Ques. Is UGC NET mandatory for Ph.D. admission in Nepali at BHU?
Ans. Yes, UGC NET qualification is mandatory. Candidates with JRF can apply under the RET-Exempted mode (interview only, 100% weightage). Candidates who have qualified for Assistant Professorship (without JRF) or have appeared in NET can apply under RET mode (70% NET percentile + 30% interview). Without any NET qualification, you cannot apply for BHU Ph.D. in Nepali.
Ques. How many seats are available for Ph.D. in Nepali at BHU?
Ans. As per the BHU Ph.D. Information Bulletin 2024-25, there are 2 seats under RET mode and 2 seats under RET-Exempted mode, totaling approximately 4 seats per academic session. Seats are further distributed as per reservation roster (General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS, PwBD). The actual number of seats may vary slightly each year based on faculty availability.

Ans. Yes. Marathi, Philosophy, Tamil, Telugu, and Japanese are listed as allied disciplines for Ph.D. in Nepali at BHU. However, allied discipline seats are limited to a maximum of 20% of total vacancies in the main discipline. You must qualify UGC NET in your relevant subject and meet the 55% marks criterion in your qualifying examination.
