JMI Ph.D. (Nanotechnology) Admission 2026
Admission to the Ph.D. (Nanotechnology) at JMI is a competitive, multi-stage process involving an entrance test (or exemption for NET/GATE holders), research proposal submission, and an interview before the Centre Research Committee (CRC). The 2026-27 admission cycle is now closed; the 2027-28 PhD admission schedule will be announced separately by JMI, typically around October. For reference, the 2026-27 schedule is provided below.

Note: CSIR-NET (Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Earth Sciences) and UGC-NET qualified candidates are exempted from the JMI PhD Entrance Test. GATE qualified candidates (in relevant engineering/science disciplines) are also exempted.

Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must have a Master's degree with a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent CGPA) in Nanotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Biotechnology, or allied subjects from a recognised university.
- SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled candidates are eligible with a relaxation of 5% (i.e., 50% marks).
- Candidates with a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's degree with at least 75% marks (70% for reserved categories) are also eligible for direct PhD admission.
- Candidates with an M.Phil. degree (55% marks) in the relevant subject from a recognised university are also eligible.
Admission Process
- Apply online at admission.jmi.ac.in and pay the application fee of Rs. 2,000/-.
- Appear for the JMI PhD Entrance Test (Paper I: Research Methodology; Paper II: Subject-specific) OR submit proof of UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/GATE qualification for exemption.
- Shortlisted candidates must submit a detailed Research Proposal to the Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.
- Attend the Interview/Presentation before the Centre Research Committee (CRC) to discuss research interests and proposal.
- Final selection is based on entrance test performance, research proposal quality, and interview.
- Complete admission formalities (document verification, fee payment) within the stipulated dates.
