Aspirants seeking admission to the Program should meet the following criteria as specified by the institute:

• Candidate must have passed Post Graduation or equivalent  from a recognised University.

Alagappa University offers the course of PhD. There are three categories of PhD scholars which are Full Time Research Scholars, Part Time Research Scholars and Independent Research Scholars. 

The Departmental Research Committee which comprises all eligible guides of the Department under the chair of the Head of the Department, with appropriate support from the office of Dean, Research is responsible for conducting pre registration PhD programme entrance examination work, admission and registration of candidates.

Alagappa University Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

• Full Time,The candidate must have a postgraduate degree in the relevant discipline with a score of at least 55% marks.
• For SC/ ST/ Physically or visually challenged candidates/ OBC candidates, at least 50% marks are required.
• For Part Time research, the candidate must have two years of continuous Teaching / Research / Professional experience and can be any teacher employed in a Government recognized school with a Postgraduate Degree of this University / any other University / Institution / recognized by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto with at least two years of continuous teaching experience.
• For Independent Time research, The candidate must have minimum 10 years of teaching experience at UG/PG level with at least 5 publications in professionally recognized journals in the case of teachers in Colleges/University Departments. OR
• The candidate must have minimum 10 years of research experience and at least 5 publications in professionally recognized journals in the case of Scientists / Researchers working in Regional / National laboratories / Institutes / Industrial establishments. 
• Foreign students can apply for a full-time Ph.D. program as per the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India norms. 

Alagappa University Ph.D. Admission Guidelines

In order to apply for PhD admissions at Alagappa University, candidates are supposed to appear for Entrance Examination in the relevant discipline which shall be followed by a Personal interview.

How to Apply? 

• In the case of Full time / Part time candidates: Those who are eligible as per the norms should apply to the Dean Research for registration in the prescribed application form through the Research Supervisor. In the case of Independent candidates, the application must be done through the Head of the Department / Officiating Department of the University.
• The application must be forwarded through the proper channel as stated. (i) The Principal of the Affiliated College or Head of the Collaborative Institution of Approved Research Centres of the University in the case of candidates registering through Approved Research Centres or (ii) the Head of the Department / the officiating Department of the University or Principal of the Constituent College in the case of all other candidates including Independent candidates.
• The candidate must pay the prescribed fee through Demand Draft drawn on any nationalized / scheduled Commercial Bank payable at Karaikudi in favour of The Registrar, Alagappa University.

1. The design of the proposed research work with the signed approval of the Research Supervisor and Co-Supervisor, if any, and with the signature of the candidate.
2.  Original Post Graduate degree and Mark / Grade statements.
3.  Original M.Phil. degree and marks statements ( if applicable).
4.  Original Service-cum-No Objection Certificate, if employed.
5. Attested photo copies of TC for Age proof and Community Certificate for record.
6. Certificate of eligibility for those who have qualified Pre-Registration Ph.D. Programme Entrance Examination of Alagappa University / Copy of NET/SET/GATE Certificate / Proof of Foreign Nationality for candidates / Proof of NRI status for candidates.

Alagappa University Ph.D. Entrance Examination and Programmes

Candidates seeking admission to Ph.D. programmes must clear the Pre-Registration Qualifying Entrance Examination for Ph.D. Programme. The written examination shall be of 3 hours. 

Candidates who have already qualified NET(JRF as well as Lectureship)/SET or GATE can directly apply for Ph.D. program after satisfying the eligibility criteria.
