Panjab University Chandigarh Faculties : Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 2444 Reviews

The faculty at Panjab University is noted for its high qualifications, with 95% holding Ph.D. degrees and substantial research experience. The average teaching experience is over 10 years, and faculty members are recognized for their mentorship and student-focused guidance. The faculty-to-student ratio varies by department but is generally manageable, though some areas experience strain due to fewer faculty members. The teaching includes a mix of senior professors with over 30 years of experience and younger assistant professors closer in age to students, which aids in understanding modern student needs.

Faculty members are approachable and supportive, often going beyond classroom teaching to mentor students. However, there are criticisms regarding outdated teaching methods and a need for more creative and engaging teaching styles. The curriculum is periodically updated, but some courses lag in incorporating the latest industry trends. Exams follow a semester system with internal assessments and practical vivas, where the failure rate is low, though higher in professional courses. Overall, despite some gaps, the faculty members are dedicated, well-qualified, and contribute significantly to a positive educational environment.

The timings of classes are in dividend into two shifts : morning and evening. The morning classes commence at 9:00am and go on till 1:15pm. The teachers and professors are very friendly and helpful. They posses great knowledge and skills. My course is Law(LLB) it is a 3 year course and includes 6 semesters, 2 semesters in each year. The exams are conducted in the month of December and May. The written exams are of 80 marks and the internal assessment is of 20 marks, giving a total of 100 marks. The internal assessment is a mixture of written assignment and oral presentation. The exams are easy only if you have studied well and have good knowledge of concepts but one can refer to previous year questions as well. This course should be taken only by people who are genuinely interested in leaning and gaining knowledge. The curriculum is exactly relevant to the subject and it is updated with change in latest laws.
