VTU: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 89 Reviews

Applicants who have completed their pre-university exams are eligible to apply for the Common Entrance Test (CET). Upon passing, students receive ranks that determine their eligibility for college counseling and selection of preferred colleges and branches. Admissions typically occur in September. The college boasts a well-qualified faculty, with many holding M.Tech and some possessing Ph.D. degrees, maintaining a student-to-faculty ratio of about 20:1. Faculty members are approachable and supportive, often mentoring students and aiding in securing internships and placements.

The examination system includes 8 exams per semester, with internal and external assessments contributing equally to grades. Students become eligible for placements from the 5th or 6th semester, with over 100 companies visiting the campus. Notable recruiters include Infosys, TCS, Wipro, and Accenture, offering packages between 6 to 47 lakhs per annum, with an average package around 4 to 5 lakhs. Placement rates range between 40% to 75%. The college’s fee structure ranges from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 1,97,000 annually for general students, with management seats up to Rs. 4,00,000.

Hostel fees range from Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 1,50,000 per year. Scholarships are available, especially for SC/ST students, covering up to 100% of tuition fees. General students can receive fee reductions from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 70,000 through scholarships like SSP and NSP. The Karnataka government offers scholarships like Vidyasiri, providing around Rs. 18,000 annually. SNQ quota students may pay as low as Rs. 38,000. Despite placement challenges, the college supports students with financial aid and guidance for scholarship applications.

Additional fees include registration, exam, and other mandatory charges.

VTU: 1 Answered Question

What are the best books for the 1st semester CSE at VTU?

Raunak GuptaBE Mechanical Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University (2016)

You don't start the CSE syllabus right away in the first year. Math, electronics core topics, English, and other subjects are common. You should read the foreign writers suggested for applied math and sciences. Foreign books usually go into great detail about a topic and are of far higher quality than local publications. I would advise you to use them for your preparation.

Here are some of the recommended books.

For chemistry cycle-

  • Math 1 - Chandrashekhar
  • Chemistry - BS Jaiprakash
  • CCP - Padma Reddy
  • Caed - K R Gopalkrishna
  • Basic Electronics - Godse and Bakshi

For Physics Cycle-

  • Math 2 - Chandrashekhar
  • Physics - SP Basavaraju
  • Civil - Bhavikatti
  • Mechanical - KR Gopalkrishna
  • Basic Electrical - MV Rao

For CPP, your college will help you out with the notes. These are the authors that you can refer to during your 1st year. There is no need to refer to any books for EVS.
