High Point University Eligibility for Indian Students

HPU practices holistic review, weighing Class XII performance, English proficiency, personal essays, and recommendations rather than a fixed cut-off. Indian applicants must show academic readiness plus English fluency at institution-published minimums.

  • UG general entry: Class XII from a recognised Indian board with an aggregate around 65 percent or above.
  • PG general entry: A three or four-year Bachelor’s degree with roughly 65 percent, equivalent to a US 3.0 GPA.
  • English proficiency: Required for all non-native English speakers unless a waiver applies.

Program-specific floors sit above these institution-wide minimums, particularly for health sciences and business tracks. The English proficiency options accepted by HPU are set out below.

IELTS6.5 overall
TOEFL iBT80 (legacy scale) or 4 (new scale)
Duolingo English Test105

HPU IELTS Waiver Options for Indian Students

Indian applicants can skip a standalone English test if any of the following applies. Confirm your specific route with the international admissions office before submission.

  • SAT English section score of 500 or above.
  • ACT English subscore of 20 or above.
  • IB Higher Level or AP English score of 4 or above.
  • INTERLINK conditional English admission: Applicants below the English floor can join a partner English pathway on campus and matriculate on completion.

High Point University Graduate Programs and English Scores

HPU offers 18 graduate programs across business, communication, education, and health sciences, taught on the main campus in North Carolina. Graduate tuition is charged per credit rather than per year — USD 1,510 per credit (around INR 1.44 Lakhs) for business and health sciences tracks, and USD 982 per credit (around INR 93,781) for education and select medical education tracks. See the official graduate fee schedule for the total credit load per program.

MBA Application Rounds and Rolling Review

HPU MBA admissions operate on a rolling basis for Fall 2027 entry, with applications opened on 1 August 2026 and reviewed as they arrive. Priority review windows close in February 2027, with final decisions rolling through summer 2027. Interviews may be requested by the admissions committee once the application is complete, usually over video call for international applicants.

High Point University Application Process

Indian applicants submit through HPU’s own international admissions portal. The process is document-heavy but has no application fee, which lets applicants apply cleanly without payment friction. Decisions arrive between three and six weeks after a complete application is received.

  1. Create your HPU application account on the international admissions portal at highpoint.edu international admissions.
  2. Submit the application form with academic history, program choice, and essay responses — no application fee is charged for direct HPU applications.
  3. Upload academic transcripts — Class X, Class XII, and Bachelor’s degree marksheets in English translation.
  4. Send English test scores officially via IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, or an accepted alternative.
  5. Submit essays and recommendations — one personal essay plus one or two teacher or counsellor letters.
  6. Financial documentation — a bank statement or affidavit showing at least one year of estimated costs (about USD 80,686 or INR 77.05 Lakhs).
  7. Wait for the decision letter — timing follows the round applied to; RD applicants hear by 1 March 2027.
  8. Accept the offer and pay the USD 500 (around INR 47,750) enrolment deposit to secure your seat.

HPU Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline

Once you accept, HPU issues the Form I-20 for F-1 visa processing. Deferrals up to one academic year are possible on written request. Offers can be conditional on final Class XII results or English score improvement — the INTERLINK pathway covers most English shortfalls.

High Point University Documents Required

Prepare the following paperwork in advance and keep certified English translations ready. HPU accepts uploaded scans through the international portal, with originals verified on arrival.

  • Valid passport: Bio-data page scan with at least six months validity beyond intended entry.
  • Class X and Class XII certificates: Official transcripts with year-wise mark sheets.
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate and transcripts: Only for PG applicants; certified copies with grading scale explanation.
  • English test score report: Sent officially by the testing body to HPU.
  • Personal statement or essay: One personal essay describing goals and fit with HPU (around 500 to 650 words).
  • Letters of recommendation: One from a teacher or school counsellor for UG; two academic or professional for PG.
  • Curriculum vitae: Required for PG and MBA applicants, covering academics, projects, and work experience.
  • Financial affidavit: Bank statement or sponsor letter showing at least USD 80,686 (around INR 77.05 Lakhs) available.
  • Passport-size photographs: Recent, meeting US visa specifications.
  • Work experience letters: Optional for UG; expected for MBA applicants with prior employment.

