IGNOU DVAPFV FAQs
Ques. Is DVAPFV suitable for someone who wants to start a food processing business?
Ans. Yes, DVAPFV is specifically designed with entrepreneurship in mind. The programme includes a dedicated course on Entrepreneurship and Marketing (BPVI 8) and covers the entire value chain from procurement of raw materials to marketing of processed products. Graduates are equipped to start their own food processing units, become traders, transporters, wholesalers, retailers, or exporters of fresh and processed fruits and vegetables.
Ques. What kind of practical training is included in DVAPFV?
Ans. Each of the 8 courses in DVAPFV has an equal theory and practical component (2 theory credits + 2 practical credits = 4 credits per course). The practical training covers food processing techniques, quality testing, microbiology lab work, and food engineering operations. Students must attend practical sessions at their designated study centre, which is typically an agricultural university, food technology institute, or IGNOU centre with appropriate lab facilities.
Ques. What are the career opportunities after completing DVAPFV?
Ans. Graduates can work as procurement assistants, fruits/vegetables graders, post-harvest technicians, junior plant operators, production technicians/supervisors in fruit and vegetable processing industries, quality control assistants, packaging supervisors, cold storage supervisors, transport supervisors, retail supervisors, marketing assistants, and extension assistants. Self-employment opportunities include becoming a food processor, trader, transporter, wholesaler, retailer, or exporter of fresh and processed fruits and vegetables.
Ques. Is DVAPFV recognised by the food processing industry?
Ans. Yes, DVAPFV was developed with the support of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India, which gives it strong industry recognition. The programme is designed to meet the workforce requirements of the food processing industry and is recognised by all AIU member institutions. Graduates are well-positioned for entry-level positions in the food processing sector.
Ques. Can farmers or rural youth without a 10+2 qualification enroll in DVAPFV?
Ans. Candidates who have passed Class 10 but not 10+2 can enroll simultaneously for IGNOU's Basic Preparatory Programme (BPP) and DVAPFV. The BPP is a bridge programme that allows Class 10 pass students to pursue diploma-level programmes. This provision makes DVAPFV accessible to a wider rural audience.
Ques. How is the practical examination conducted for DVAPFV?
Ans. Practical examinations are conducted at the designated study centre (typically an agricultural university or food technology institute). Students are evaluated on their ability to perform food processing operations, quality testing, and microbiology experiments. A practical record/journal must be maintained throughout the programme and submitted for evaluation. Students must attend all practical sessions as scheduled by the study centre.
