IGNOU: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 5 Reviews

IGNOU offers a highly affordable and flexible distance learning model, making it an ideal choice for diverse students, including housewives and working professionals. The annual fees are approximately INR 2700, with an additional INR 200 per paper for exam forms. Scholarships are available for bright students, though often unnecessary due to the already minimal fees. Fee reductions are also available for reserved category students. Students can receive books in their first year, but they need to acquire them on their own in subsequent years.

Regarding placements, around 60% of students enrolled in the course get placed, with salary packages ranging from 5 LPA to 12 LPA. About 50% of students secure internships with renowned companies like Wipro and Tata Motors. However, it's important to note that graduation courses do not have recruiting companies visiting, and internships are not available for these programs. Overall, IGNOU's structure supports students who wish to pursue further education or exams alongside their degree, balancing affordability with educational flexibility.

BAECH is a BA (Honours) Economics programme under CBCS, which is more comprehensive with 148 credits covering 14 Core Courses, 4 Discipline Specific Electives, and Generic Electives. Ques. I am from a Science background. Can I apply for IGNOU BAFEC?

Ans. Yes. The BAFEC programme requires only 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board, with no specific stream requirement. Students from Science, Commerce, or Arts backgrounds are all eligible to apply.

Ques. Is the IGNOU BA (Economics) degree valid for government jobs and competitive exams?

Ans. Yes. IGNOU is a Central University established by an Act of Parliament, and its degrees are recognised by the UGC and Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The BAFEC degree is valid for all government jobs, competitive exams, and higher education admissions where a graduation degree is required.

Ques. Can I pursue IGNOU BAFEC along with a full-time job?

Ans. Yes. IGNOU's ODL model is specifically designed for working professionals. You receive printed or digital study materials at home, attend optional contact/counselling sessions at your nearest study centre (usually on weekends), submit assignments online, and appear for Term-End Exams twice a year (June and December). There are no mandatory daily classes.

Ques. What is the maximum time I have to complete the BAFEC programme?

Ans. The maximum duration to complete the BAFEC programme is 6 years from the date of admission. This gives students ample flexibility to complete the programme at their own pace, even if they face interruptions due to work or personal commitments.

Ques. After completing BAFEC, can I directly apply for M.A. Economics at IGNOU or other universities?

Ans. Yes. After completing BAFEC (BA Economics), you are eligible to apply for M.A. Economics at IGNOU (programme code: MEC) or any other recognised university. IGNOU's M.A. Economics (MEC) is a 2-year programme offered through distance mode. How to change IGNOU subject/course/medium?

Dev Anand

how to change subject/course/medium at IGNOU:

IGNOU allows changes in certain circumstances:

  • Subject change: possible within the first 30 days of admission for the current session. visit your regional center or apply through ignou.ac.in ? student zone ? program change/subject change
  • Program/course change: if you want to switch to a completely different program (e.g., BA to BCA), you generally cannot transfer — you must re-apply for the new program fresh. some provisions exist within the same school/faculty
  • Medium change: can typically be changed with a written request to your regional study center

the annual window for changes is narrow — usually the first month of each admission cycle (Jan or July). after the window, changes are not generally accepted. visit ignou.ac.in ? student support or your nearest IGNOU regional center. bring your enrollment ID and relevant documents. call your regional center to confirm the current process as IGNOU procedures can vary slightly by center.
