IIM Calcutta has released its final placement report for its various courses such as MBA, MBAEx and PGPEx-VLM. As per official placement report released by the institute, the highest package for its MBA course is INR 1.45 Crore per annum, and average package stood at INR 34.23 LPA in 2025. The highest package for its MBAEx stood at INR 1.25 Crore per annum, and the average package stood at INR 35.37 LPA in 2025. For the PGPEx-VLM course offered at IIM Calcutta, the highest package stood at INR 52 LPA, and average package stood at INR 26.37 LPA in 2024.

A total of 535+ job offers were given to 456 students of MBA (2023-25). The placements drive included companies divided in 3 clusters.

Cluster 1 saw participation of 68 firms offering 301 job offers to students, which includes companies from Consulting Domain.
Cluster 2 consisted of cohorts such as Cloud Services, Software, Fintech, Conglomerate, E-Com, FMCG, etc. with 84 firms offering 175 job offers.

Placement: Their is a very systematic placement process; There is a prep team to help us make our CV, prep for various sectors and do GD-PI prep and the placement days are really well structured too

Placement Experience:

Summer internships take place in the 2nd trimester and the final placements take place between the 5th and 6th trimester. The college has 100% placements - all students get placed through the official placements. Around 30-40% get a PPO in the summer and the remaining get placed during the final placements. Companies come in all sectors including finance, consulting, marketing, general management and operations. Around 25% of the batch gets placed in consulting companies - top tier firms including consulting: Mckinsey, Bain, BCG; Finance: BoFA, HSBC, Barclays; Marketing: P&G, HUL, Gen Management: TAS, ABG come to campus. The highest package is around 1 crore and the average package is around 28-30 Lakhs Apart from IIM A we are the only college to provide a dream policy - under which people can sit for companies even after receiving a PPO because of which there were around 500+ offers were made for a batch of 480 students

Everyone gets placed. All top consulting firms recruit in heavy numbers (MBBK, A&M, Accenture, ADL, Big 4, Boutique firms, etc.). Finance offers a wide variety of jobs and firms with the best firms like BoFa and JPMC also recruiting at obscenely high salaries. Top PEVC firms like A91 also come for recruitment. Marketing and Product Management also have all the top companies present (HUL, P&G, Reckitt, Loreal, Nestle, Dabur, Microsoft, Atlassian, Media.net, etc.). General Management also sees top firms like TAS, ABG, Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv, etc. appear. Placement opportunities are aplenty and the salaries offered are the highest in India. (Avg. package 34L+).

A comprehensive look at IIM Calcutta

Placement transparency: With the concentration of power in the hands of place comm. it is very easy to feel like the placement process is not entirely fair for all. There are little to no checks for favouritism too.

Placement Experience:

Placement happens in two cycles: Summers and Laterals/Finals. Summer placements are for internships over the summer and final/lateral placements are for permanent roles after graduation with laterals for folks with considerable work experience. Placement is overseen by a placement committee comprised of 10 members from seniors in your first year and juniors in your second. The companies are split into 3 clusters and the process takes place over a week for all cycles. You can look up the figures in the placement report available online but the brief explanation is that everyone gets placed and the best firms visiting the campus tend to remain consistent.

Let’s consider the effect of graduation scores in summer and final placements separately.

Summer Placements:

During these placements, the recruiters don’t have your MBA profile to judge you. So they have to take your graduation score, past academics, and other criteria into consideration. The summer placements are largely based on what the candidate has achieved till the time he joined his/her MBA program. This is exactly why placement committees request that students utilize the time before joining the institute to improve their resumes. You can upscale yourself with work experience, your education, your extra-curricular activities, etc.

Final Placements:

During these placements, the students are almost about to complete their MBA. This means their profile has improved through various on and off-campus opportunities. These opportunities include research projects, work on industry projects, and summer internships. So now your CGPA in your MBA program and performance in these activities carry more importance than your undergraduate CGPA.

So we can say graduation scores matter in summer placements but not much in final placements.

Almost all students of both institutes IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta are placed so there isn’t much difference.
Moreover, the median packages are similar proving that the placement scenario is similar.

