Ques. Is M.Sc. Agronomy at BHU recognised by ICAR, and can students apply for ICAR-JRF while enrolled?
Ans. Yes. BHU's Institute of Agricultural Sciences is one of the premier ICAR-recognised institutions in India. Students enrolled in M.Sc. (Agriculture) Agronomy at BHU are eligible to appear for the ICAR-JRF examination. If they qualify, they can receive the ICAR-JRF fellowship of Rs. 31,000 per month during their M.Sc. programme.
Ques. What is the difference between regular seats and paid seats in M.Sc. Agronomy at BHU?
Ans. Regular seats have a fee of Rs. 12,500 per semester (Rs. 50,000 total), while paid seats have a fee of Rs. 42,500 per semester (Rs. 1,70,000 total). Both categories follow the same academic curriculum and are taught by the same faculty. Paid seats are supernumerary seats available for candidates who do not get regular seats but wish to pursue the programme. Reservation norms apply to paid seats as well.

Ans. No. As per the BHU PG Bulletin 2026, candidates with a B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture degree are eligible for most M.Sc. (Agriculture) disciplines at BHU, but specifically NOT for M.Sc. (Agriculture) Agronomy. Only candidates with a 4-year B.Sc. (Agriculture) or B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture degree are eligible for Agronomy.

Ans. Graduates can pursue careers in ICAR research institutes as scientists, state agricultural universities as faculty, government agricultural departments as agricultural officers, and private agribusiness companies. They can also appear for ASRB NET examination for lecturer/scientist positions, UPSC for Indian Agricultural Service, and state PSC examinations for agricultural extension officer posts. Many graduates also pursue Ph.D. programmes in Agronomy.
