HBTU BS-MS Mathematics FAQs
Ques. What is the duration and structure of this programme?
Ans. It is a five-year integrated dual-degree programme that awards both a bachelor’s and a master’s in mathematics with data science. Students study foundational mathematics in the early years and move to advanced topics, programming and data-science applications later, finishing with a research project in the final year. There is no need to apply separately for the master’s stage, which saves a year compared with doing the two degrees one after the other. The continuous structure also lets students take up research and internships earlier than a conventional bachelor’s degree allows, and they stay with a stable peer group and faculty across all five years of study.
Ques. What is the total fee for BS-MS Mathematics?
Ans. The total fee is INR 4,02,500, made up of an annual academic fee of INR 80,000 over five years plus a one-time registration fee of INR 2,500. Hostel and mess charges are separate. The fee is set by the university and is significantly lower than comparable private integrated science programmes. The academic fee is paid year by year, so the cost is spread across the duration of the programme, and eligible domicile students can claim state fee reimbursement to reduce the burden further over the duration of the integrated programme.
Ques. How is admission decided for this programme?
Ans. Selection is merit-based, using JEE Main rank first, then CUET-UG rank, and finally a University Entrance Test if seats remain. Candidates apply through the HBTU portal after their qualifying exam result is declared. The programme has 60 sanctioned seats in the School of Basic and Applied Sciences. Because JEE Main is the primary basis, students aiming for this course should treat it as their main entrance exam and keep a valid scorecard ready for the application and counselling stages.
Ques. What is the eligibility for BS-MS Mathematics?
Ans. Applicants must have passed 10+2 with Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects and one of Chemistry or Computer Science. A minimum aggregate of 55 percent is required in these subjects, relaxed to 50 percent for SC, ST, OBC-NCL and PwD candidates. A valid JEE Main score strengthens the application. Students who have studied Computer Science alongside Mathematics often find the data-science components of the curriculum easier to pick up, though the early semesters cover programming basics for everyone regardless of their school background.
Ques. What career options follow this degree?
Ans. Graduates pursue careers in data science, analytics, research, actuarial work, teaching and software roles that need strong mathematical foundations. The integrated master’s also opens doors to PhD admissions in India and abroad. The data-science training makes graduates competitive for analyst and modelling roles in technology and finance firms. Those inclined towards academics can move directly into doctoral research, while others use the quantitative skills to enter consulting, banking and product analytics positions soon after completing the programme. The combination of a strong mathematics core and applied data-science training is increasingly valued by employers hiring for machine-learning and quantitative roles.