Every institute has its own shortcomings. If you choose IIM A/B/L or XLRI or FMS over IIM Calcutta, do you think you will not face any problems there? Besides, IIM Calcutta is among the best for a reason. Some casual claims cannot rain its reputation.

How are the placements for engineers with no work experience at the IIMs, FMS Delhi and XLRI?

The two most important factors considered by recruiters during Placements at IIM ABC/FMS/XLRI are

Brand of UG College - SRCC/Old IITs/BITS/CA

MBA scores are of much importance during Final Placements but are Not available during summer placement.

If you have passed the above criteria, you are most likely to land any job. Still, I have segregated the roles that require work experience and the roles that do not.

Here are a few possible reasons why SPJIMR placements are better than or equally good as IIMs

SPJIMR has a much smaller batch size in comparison to IIMs and thus the average rises.
SPJIMR has a very rigorous selection process that filters the best students and the recruiters are well aware of this.
SPJIMR enjoys a great location maximizing the exposure and opportunities rendered to the students.
The students perform exceptionally well in the placement interviews and thus secure high packages.

It's important to note that these reasons are just based on speculations and it cannot be exactly determined why some placements are better than others.

Does IMI Kolkata really provide 100% placement?

IMI Kolkata students are placed in reputable firms in Kolkata, where the placement rate is high. The actual placement rate, however, may change from year to year and may also rely on elements like the general state of the economy and the industries in which the students are most interested. But for the year 2021-2022, it has offered 100 percent placements in its college.

Some of the prominent participating companies were JSW, Jaro, Nivea, RBI, Deloitte, ICICI, McVitie’s among many others. Top job profiles include Sales Manager, Senior Manager, Team Leader, Tax Consultant, and Business Analyst.

While many may shed their philosophies on how getting a high package should not be your ultimate goal and stuff, I am here with a different opinion. When you are investing a huge amount of money it is only right to expect a greater monetary benefit and a better lifestyle. So I have mentioned some techniques that will help you land a package of 30 LPA specifically in the field of marketing post-MBA from IIM ABC, FMS, MDI, SPJIMR, and IIFT.

The first thing you need to do is lower your expectations as no marketing placements offer a package higher than 25 LPA. These highest offers are made by top firms like Reckitt Benckiser, HUL, P&G, and Asian Paints.
You need to figure out what you really are after, a good marketing role or a high-paying job. If you are after the latter I suggest you go for big consulting firms like Mc Kinsey, BCG, or investment banks that offer 30+ LPA.
But if it is the marketing role you are after, then make sure your resume reflects your marketing enthusiasm. This will further increase your chances of selection.
Performing well in the competitions conducted by your desired company is another way to get a high-paying job.
If the Final Placements are your last resort then make sure you have a stable and excellent CGPA. Many companies consider this factor while shortlisting.

These points will help you get your dream job but cannot necessarily guarantee it. It all ultimately depends on your efforts and obviously your luck.

IIM Calcutta does not release exact figures regarding its placement and more so for its Executive programs.

According to the in-depth study of last placement reports, the profile of PGPX students at IIM Calcutta should be:

Average work experience of around 8 years
Work experience from IT sector
Should have already been earning 30-40 LPA

This information is just based on assumptions and exceptions can take place.

How good is placement at ISB, Hyderabad compared to IIMs (since number of students are much more in ISB, leading to tough competition)?

When comparing the placements of the two, ISB and IIMs, the batch size hardly matters because both institutes market different products. The background and profiles of students of both institutes are too versatile to draw comparisons. If I roughly divide the ISB students and the kind of placement scenario they face then

90% of students get their dream jobs in the desired sector and company
10% of the students get jobs that are below their expectations but not worse enough to forgo the offers

So the batch size does not matter here and ISB Hyderabad placements are themselves quite satisfactory.

Does IIM Calcutta have 100% Placement?

Yes, IIM Calcutta has recorded 100% placement record (for the MBA batch). There were a total of 529 offers made. The highest package which was offered to one of the students- 1.2 crore per year. The highest recruitment sector was Counsulting Sector with 31.6% placements.
