IIM Bangalore PGPM FAQs

Ques. Is the PGPM at IIM Bangalore the same as an MBA? What degree is awarded?

Ans. Yes, the PGPM (Post Graduate Programme in Management) at IIM Bangalore leads to the award of a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. IIM Bangalore is one of the few IIMs that awards a full MBA degree (as opposed to a Post Graduate Diploma in Management at some other IIMs). This makes the degree equivalent to any MBA from a global business school and is recognized internationally.

Ques. What is the minimum CAT percentile required to get a call from IIM Bangalore for PGP 2026-28?

Ans. For the 2026-28 batch, the minimum CAT 2025 percentile cut-offs for the first shortlist are: General category - 85 overall (80 VARC, 75 DILR, 75 QA); NC-OBC/EWS - 75 overall; SC - 70 overall; ST - 65 overall; PwD - 60 overall. However, these are minimum cut-offs for the first shortlist only. The actual scores of candidates called for interviews are significantly higher. A strong overall profile (academics, work experience, gender diversity) also plays a role in the pre-PI composite score.

Ques. Is work experience mandatory for IIM Bangalore PGP admission?

Ans. No, work experience is not mandatory. Fresh graduates can and do get admitted. However, work experience carries a weightage of 10 points in the pre-PI score and up to 10 points in the post-PI score (with quality assessed during the interview). The 2025 batch had 81 students with no work experience out of 544 total students, so fresh graduates do get in but the majority of the batch has some work experience.

Ques. What is the hostel situation at IIM Bangalore? Is accommodation guaranteed?

Ans. Accommodation on campus is provided for all PGP students in Year 1 and is included in the programme fee of Rs. 26,00,000. In Year 2, students may choose to live off-campus by making their own arrangements. The campus is fully residential with modern hostel facilities, and the fee covers room rent and service charges.

Ques. How does the WAT-PI process work at IIM Bangalore? What should I prepare?

Ans. The WAT (Written Ability Test) and PI (Personal Interview) are conducted on the same day at the same location. The WAT is approximately 30 minutes long and tests your ability to write a structured note on a given topic - it is evaluated on content quality, clarity of thought, logical structure, and writing style. The PI panel assesses academics, work experience, personality, and career goals. Work experience quality is specifically evaluated on a 5-point scale by each panel member. Together, WAT (10 points) and PI (40 points) account for 50% of the final selection score, making thorough preparation essential.

Ques. What are the loan and EMI options available for funding the IIM Bangalore PGP?

Ans. IIM Bangalore has tie-ups with leading banks and NBFCs for education loans. Most major banks (SBI, HDFC, Axis, ICICI, etc.) offer education loans for IIM programmes without collateral up to Rs. 40-50 lakhs, given the strong placement record. The loan typically covers the full programme fee and living expenses. Given the median placement salary of Rs. 32.61 LPA, the return on investment is strong, and most students are able to repay their loans within 2-3 years of graduation.
