The Certificate in Business Skills (CBS) is a vocational certificate programme offered by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) through its School of Management Studies (SOMS) in Open Distance Learning (ODL) mode. Developed jointly by IGNOU, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF), and Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada, the programme aims to equip disadvantaged sections of society including street children, unemployed youth, rural and urban poor, and women with practical business skills for gainful self-employment. The programme spans a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 2 years, carries 18 credits, and is offered entirely in English. The total programme fee is Rs. 3,500 (plus registration and development fees), making it one of the most affordable certificate programmes at IGNOU. There is no entrance exam, and admission is open to anyone who has passed 10+2 or its equivalent. The CBS programme is popular for its low cost, flexible learning schedule, and practical focus on business communication, entrepreneurship, and computer fundamentals.
