Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, offers the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) (Hons.) as a full-time, on-campus undergraduate programme under the Faculty of Commerce. Under the NEP 2020 framework, the course is a 4-year programme (8 semesters), covering core subjects like Financial Accounting, Business Law, Income Tax, Cost Accounting, Company Law, and Financial Management. The annual tuition fee for regular seats at the Main Campus (FMC) is approximately Rs. 2,300 per year, making it one of the most affordable B.Com programmes at a central university in India. The course has a total seat intake of 819 seats across all BHU-affiliated locations (FMC: 286, AMPG: 96, DAV PG: 227, VCW: 96, RGSC: 114). BHU's CAP (UG) registration for counselling is expected to open in July 2026, with seat allotment rounds in August 2026. The CUET UG 2026 exam is scheduled from May 11 to May 31, 2026, with results expected tentatively in early July 2026.

BHU B.Com (Hons.) FAQs

Ques. Is BHU B.Com (Hons.) a 3-year or 4-year course now?

Ans. Under the NEP 2020 framework, BHU B.Com (Hons.) is now a 4-year programme (8 semesters). However, students have the flexibility to exit after completing 3 years with a B.Com degree (without Honours). Completing all 4 years awards the B.Com (Hons.) degree, and students who undertake a research project in the 4th year receive B.Com (Hons. with Research).

Ques. What CUET subjects do I need to appear for to get admission to BHU B.Com (Hons.)?

Ans. For BHU B.Com (Hons.), you need to appear in the CUET UG exam with Commerce/Accountancy as the domain subject. Candidates from a non-commerce background (e.g., PCM) can also apply, but must check BHU's specific subject eligibility criteria in the official Information Bulletin before applying.

Ques. What is the difference between BHU B.Com (Hons.) at FMC and at affiliated colleges like DAV PG or AMPG?

Ans. The Main Campus (FMC) is the most prestigious location with the lowest fees (Rs. 2,300/year for regular seats). AMPG and VCW are women-only colleges. DAV PG College is co-educational and charges Rs. 10,322/year. The curriculum and degree are the same across all locations, but campus facilities, faculty, and peer environment differ. FMC is generally preferred.

Ques. Does BHU B.Com (Hons.) have dedicated campus placements?

Ans. BHU does not have a dedicated placement cell exclusively for B.Com (Hons.) students. Placements are largely self-driven, and most B.Com graduates pursue CA, MBA, or government competitive exams (like SSC CGL, banking) rather than campus placements. Some students do get placed through the university's general placement drives, but exclusive B.Com placement data is not published separately.

Ques. Can I pursue CA alongside BHU B.Com (Hons.)?

Ans. Yes, many BHU B.Com (Hons.) students simultaneously pursue CA (Chartered Accountancy) from ICAI. The course structure and subjects are well-aligned with CA Foundation and Intermediate syllabi. BHU's flexible academic environment and affordable fees make it a popular choice for CA aspirants.

Ques. What is the hostel situation for B.Com students at BHU?

Ans. Male B.Com students at BHU's Main Campus are allotted the I.N. Gurtu Hostel (Commerce faculty hostel). Hostel fee is Rs. 4,875 per semester (approximately Rs. 9,750 per year), excluding mess charges. Hostel allotment is not guaranteed and is done on a merit-cum-availability basis. Female students at FMC can apply for hostels under the Multi-Faculty category.

The Campus has just enough facilities for captivating it's students carreer oriented activities such as hostel, mess, library, cyber library and the overall environment of campus. Being the religious capital Banaras gives very positive energies to students preparing for competitions. The placement cell is very active and does all that is required for giving best job opportunities to its passouts The university is the largest residential university in Asia, so hostel Life is going to be very memorable. Cultural fests and competitive competitions are regularly being organised for better crowd exposure for the students. Being all the positives, an admission seeker must keep in mind the traffic, high competition in hostel allotment, high rental charges outside the campus and lack of campus privacy and security due to Hospitals and pilgrimage sites attracting an ample amount of outsiders enough to disturb the campus's environment.
