Bangalore University Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria
- Ph.D. Applicants should hold a post-graduation degree from a UGC-recognized university or either a professional degree declared equivalent to the post-graduation degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body or a foreign degree accredited by an authorized Assessment and Accreditation Agency.
- They should have scored a minimum aggregate of 55% or an equivalent grade in the qualifying examination. Reserved category candidates are allowed a maximum relaxation of 5% of marks, up to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade.
- Applicants should bear in mind that the university will not allow any further relaxation in minimum percentage under any circumstance even if the seats remain vacant.
- Candidates who hold a regular Degree equivalent to M.Phil. from either an Indian or an accredited foreign institution will also be considered eligible to apply.
- However, the decision of the Registrar (Evaluation) shall be final regarding the equivalence of degrees.
- Candidates who have completed M.Phil.(Regular) course work with at least 55% aggregate score or equivalent grade (maximum relaxation of up to 50% for reserved category candidates), will be considered eligible to pursue research-work leading to Ph.D. Degree.

- Full-time Ph.D. candidates need to submit an undertaking stating that they will not get engaged in any employment during the course of the program.

Bangalore University Ph.D. Admission Selection Process
Bangalore University prepares a consolidated Merit List on the basis of the Ph.D. Entrance Test scores. Candidates who score a minimum of 50% in the test find place in the list.
The final selection decision is made equally considering the entrance test score and percentage obtained in the qualifying exam.
A separate Merit List is prepared of non-entrance candidates who have qualified the UGC/CSIR: JRF Test/ NET/ KSET/ SLET/ GATE/ Young Researchers Recognized by DST, UGC, CSIR, AICTE, INSPIRE, etc., / M. Phil. Degree candidates with course work/ teachers on QIP/ foreign candidates, in that order, based on their qualifying examination marks secured.
- Candidates who feature in the consolidated merit list are invited for a counseling round with the RAC at the University.
- The RAC is responsible for allocating accepted candidates to research supervisors following a roster system.
- The RAC sends the list of selected candidates to the Registrar (Evaluation), post allocation, along with relevant documents for verification and approval.
- The University issues a Provisional Registration Memo to selected candidates who make the requisite fee payment.
- Upon receipt of the Provisional Registration Memo, the candidates need to submit tentative research proposal to the Registrar (Evaluation), through their respective University PG Department/ constituent college/ recognized research centers and assigned research supervisor.
Seat Allocation Policy of Bangalore University follows the rules listed below:
- Seats for admission are allocated equally to the Entrance and non-Entrance category candidates. Vacant seats, if any, are however, transferable mutually.
- Admissions are offered strictly on the basis of the ranks that the candidates secure in the consolidated merit list, irrespective of the specialization of the research supervisor.
- Where more than one candidate secures the same ranking in the entrance test, then the qualifying examination marks is taken into consideration.

Bangalore University Ph.D. Admission Cut Off
Candidates who secure less than 50% in the test will not be considered eligible to be included in the consolidated merit list published by the university under any circumstances. So, effectively, the cut-off score for Ph.D. admission at Bangalore University is 50% score out of a total score of 100 in the entrance test.
Bangalore University Ph.D. Entrance Exam
Barring CSIR NET/ UGC NET/ SLET/ KSET/ GATE/ JRF qualified candidates or candidates holding an accredited M. Phil degree, all Ph.D. applicants are required to appear for an entrance test conducted by Bangalore University.
- In order to qualify the test, candidates need to score at least 50% out of 100. The maximum Marks for the entrance is 100.
- The Ph.D. Entrance Test will pose Multiple Choice Type Questions of 2 Marks Each, comprising Research Methodology and subject-specific topics, to be completed in 120 minutes.
- External experts will be preparing two sets of question papers for the entrance.
- The Entrance Test will be conducted at the specific test centers, as notified in advance by the University.
Please note that, the candidates who opt for inter-disciplinary research topics have to mandatorily appear for the entrance test in the concerned Department where they have applied.

Bangalore University follows a reservation policy for the different reserved category candidates like Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribes as prescribed by the Central/ State government from time to time. As per the provisional vacancy list released in 2019 by Bangalore University for Ph.D. Admissions in various departments, of the total intake the following percentage of can be calculated as reserved for specific categories.

The application deadline for 2 years LLM Course at Bangalore University for the Academic Year 2023-24 was 25 July 2023.
Unfortunately, you need to have passed only B.Sc with relevant discipline to be eligible for M.Sc Maths course and not B.tech.
Bangalore University does not offer admission to Ph.D programs based on the merit of the qualifying examination passed.
