JMI BA LLB 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Before you appear for the JMI BA LLB 2026 exam, you must meet the eligibility criteria set by Jamia Millia Islamia. If you do not meet these conditions, your admission can be cancelled even after the exam.

Academic Qualification

Last-Minute Strategy: Section-Wise Plan

Legal Aptitude (40 Marks — Highest Priority)

This section carries the most marks. In the last 6 days, focus on:

• Revise the most common Latin legal maxims — at least 20 to 25 of them. Know what each one means and how it is applied.
• Read 2 to 3 previous year JMI BA LLB papers specifically for Legal Aptitude. Understand the pattern of how legal principles are stated and applied.
• Focus on constitutional law basics — fundamental rights (Articles 12 to 35), directive principles, constitutional bodies.
• Practise "fact + principle" type questions. These give you a legal rule and ask you to apply it to a situation. The trick is to stick to the rule given, not your outside knowledge of law.
• Do not try to memorise sections and acts. JMI tests reasoning, not memory of law.

General Studies (40 Marks — High Priority)

You cannot cover everything in 6 days. Focus on high-yield topics:

• Indian polity — Parliament, President, Governor, Supreme Court, High Courts, elections. These are standard and repeat across years.
• Modern Indian history — freedom struggle, important events and leaders from 1857 to 1947.
• Important national schemes and awards from the past 1-2 years.

Current Affairs (30 Marks — Consistent Daily Effort)

This section is about events from the past 8 to 10 months (approximately August 2025 to May 2026). In the next 6 days:

• Read a good current affairs compilation or monthly digest for the past 8 months. Many are available as free PDFs online.
• Focus on: appointments (President, PM, Chief Justices, heads of international bodies), major summits, sports results, major Indian government decisions, and international events.
• Revise at least 10 current affairs topics per day until exam day. Do not try to read new newspapers now — use compilations instead.

General English (30 Marks — Quick Gains)

English is one section where you can score quickly with focused practice:

• Revise 50 to 100 commonly asked synonyms and antonyms. These are usually from a standard vocabulary list and tend to repeat.
• Practice 5 to 10 reading comprehension passages. Focus on reading fast and finding the main idea and specific detail answers.
• Brush up on common grammar rules — subject-verb agreement, correct use of articles (a/an/the), common preposition errors, and tenses.
• Learn 10 to 15 common idioms and their meanings.

Numerical Ability (10 Marks — Easy Scoring)

This section has only 10 questions and is the easiest to prepare for in the last few days:

• Revise formulas for percentage, profit-loss, simple interest, and average. These are the most common topics.
• Solve 20 to 30 practice questions from these topics. Do not spend more than 30 to 40 minutes per day on Maths — the effort-to-reward ratio is lower compared to Legal Aptitude and General Studies.
• On exam day, attempt the Numerical Ability questions first if you find them easy. It saves time and boosts your confidence.

You have 2 hours for 150 questions. That works out to about 48 seconds per question. Here is a suggested time split:

Negative Marking — Be Smart About It

JMI BA LLB has a -0.25 penalty for each wrong answer. This means that if you attempt 4 questions wrong, you lose 1 full mark. Here is how to handle it:

• If you are reasonably sure (can eliminate 2 options), attempt the question.
• If you have no idea about the answer and cannot eliminate any option, leave it blank.
• Never guess randomly among all 4 options.
• In Current Affairs and General Studies, if you know the topic area, you can usually eliminate at least 1 or 2 wrong options and make an educated attempt.

The 6-Day Countdown Plan

• Day 1 (May 29): Download admit card. Revise Legal Aptitude — Latin maxims + constitutional law basics.
• Day 2 (May 30): General Studies revision — polity and modern history. Current Affairs — August to November 2025 events.
