Is IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) AICTE approved for an M.Com?

The following information will clear all your doubts regarding IGNOU being AICTE approved: IGNOU is not only a central university but also a nodal body to regulate distance education in India. IGNOU can commence any course, even technical courses without or with approval of AICTE since it has the right to do so as per its constitution. IGNOU has its own SOET (school of engineering and technology) duly approved by HRD and UGC. Their degrees and diplomas are equivalent to any other technical system in India. AICTE never recognizes any degree/diploma in distance courses and hence it should be clearly understood for any institution. Nonetheless, IGNOU courses are themselves valid. However, through a joint resolution of DEC(IGNOU) and AICTE, IGNOU is no longer offering any technical degree/diploma and neither recognizes other universities in DEC mode.

IGNOU M.Com Admission 2026

Admissions to the IGNOU M.Com programme follow the university's standard bi-annual cycle, with sessions starting in January and July each year. The January 2026 session is currently open with the last date extended to 30th March 2026. Any graduate from a recognised university in any discipline is eligible to apply. Admission Process

Visit the official IGNOU Samarth Admission Portal at ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.
Click on "New Registration" and create a profile using a valid email ID and mobile number (OTP verification required).
Log in and select "MCOM" as the desired programme.
Choose the preferred Regional Centre and Study Centre from the available list.
Fill in personal, academic, and category details carefully.
Upload scanned copies of: graduation mark sheet/degree certificate, photograph (under 100 KB), signature (under 100 KB), and category certificate (if applicable, under 200 KB).

Ques. Is IGNOU M.Com valid and recognised for government jobs and higher studies?

Ans. Yes, the IGNOU M.Com degree is fully recognised by all member institutions of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). IGNOU is a Central University established by an Act of Parliament, and its degrees are accepted for government employment, UGC-NET eligibility, and admission to PhD programmes. Ques. Can I pursue IGNOU M.Com if my graduation was not in Commerce?

Ans. Yes. The eligibility for IGNOU M.Com is "any graduate or equivalent from a recognised university," which means graduates from any discipline (Arts, Science, Engineering, etc.) are eligible to apply. There is no restriction on the undergraduate stream. However, students without a commerce background may find some subjects challenging initially and should be prepared to put in extra effort.

Ques. What is the MCOP-001 Project Course, and is it mandatory?

Ans. Yes, MCOP-001 (Project Course) is a mandatory 6-credit component in Semester 4. Students are required to undertake a research project on a topic related to commerce or management, prepare a project report, and submit it to IGNOU. The project is evaluated by the university. Students should start planning their project topic early in the programme to avoid delays in completion.

Ques. How does the semester system work for IGNOU M.Com? Can I appear for all 4 semesters at once?

Ans. No, you cannot appear for all 4 semesters simultaneously. The M.Com is a semester-based programme where you must complete Semesters 1 and 2 in Year 1 and Semesters 3 and 4 in Year 2. You appear for the TEE (Term-End Examination) at the end of each semester. However, IGNOU allows you to carry forward backlogs, meaning if you fail or miss a paper in one semester, you can appear for it in the next TEE cycle without repeating the entire semester.

Ques. Is there any difference between IGNOU M.Com ODL and IGNOU M.Com Online?

Ans. Yes. The ODL (Open Distance Learning) M.Com is the traditional distance mode where you receive printed study materials and attend counselling sessions at your study centre. The Online M.Com is delivered entirely through IGNOU's online platform (iop.ignouonline.ac.in) with digital content and no physical study centre requirement. The fees for the online mode are different (approximately Rs. 9,000 per year). Both modes lead to the same IGNOU M.Com degree, but the online mode is more suitable for students with reliable internet access.

Ques. How many assignments do I need to submit per semester, and what happens if I miss the deadline?

Ans. For each course in the M.Com programme, you are required to submit one assignment per semester before the TEE. Missing the assignment submission deadline makes you ineligible to appear in the TEE for that particular course. IGNOU typically sets the assignment submission deadline about 30 days before the TEE. It is strongly advised to submit assignments well in advance and retain the acknowledgement receipt as proof of submission. If you miss the deadline, you will have to wait for the next TEE cycle.

