- I did choose Binghamton University as research on clean energy technologies is good. Also it is a R1 University which means high research activities goes on in the university.
- Campus is large and beautiful.
- Our department has good faculties.
Dislikes
- Especially for PhD student to get an advisor is tough. If you got already admitted and then graduate director is the advisor until you find an advisor related to your research interest. I am course complete and passed the PhD qualifying exam but still I am looking for an advisor.
Required Exams for Admission
Binghamton University is really beautiful university and it is research oriented university.
Course Curriculum
The courses designed are good especially for the renewable energy area.
Faculty
Actually it depends on classes. Some classes had 30 students and other classes had just 4 students. Professor Choi who was my advisor for Master's program was very knowledgeable and very helpful.
Campus Life
There are 200+ organizations to join. But as PhD student you don't get that much time to participate. The research labs are really good, Libraries have printing services too, Wifi of University is also good. For sports there are tennis courts, soccer fields, etc.
Placement
Within 3 months most of the students get a job offer. Most of the students who come for MS program get full time job. Average salary is around $70000 per year.
Accommodation
I stay in one bedroom apartment. But there are rooms available with sharing also. Average cost is around $400 per month.
Exams
Mainly GRE and TOEFL for my program. My scores: GRE 293, TOEFL 84/120 University requirement varies according to the program. I had to submit SOP, 3 LORs and Resume. In SOP basically what you have done in your undergraduate degree and what is your research interest should be mentioned and with which professors you are interested to work. In LORs basically your undergraduate faculties have to mention how you were during their class and he/she is good in particular field. In resume you need to include your education, paper publication, professional experience all in one page. If you are submitting a CV then it can be more than one page.
Fees
The I-20 for my program was $43,100 which is for one year. But actual actual cost is much less.
Scholarship
I got Teaching Assistant position for 3 semesters which covered tuition fees and also had stipend of 34,500$. I got this scholarship after one semester of PhD program based on my performance.
