester. While jobs are competitive, being proactive and networking with faculty improves chances.
  • I am an RA myself, which restricts me to working only 5 hours a week, as you cannot work more than 20 hours and being an RA counts as 15 hours of work every week.
  • There’s no particular preference for a job; the focus is on securing any available opportunity. I consistently applied for various positions over two semesters, which eventually led to my current job. This persistence taught me the value of patience and determination, as finding on-campus jobs can be competitive. My experience highlights the importance of staying proactive and continuously improving application efforts.

Placement

4

  • Around 80% of students secure jobs within six months of graduation, with average salaries ranging from $60,000 to $80,000 annually. Common methods include campus recruitment, networking, internships, and job portals.
  • Career fairs help, but finding co-ops and jobs often depends on personal effort. For international students, it can be more challenging, requiring extensive applications. Major companies hiring include P&G, GE, and Kroger, with roles in tech and analytics.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • On-campus housing is amazing at UC. Just the website provided by UC was enough for me. I also selected a person that I already knew so living here was easy. Rent for my on-campus housing was $1200 a month, which was an apartment. That is the maximum you could be paying. No security challenges were faced by me and the RAs were helpful too.
  • This being an urban university, everything was near and accessible.

Exams

  • Exams are not a big deal at UC. Make sure that you have the good intent with perfectly designed answers. I have also not interviewed for being a student at UC.
  • I think you need to provide an IELTS or TOEFL score just to prove your proficiency in English.
  • I think that the external documents played an important role in the admissions process rather than the scores on the tests that you give.

Fees

  • Fees are charged on a semester-wise basis, with an opportunity to pay it in installments in the semester also available with an additional cost of 32 dollars.
  • The breakdown below is for a semester with a scholarship of 7500 on tuition and 2500 on housing.
  • Tuition: 7500
  • Housing: 6600
  • Insurance: 1300
  • Campus services: 600
  • A day pass in Cincinnati costs $2, which can take you anywhere. Kroger and Target are close and this is an urban university with various opportunities to dine in.

Scholarship

  • International Outreach Scholarship $7500 per semester for 8 semesters.
  • Global Scholarships: $2500 per semester for 2 semesters.
  • All these scholarships are based on the funding available for the university. Also, you don't have to apply for these scholarships, as the university automatically considers you for them.
  • No financial aid is given to any internationals I know. Most of the internationals that are here have the scholarship capped at 7500 for a semester in my batch but again, the award defers based on the funding for the university.
