Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management opens Fall 2027 applications on August 19, 2026. Indian applicants get a rolling window across MS Finance, Accountancy, and Marketing tracks. Owen confirmed the calendar in an August 14, 2026 admissions notice. The Master of Management degree stays closed to F-1 sponsorship candidates, pending federal approvals.
- Four specialised master’s tracks stay test-optional for Fall 2027: MS Finance, Master of Accountancy, Master of Marketing, and Master of Management.
- MS Finance Round 1 closes September 10, 2026, with international applicants locked out after the April 5, 2027 cut-off.
- F-1 candidates cannot enrol in the nine-month Master of Management until Owen secures the required federal approvals, per the Owen admissions page.
Owen sits inside the top 25 US business schools by MBA reputation. Indian nationals form the second-largest nationality group in the full-time MBA class, at 11% of the intake.

Which Vanderbilt Owen Programs Are Test-Optional for Fall 2027?
Owen keeps the GMAT and GRE mandatory only for the full-time MBA. Six other programmes waive the entrance exam entirely. Four of those are formally test-optional, meaning candidates may submit a score or skip it. The test-optional list covers:
- MS Finance, a ten-month track for finance careers
- Master of Accountancy, a nine-month CPA-aligned programme
- Master of Marketing, an analytics-heavy specialisation
- Master of Management, a nine-month generalist degree
The Executive MBA, Master of Management in Health Care, and the Accelerator Summer Business Immersion also drop the exam bar. Indian candidates without a strong GMAT can still route through MS Finance or MS Marketing. English proficiency scores remain non-negotiable.
Key Insight: Test-optional at Owen is not weight-neutral. Admissions readers still favour a submitted 700+ GMAT when an undergraduate transcript is light on calculus, statistics or econometrics, a pattern most US B-schools apply informally.
Why Is the Master of Management Closed to F-1 Applicants?
The Owen admissions page states: "Students who require F-1 visa sponsorship are not eligible to enrol in the Master of Management program due to required federal approvals." US citizens and permanent residents can still apply. The nine-month, on-campus programme is not STEM-designated at present. Owen says it "regularly evaluates degree classifications" and will notify prospects if the status changes.
Thom Golden, Associate Dean for Strategic Enrollment, framed the wider cycle in the school notice. "Choosing a graduate business program is one of the most important investments students make in their future," Golden said.
What it means for Indian Students: If you need an F-1 visa for Fall 2027, route your Owen application to MS Finance, Master of Accountancy or Master of Marketing. Do not pay the fee for a Master of Management submission; the federal block sits at enrolment, not at admission review.

MS Finance Fall 2027 Deadlines and Fees for Indian Applicants
Owen runs five decision rounds for the MS in Finance from Vanderbilt University. Round 1 carries the strongest scholarship weight, per the Owen admissions page.
| Round | Deadline (US Central) | IST Equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | September 10, 2026 | September 11, 2026 |
| Round 2 | October 29, 2026 | October 30, 2026 |
| Round 3 | January 13, 2027 | January 14, 2027 |
| Round 4 | February 24, 2027 | February 25, 2027 |
| International cut-off | April 5, 2027 | April 6, 2027 |
| Round 5 | April 28, 2027 | April 29, 2027 (domestic only) |
First-year tuition for MS Finance is listed at USD 74,500, which converts to ₹71.3 lakh at ₹95.66 per USD (August 2026). That figure sits above one year of TCS or Infosys mid-career pay for the same graduate profile.
Important Distinction: The April 5, 2027 international cut-off matters more than Round 5 for Indian applicants. Miss April 5 and you cannot secure an I-20 in time for a September 2027 start, even if Owen keeps taking domestic files till April 28.
How Do Indian Students Apply to Vanderbilt Owen?
The application portal goes live on August 19, 2026 across all programmes. Owen keeps a single online form, not a separate form per degree. Indian candidates need:
- A four-year US bachelor’s degree or equivalent, per Owen’s admissions criteria
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 100 or IELTS 7.0 or Duolingo 130
- Two recommendation letters and a professional résumé
- A written statement of purpose plus a video essay
- Optional GMAT or GRE for the four test-optional tracks
The Master of Management runs on monthly deadlines of the 5th, from October 5, 2026 through May 5, 2027. Only US citizens, permanent residents and non-F-1 candidates will progress to enrolment.
What Vanderbilt Owen’s India Class Looks Like Now
India is the second-largest nationality group at Owen after the US. Indian students form 11% of the full-time MBA from Vanderbilt University class. The recent MBA class posted a median base salary of USD 165,550, which converts to ₹1.58 crore at current rates. That salary places graduates in the top decile of US management pay.
Indian applicants should note that STEM-designated tracks unlock the 24-month F-1 OPT extension. MS Finance and MAcc historically feed banking, consulting and Big 4 pipelines from Owen.Indian applicants targeting a Fall 2027 seat now have a fixed opening date. The Owen portal goes live on August 19, 2026. MS Finance Round 1 closes on September 10, 2026. F-1 candidates must skip the Master of Management and pick MS Finance, Master of Accountancy or Master of Marketing.
