Darla Moore School of Business Eligibility for Indian Students
Eligibility at Darla Moore splits by level. Undergraduate applicants are read against the University of South Carolina’s holistic freshman review, which weighs the transcript first, then course rigor, essay, and standardised test scores. Graduate applicants are read against Moore School program-specific bars, most of which set both a GMAT or GRE band and an English-proficiency floor.
- UG general entry: Class XII with 65 percent or higher across the qualifying board. Competitive admits sit closer to 75 percent.
- PG general entry: Recognised four-year Bachelor’s degree, roughly 60 percent equivalent (a US 3.0 GPA). MBA and PhD look for stronger transcripts, roughly 70 percent and above.
- MBA and MIB standardised tests: Valid GMAT or GRE within five years. GMAT institutional code JV2-TP-84 for the MBA, JV2-TP-38 for the MIB, and JV2-TP-28 for the Master of Accountancy.
- PhD standardised tests: GRE for the Economics track, GMAT or GRE for the Business Administration tracks. Committees expect scores in the 60th to 70th percentile band or above.
- MBA work experience: Two or more years of full-time, post-Bachelor experience is the competitive floor per the Moore School’s own guidance.
Every accepted English-proficiency test and its published minimum by level is listed below, drawn from the USC international undergraduate page, the USC Graduate School international page, and the Moore School MBA, MIB, and PhD admission pages.
| Test | UG Min. | MIB / MAcc Min. | MBA Min. | PhD Min. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 6.5 | 6.5 | 7.0 | 7.0 |
| TOEFL iBT | 77 | 80 | 95 | 100 |
| PTE Academic | 53 | 53 | 68 | 68 |
| Duolingo English Test | 115 | 120 | 115 | Not published |
Darla Moore School of Business English Test Waiver Options for Indians
USC and the Moore School both publish English waivers open to Indian applicants, though the paths differ by level. Fetch these before paying for a test slot you may not need.
- UG waiver: USC publishes an "English proficiency exempt list" of 40-plus countries and also exempts US high-school graduates. Indian applicants whose Class XII was completed at an IB or English-instruction ICSE or CBSE school may request a review, but a formal medium of instruction (MOI) letter from the school head is generally required to substitute for IELTS or TOEFL.
- MIB and MAcc waiver: The Graduate School exempts applicants who hold a degree from an English-medium program in an English-official country. Indian applicants who have completed a full US or UK-taught postgraduate program qualify, and the MAcc page also waives English testing for applicants who have spent three or more years studying in the US.
- MBA and PhD waiver: Waivers are tighter here. Only a fully English-taught bachelor’s from an English-official country counts. An Indian medium-of-instruction letter alone is unlikely to clear the MBA bar, so plan to sit IELTS or TOEFL if your degree language is Hindi, Tamil, or another regional language.
Planning note: Book the IELTS or TOEFL slot at least eight weeks before your target Darla Moore deadline. Scores take up to 13 days to reach USC through ETS or IDP once you nominate USC code 5818, and Moore reviewers will not release a decision without a verified score in the file.
Darla Moore School of Business PG Programs and English Requirements
The Moore School runs one of the deeper US business master’s portfolios, anchored by an internationally ranked Master of International Business that has held the US News top spot for international business for over three decades. For the complete course-wise fees breakdown, see our fees page.

Darla Moore School of Business UG Programs for Indian Applicants
Undergraduate business majors at Darla Moore are declared inside the University of South Carolina degree, so the application goes to USC first and the Moore School major is confirmed during orientation once the freshman meets the internal GPA and course prerequisites. All five majors below use the USC international undergraduate English floor of IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 77, and eligibility is read against Class XII marks, essay, and course rigor.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| B.S Finance | 4 years | Class XII with 65% or higher, Mathematics studied through Class XII | IELTS 6.5 |
| B.A Economics | 4 years | Class XII with 65% or higher, Mathematics preferred | IELTS 6.5 |
| B.Sc Management | 4 years | Class XII with 65% or higher in any stream | IELTS 6.5 |
| B.S Marketing | 4 years | Class XII with 65% or higher in any stream | IELTS 6.5 |
| B.S Human Resources | 4 years | Class XII with 65% or higher in any stream | IELTS 6.5 |
USC no longer requires the SAT or ACT for freshman admission, but international applicants may submit either to strengthen a borderline transcript. Indian freshmen typically clear the Moore School internal GPA threshold if they carry a Class XII aggregate of 75 percent or higher going into the direct-admit review.
Darla Moore School of Business MBA Admissions Rounds and GMAT
The Moore School runs two full-time MBA formats. The One-Year MBA is a 12 to 14-month general management track, and the International MBA is a two-year cohort program built around a full-semester international immersion (students take one language and country track and spend the second year applying it in a foreign business setting). Both open once a year for Fall entry and share the same five-round application calendar.