High Point University Acceptance Rate

HPU is access oriented, meaning it admits most applicants who meet its stated requirements. The university does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate, but publicly available data suggests admissions run at around 75 percent, based on undergraduate intake trends. This makes HPU one of the more attainable options in North Carolina for Indian students with a solid Class XII record.

What Drives HPU’s High Acceptance Rate

HPU has grown enrolment year on year — the 2026 total student body of 6,550 is up from 6,335 the year before, a 3.4 percent growth. Sustained capacity expansion, combined with holistic review, keeps admissions open to a wide applicant pool rather than narrowing to a single metric like SAT band.

Why HPU’s Ranking Matters More Than Its Rate

The rate alone understates HPU’s academic profile. HPU has held the US News #1 Regional College South rank for 14 consecutive years, alongside top spots for undergraduate teaching and innovation. See the full ranking band and subject positions for context on what an HPU admit signals.

Insider note: A 75 percent rate does not mean admission is automatic. HPU still weighs essays, English scores, and financial evidence, and international applicants are reviewed for visa-readiness alongside academics.

USA F-1 Visa Process for High Point University Students

Once HPU issues your Form I-20, you can apply for the F-1 student visa at your nearest US consulate in India. The full process typically takes four to eight weeks from I-20 receipt to visa stamp, depending on interview slot availability at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, or Hyderabad.

Start by paying the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (around INR 33,425) and completing the DS-160 non-immigrant visa application online. Next, pay the visa application fee of USD 185 (around INR 17,668) and book your interview slot through the USTravelDocs portal. Carry your passport, DS-160 confirmation, I-20, admission letter, financial documents (bank statements, sponsor letters, loan sanction), and academic transcripts to the interview. Post-arrival, register with HPU’s Office of International Programs within the first week to activate your SEVIS record and confirm F-1 status.

2026 update: US consulate wait times in India remain elevated through the peak Fall application season. Book your F-1 interview slot as soon as the I-20 arrives to avoid missing the August intake.

Tips and Checklist for High Point University Admissions

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at High Point University. They cover sequencing and preparation, not the paperwork list itself, which is in the Documents section.

  • Apply Early Action by 15 November 2026 to lock in the strongest merit scholarship consideration, ahead of the 15 November priority scholarship deadline.
  • Take IELTS or TOEFL by mid-October 2026 so official scores reach HPU before your chosen deadline round.
  • Request Class X, XII, and Bachelor’s transcripts from your board or university at least eight weeks before your application round closes.
  • Draft your personal essay by early October and have a teacher review it before submission — HPU weighs essays heavily under holistic review.
  • Line up recommenders in September 2026 so they have four to six weeks to submit letters through the portal.
  • Prepare financial documentation early — sponsor bank statements, education loan sanction letters, and any income proof needed to show USD 80,686 (around INR 77.05 Lakhs) for the first year.
  • Book the F-1 visa interview slot the same week your I-20 arrives to avoid summer 2027 backlog at Indian consulates.
  • Pay the USD 500 enrolment deposit within two weeks of accepting the offer to hold your seat.

High Point University combines a 75 percent acceptance rate with a #1 Regional College South rank and a no-application-fee route through its own portal — making it a strong Fall 2027 target for Indian applicants who prepare English scores and financial documents by October 2026.

Overview

I love the 96% placement rate after graduation and how much the professors and all faculty care for every one of the students. I also love the campus and its beauty. The president has such an impact on every student and teaches a class for freshmen which is not popular for any other college. It just sets it apart so much.

Scholarship

Yes. I applied for scholarships and received some money in scholarships and also financial aid. You must fill out FAFSA to qualify for federal financial aid.
