TISS Ph.D. (Women Studies) Admission 2026
Current Admission Status:
Admissions for the 2026-27 academic year have been completed (last date was January 5, 2027). The next admission cycle for 2027-28 will be announced in December 2027. Interested candidates must clear UGC-NET in one of three categories: Category 1 (with JRF), Category 2 (without JRF but eligible for Assistant Professor position), or Category 3 (admission to Ph.D. only). The program follows a rolling admission process based on merit and UGC-NET scores.

Eligibility Criteria
- Master's degree in any discipline with minimum 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD candidates).
- Candidates with 4-year bachelor's degree must have minimum 75% marks.
- Valid UGC-NET certificate in any subject (not older than 3 years for JRF, 1 year for non-JRF categories).
Admission Process
- UGC-NET examination in any subject
- Short-listing of candidates in 1:5 ratio based on NET score and reservation norms
- Online Personal Interview (OPI)
- Submission of research proposal/concept note (minimum 2000 words)
- Merit-based selection combining NET score and interview performance
- Document verification and admission confirmation
Curriculum:
Ph.D. coursework includes minimum 12 credits covering research methodology (qualitative and quantitative), research and publication ethics, and specialized courses in women's studies. Coursework is offered in offline classroom mode during first and second semesters. Scholars must obtain minimum 55% marks in coursework to continue. Research areas include violence against women, women and development, women in academia, decolonization, women and migration, women entrepreneurship, femicide, feminist critique of family and society, caste and gender, violence against marginalized women, science and technology studies, and gender and health.