Darla Moore School of Business MBA GMAT and GRE Waivers
GMAT or GRE remains the default for both MBA formats, valid for five years from test date. The Moore School publishes a formal waiver process, and Indian applicants who fit any of the profiles below may request one during the application.
- Master’s or doctoral degree holders from an accredited university (Indian IITs, IIMs, and NIRF-ranked master’s degrees qualify).
- US military service or veteran status, which mostly does not apply to Indian civilian applicants.
- Advanced professional certification or CFA Level II or higher, evaluated case by case.
Interview is by invitation only after a preliminary review. It is conducted in person, regionally through admissions travel to Bengaluru and Mumbai, or via video, and decisions typically arrive within two weeks of the interview.
Darla Moore School of Business International MBA vs One-Year MBA
Indian applicants often assume the International MBA is just a longer version of the One-Year, but the two are structurally different. The One-Year MBA is a broad-tent general management degree with domestic US career outcomes as the anchor. The International MBA is a language-plus-region cohort, and the tuition reflects the longer two-year runway (USD 60,384 as a whole-program non-resident fee, around INR 57.86 Lakhs). Choose the format that matches your post-MBA geography, not the ranking headline.
Insider note: The Moore School flags Round 3 (15 January 2027) as the international MBA preferred round because it leaves enough runway for I-20 issuance and F-1 visa slot booking at the US consulates in India before August classes. Later rounds are read the same way academically, but visa timing becomes tight past March.
Darla Moore School of Business PhD Admissions and Funding
Darla Moore runs one of the larger business PhD portfolios in the American Southeast, admitting once a year for August entry. The Fall 2026 cycle has closed. The next live cycle is Fall 2027, with the same three-round pattern the school publishes every year, tied to the University of South Carolina’s fiscal calendar.
Darla Moore School of Business PhD Specializations for Indian Scholars
The Moore School accepts PhD applications across nine specialisations. Test-score expectations sit in the 60th to 70th percentile band or above on GMAT or GRE, and there are no waivers.
- Accounting, Finance, and International Business (general and International Finance sub-track).
- Economics, Marketing, and Management (Organisational Behaviour and Human Resources).
- Management (Business Policy and Strategy) and Management Science (Production and Operations).
Darla Moore School of Business PhD Funding for Indian Scholars
The Moore School offers graduate assistantship packages to admitted PhD applicants, which typically combine a tuition remission with a monthly stipend and a teaching or research assignment. Amounts vary by specialisation and cohort year, and are confirmed in the offer letter. Acceptance of admission and award requires a USD 250 (around INR 23,953) enrollment deposit by 15 April in the offer year.
Planning note: Contact your target specialisation’s PhD coordinator before you file. Faculty fit shapes the admit list at Moore more than composite scores, so a short, well-researched email to a professor whose recent work aligns with your research statement can move your file forward.
Darla Moore School of Business Application Process for Indian Students
The application path splits by level. Undergraduates use the Common Application (accepted at USC alongside the university’s own portal), while graduates apply directly on the Moore School Salesforce portal. Both are online-only for international applicants, and both close at 11.59 pm US Eastern time on the deadline shown in the table above.
- Create your account. Undergraduates open a Common Application account (the Fall 2027 cycle opened 1 August 2026) or a USC application account at apply.sc.edu. Graduates create the Moore School Salesforce login through sc.edu/study/colleges_schools/moore/apply.
- Fill out the application. Enter education history, choose the intended major and Fall 2027 term, upload the essay or statement of purpose, and add recommender contact details.
- Pay the application fee. Pay the USD 100 (around INR 9,581) application fee on the Common App or USC portal for undergraduate, or the USD 50 (around INR 4,791) application fee on the Moore Salesforce portal for graduate. Both are non-refundable.
- Send official scores. Nominate USC code 5818 for TOEFL, and send IELTS through the IDP electronic delivery to USC. GMAT and GRE codes are program-specific (JV2-TP-84 for the MBA, JV2-TP-38 for the MIB, and 5818 for the university).
- Submit transcripts. USC accepts self-uploaded transcripts for review, but a final admission decision requires a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES-accredited service (WES is the most common choice for Indian applicants).
- Recommendations and interview. Two recommender questionnaires are needed for graduate programs. MBA and MIB interviews are by invitation, held via video or during Moore’s Bengaluru and Mumbai admissions visits.
Darla Moore School of Business Admission Decisions Timeline
Decisions roll out on a fixed calendar. Undergraduate Early Action closes 15 October 2026 with decisions returned by mid-December 2026; Honors and Top Scholar decisions arrive by mid-February; Regular Decision by mid-March. Graduate MBA decisions land within two weeks of the invited interview, and MIB decisions arrive within four to six weeks of each round. Once admitted, most programs require an enrollment deposit (USD 1,000 for full-time MBA, USD 250 for PhD) to hold your seat and trigger the I-20 issuance for the F-1 visa.
