Student Snaps:

Faculty:

The faculty-to-student ratio is 13:20 which is pretty good for a new branch. The faculty to student relationship is really good with some of the faculties. Most of them are easily approachable and interactive. One of the faculty who is liked by almost all students including me is "Dr. Bhargav Vaidya" who is also my faculty advisor. He is not much strict, understands student's issues , teaches really well , has good amount of knowledge and is friendly with students. He is the type of professor we all need (students). The other faculties are Dr. Prakash Gaikwad, Dr. Suman Majumdar, Dr. Priyanka Singh and Dr. Abhirup Dutta , they are also one of the best faculties. The most disliked faculty according to me and my whole class is Dr. Soumavo Ghosh as he is kind of strict, gives assignments every week, takes surprise quizzes, does not interact properly with students and is very short tempered. His teaching skills are also not good. Rest of the faculties are okay. Now talking about the exams, there are mainly 2 exams, mid semester and end semester. Between them there are quizzes, assignments and practical exams. The difficulty of exam depends on the professor.

faculty to student ratio is also ample its 4:1, most of the times faculties are available for student concerns, doubts, etc. they are supporting in nature. I like one faculty who teaches power elecrtronics, really great prof. the efforts he makes to let B.Tech fellows learn things properly. exams are quite challenging depending upon the faculties and also their moods. most of the time one can solve the most part of the paper provided he studied, but no worries as relative grading hides that all.

Faculty:

Faculty to student ratio is great in my branch. It is around 2:5. Faculty student realtionships are great. Any student can approach any faculty to discuss some queries or contribute to his/her research areas. Student get to learn a lot from projects done under faculties. Some of the best professor in our college is Prof. Dr. Kapil Ahuja. His teaching philosophy is inspirational. There are several faculties which I hate but they are mostly from another departments, they should show some more care towards children in terms of grading. There are two major exams per semester and two minor which are referred to QUIZ. There are mid-semester and end-semester examinations, whose difficulty depends solely on the professor. Some are extremely difficult and some are very easy. In my branch, exams are fairly easy and are good judge of knowledge. In every course, number of students who fail the exams depends only on the professor, but on an average, 1-2 students fail in a course. Course curriculum is extremely relevant and in accordance with the industry standards. While it may feel some courses in first year are a waste of time but those are in best interest of an Engineer.

The institute boasts of a very healthy faculty to student ratio. Even though the student strength was smaller in our batch, this ratio is quite better even today (with a higher student population) than other similar colleges. This ratio stood at 1:30 i.e. one teacher for every 30 students (on an average). The faculty members are also quite approachable and helpful if the students wish to take their advice on any aspect. I have vivid memories with Prof. I.A. Palani with whom I completed my year-end B.Tech. project for which I had earned accolades. Another professor with whom I worked on several co-curricular initiatives was Prof. Santosh Kumar Vishvakarma, and I learnt a lot from him during my formative years. Every subject or course in a single semester has two sets of exams i.e. mid-semester and end-semester. These hold high weightage and students are graded on their performance across these exams. Lab examinations are also held for specific courses with practical sessions held beforehand. These exams require proper preparation and students work hard to make sure they score well in these exams. While majority students pass the exams, and many so with flying colors, there are a very few number of students who end up failing in the exam (1 or 2) from the entire batch.

How is the MS for Computer Science at IIT Indore (faculty, placements, infrastructure, etc.)?

Darshan SethiIIT Indore

MS by Research in Computer Science and Engineering is a 2-year full-time PG engineering program offered by IIT Indore. The MS in Computer Science at IIT Indore is a great option if you are a research enthusiast and are willing to pursue a career in the same.

The faculty does not matter much as you will be dealing with them only during the first-semester post which you will have been assigned a professor under whom you will be doing your research work.

Placements-wise not much can be said as it’s a recently launched program and it will take a few more years to make its mark. However, the opportunities seem to be very promising.

The infrastructure is great although the campus is still undergoing development so you can expect better infrastructure in the future.

Overall, the MS in Computer Science from IIT Indore is a great option for research lovers.
