CSJMU M.Sc Agronomy FAQs
Ques. Does CSJMU admit M.Sc. Ag. Agronomy students through ICAR AIEEA or on direct merit basis?
Ans. CSJMU admits students to M.Sc. Ag. Agronomy on a direct merit basis, i.e., based on the percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture degree. There is no separate entrance test conducted by CSJMU for this programme. ICAR AIEEA is a national-level exam for admission to ICAR-Deemed Universities and other agricultural universities; qualifying it is not mandatory for CSJMU admission, but students may appear in it for JRF fellowships or for admission to other institutions.
Ques. What is the minimum percentage required for M.Sc. Ag. Agronomy admission at CSJMU, and is there any relaxation for reserved category students?
Ans. The minimum eligibility is 60% aggregate marks in B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture or B.Sc. Agriculture from a recognised university. A relaxation of 5% is provided for SC/ST and differently-abled students, bringing their minimum requirement to 55%. Candidates who have appeared in their final year examination may apply provisionally, but admission is confirmed only after submission of final marksheets showing the required percentage.
Ques. What research and practical exposure does the M.Sc. Ag. Agronomy programme at CSJMU offer?
Ans. CSJMU's SAAST has active MoUs with ICAR-ATARI Kanpur, IIT Kanpur, CSAUA&T Kanpur, and ICAR-IIPR Kanpur, giving students access to advanced research infrastructure. The curriculum includes field trials, laboratory experiments, and exposure to modern technologies like drones, precision farming, and AI in agriculture. Students also participate in national and international conferences, expert talks, and visits to agricultural research organisations, providing strong practical and research grounding.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for M.Sc. Ag. Agronomy students at CSJMU?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at CSJMU is not guaranteed and is subject to seat availability. The university has 6 on-campus hostels (2 boys, 4 girls) with a combined capacity of 1,114 seats. Students need to apply separately for hostel allotment through the Samarth portal (csjmu.samarth.edu.in). Room allotment is finalised by the respective wardens. Hostel fees range from approximately Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 33,000 per year for boys and Rs. 17,000 onwards for girls, with separate mess charges of approximately Rs. 20,000 per year.
Ques. What are the career prospects after completing M.Sc. Ag. Agronomy from CSJMU?
Ans. Graduates of M.Sc. Ag. Agronomy from CSJMU can pursue careers as agronomists, crop scientists, soil scientists, agricultural officers, and research associates in government departments (like ICAR, state agriculture departments, NABARD), private agri-input companies, seed companies, fertiliser firms, and NGOs. They are also eligible for teaching positions in agricultural colleges after qualifying NET/SLET. Many graduates pursue Ph.D. programmes at ICAR institutes, state agricultural universities, or central universities. The growing demand for precision agriculture and sustainable farming practices has significantly expanded career opportunities in this field.
Ques. Can a student with a 3-year B.Sc. Agriculture degree (non-honours) apply for M.Sc. Ag. Agronomy at CSJMU?
Ans. As per CSJMU's official eligibility criteria, the requirement is B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture or B.Sc. Agriculture with a minimum of 60% marks. Students with a 3-year B.Sc. Agriculture degree from a recognised university are generally eligible to apply. However, ICAR norms for PG admission typically require a 4-year B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture degree. Candidates with a 3-year degree are advised to confirm their eligibility directly with the SAAST department (Contact: Mr. Abhishek Dwivedi, 7348308031) before applying, as admission is subject to the university's interpretation of eligibility at the time of counselling.