Darla Moore School of Business Documents Required
The document list is paperwork-only, distinct from the academic thresholds in the eligibility section. Bundle these before you open the application to avoid the last-week upload crunch. Indian applicants should keep both a scanned soft copy and a certified hard copy of each item, since the I-20 process at USC’s International Student Services also asks for originals during check-in.
- Valid Indian passport with 18 months of validity beyond program start.
- Class X and Class XII mark sheets and passing certificates (undergraduate applicants).
- Bachelor’s degree transcripts and provisional or final degree certificate (postgraduate applicants).
- NACES-accredited (typically WES) course-by-course evaluation for graduate programs.
- Official IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo score report sent electronically to USC.
- Official GMAT or GRE score report for MBA, MIB, MAcc, and PhD applicants.
- Statement of Purpose (500 words for MIB, longer essays for MBA and PhD).
- Two recommendation letters or recommender questionnaires for graduate programs.
- Updated CV or resume detailing academics, work, internships, and leadership.
- Financial documentation covering one full year of tuition and living, needed for the I-20 after admission.
- Photocopy of the passport bio page and one recent photograph.
Darla Moore School of Business Acceptance Rate for Indian Students
The University of South Carolina admits roughly 64 percent of freshmen overall, but the Darla Moore School of Business runs its own internal selectivity for direct-admit business majors. Its consistent US News top-40 undergraduate business ranking band and its number one Master of International Business ranking push application volume up each cycle, particularly from Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese applicants.
Darla Moore School of Business Undergraduate Acceptance Rate
The most recent published figure for the Moore School’s direct-admit business undergraduate cohort is 49.2 percent for the Fall 2024 intake, per Poets and Quants. This is roughly 15 points more selective than USC as a whole. Indian applicants clearing a Class XII aggregate of 75 percent with a strong essay and course-rigor profile land comfortably inside the admit band.
Darla Moore School of Business MBA Selectivity
Darla Moore does not publish an institutional MBA acceptance rate, but the class profile suggests a competitive-but-accessible band, estimated at 30 to 40 percent based on the school’s yield disclosures and its ACM (Association of MBAs) cohort structure. Median GMAT for the incoming class sits close to 620, and Indian applicants with 680+ typically clear the composite bar.
USA F-1 Student Visa Process for Darla Moore School of Business
Indian students admitted to any Darla Moore program need the F-1 non-immigrant student visa to enter the United States and study full-time. USC’s International Student Services team issues the Form I-20 after you accept the offer, pay the enrollment deposit, and submit financial documentation for one full academic year, and the I-20 is what you carry to the US embassy or consulate for the visa interview.
The process runs in five steps once the I-20 is in hand. First, pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (around INR 33,534) on the ICE portal. Second, complete the DS-160 non-immigrant visa application. Third, pay the MRV visa application fee of USD 185 (around INR 17,725). Fourth, book the visa appointment at the US consulate in Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, or Kolkata. Fifth, attend the interview with financial statements, I-20, and academic documents. F-1 visas can be issued up to 365 days before program start, so Fall 2027 admits can begin the process as soon as they receive the I-20.
2026 update: US consulate slot availability in India remains tight during the April to July peak. Book your F-1 visa slot within a week of receiving the I-20 to avoid the summer rush and keep a two-week buffer before your Darla Moore orientation date.
Tips and Application Checklist for Darla Moore School of Business
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Darla Moore over recent Fall cycles. Combine them with your program-specific requirements above.
- Anchor to Fall 2027 early. Draft your Common App essay in July 2026 so the 1 August rollover finds it ready for submission.
- Request WES evaluation eight weeks out. Course-by-course reports take four to six weeks from Indian universities that mail transcripts, and Moore reviewers cannot decision without it.
- Fit the MBA round to your visa runway. Round 3 (15 January 2027) is the school’s preferred international round because it leaves time for consulate slots.
- File the GMAT waiver request inside the application, not after. Moore evaluates waivers only alongside the full file, and after-submission requests are declined.
- Line up two recommenders by September 2026. Give them the recommender questionnaire link plus a one-page brief on your target major and your standout achievements.
- Book IELTS or TOEFL by end of September 2026 if you are targeting Round 3 MBA or MIB Priority. Score reporting to USC takes 10 to 13 days after the test date.
- Prepare financial documentation early. USC needs one year of tuition plus USD 20,000 in living-cost proof for the I-20, so line up the bank statements and sponsorship affidavit before the offer.
- Ping the Moore admissions team from India. A short LinkedIn or email note to the international admissions coordinator flags your candidacy and often triggers a virtual info session invite.
Darla Moore School of Business admissions for Fall 2027 open around the same Common Application and Salesforce portal windows every year, so an Indian applicant who anchors to the 15 October 2026 Early Action or 15 January 2027 MBA Round 3 date has 8 to 20 weeks of runway to file cleanly. The English test, GMAT or GRE waiver decision, and NACES evaluation are the three items that most often slip, so start those first and let the essay and portal data follow.