Fees and Financial Aid:

One of the Best thing in the IGNOU was fee is only 11000 and we have to pay only 5000 per year and course was inculed Tution Fee, Book and Other Utilities fee was approx 1000 and Exam fee was 500 Per Year , Rest No Scholarhsip was for General and any SC ST will be get the Benifits form govt. Over all Expiricenee was Good as Flexibale Study and many other Utilitis Benifits

Fees was also not that high .so i didnt have any difficulties to pay fees on time.

Total was 20000, i paid 8000 for 2 years and 4000 as exam fees. In Indira gandhi national open university fees was not that much and i really liked the overall experience and it also allows me to do any side by side activities as well especially i was a working person so i managed my education and job smoothly while studying in indira Gandhi national open university. For categories and otber financially weak students there was relaxation for those students .

LIFE AT IGNOU

hello , I am paying 9700 per year fees of MCOM. degree, all other fees are included in these fees , additional charges are apply on regestration fees, and application fees . my batchmate also paying the same fees of same course,little bit discount available for reserve categories . scholarship available only for other categories like sc , st , obc . amount will be paid from government to student are around 13k to 15k, specially for girls.

IGNOU Best Way to Study Further

Affordability and relevance of curriculum to those students who want to study further and donnt have enough financial help. And also working professionals can pursue their higher studies.

Examination conducted were mismanaged by the management as i have appear for multiple seating arrangement for a single examination.

For the first year i have paid for Rs. 5500 including tuition fees and other related fees like the enrollment fees and identity card. Tuition Fees - Rs. 5000 Identity Crad - Rs. 100 Enrollment Fees and Other Charges - Rs. 400 The first year has an addiittional specification like as dual degree of Post Graduate Diploma in Internal Business Operations along with Master of Commerce First year. I got an oline portal to make the payment of tuition fees and other examination form fees according to papers. As IGNOU is an open learning university so the fees for each student is same Pan India.

We should get a guide from the University before exam.

Yearly i have to submit 20,000/- I do self study at home so no tution fees. My batch mates submits more than me because of the different streams they have chosen. PM Yashasvi Post Matric Scholarship i had applied and i received an amount of 2,000/- as an OBC student.

all the student afford these type of online education fees structure

many student have less known information about exam tiimimg fees and course subject and fees structure
yes ignou does not create any take eny type of college classes and without classes exam will be tough to give

per year cost approx 10500 per year and also you have to pay examination fees 200 per subject that total cost of 8 subject is equal to 1600 rupees i applies for masters of commerce (m.com) and i did give the exams in dec 2024 for 1st sem after paying 800 rs examination fees and my 2nd sem exam will be held on june 2025 and i didnt get any scholarship

Suitable for distance learning

It is a good option for distance learning. But personally I hate the way examiner examines the exams.. Also there is a burden of assignments to be submitted along with it for all subjects but on the pros side these help in getting 30? in final grades

Experience of a student.

As per my idea no increase in fee structure and the cost of education and other fee are very genuine. As per my knowledge no scholarship is distributed in this university, I unable to get the benefit of scholarship in the both year of my class, also there is no other extra activities to generate employment and other job responsibilities.

Everything about ignou and mcom

It's flexible . You can give exams whenever you want
Fees was less as compared to other universities
You can work while pursuing degree as it's open university

There are no classes for mcom students . In du sol there are classes

I didn't get any scholarship. Also fees is low 8000 per year so it is quite good because it was masters as compared to others . There is another charge for exams which is not included in course fees which is 1400(200 per subject)

M.com at IGNOU

The study material was easily available in online mode too.
The comfort of attending the classes in the weekends.
The freedom of doing another course while I was doing my certificate course.

Assignments entirely emphasize on theoratical concepts instead of practicality.
The university does not include placement policies in the offered course
Minimum exposure to practical and interactive sessions

Given the fact the university is widely known for providing education via Open Learning, the fee structure is reasonably justified with the growing demand of the course in that comfort zone of open learning. University does not offer campus employment which could be incorporated in the course.
