Being one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the UK and a part of the Russell Group, the University of Edinburgh offers a range of services while withholding its traditions.
The course is well crafted but very intensive, more than most courses. It helps develop your in-depth knowledge on every paper, thus, in the field of IHRM.
We are also offered services like career development and personal development which help us in shaping our CV and job applications as well as in our well-being

Dislikes

At times there can be a feeling of burnout because of the intensive course.
I do not hate anything specific about the University. I am happy with my decision to pursue my MSc here, but there can be a feeling of loneliness at times.
Unlike most universities in India, the marking system is very strict. A distinction is considered to be 70% here. So, achieving marks in the 80s and 90s is a distant dream for most.

Placement

There are no placements. People job hunt. People get jobs at Edinburgh City Council, Start-ups and other organisations as well. Some choose to return to India. The average salary range is of 30k - 40k pounds annually. I have not graduated yet, so cannot provide further information.
There are several competitive graduate programs available where one needs to start applying from right after the course commencement as getting hired is a prolonged process. It is a competitive job market so one needs to be patient and regular with job applications.

I was looking for University accommodations, so I looked up on the university website. My monthly rent is around 745 pounds, and it's an en-suite accommodation.
The challenge one might face is that it is difficult to find affordable accommodation here. If you are looking for accommodation at a lower rent, then you might have to go for a sharing accommodation. Or you can come here and look for flats to share but that is a risky move if you have no connections here.
My accommodation is around 15 mins walking distance from the university. The city is pretty much walkable so that is of no issue. There are many Indian students in the University accommodation.

Flexibility in course selections
World class library, lecture halls and other buildings
The surroundings of the university and the city of Edinburgh are very beautiful

Dislikes

The fees is on the higher end
The course is a bit intensive and the pressure could be really high during assignment periods
During peak times, the library would become overcrowded and it's difficult to find a seat

Placement

I would say about 50% got a full-time offer within 6 months in my course. In other courses it was lower. But in the batch after ours, the stats were better so it could be because of the job market.
The job application process is quite difficult. Prepare a CV and apply to jobs through job portals like LinkedIn and Indeed. There are new graduate roles (graduate schemes) that have stricter deadlines and are open twice a year so it's important to keep looking at them so as to not miss out on the deadline.
There are no placements as such in the university and students have to take efforts on their own for searching for a job.
For computer science, major banks like Barclays, JP Morgan, etc. are in Glasgow, which do hire candidates from the University of Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow. Other companies that hire software engineers and data scientists include Amazon, Google, Meta, Wise, Skyscanner, Revolut, Spotify, Microsoft, Adobe, Apple, etc.

It was a university accommodation. When you get an offer of acceptance, you get an option to apply for accommodation on the university website.
The accommodation I got was really nice and very modern. The amenities were great. However, the only catch was that it was a little bit far from the university compared to other accommodations.
I would recommend students to apply early for accommodation, as the best ones get filled early. Also, I stayed in a twin room to save costs but this is a personal decision.
My accommodation was 25 minutes by bus from the college. Indian student population was found in every accommodation.

Limited time during labwork to actually gain an insight into everything.
Limited role of the university in helping bag a job.
Slight scope for improvement in some coursework.

Placement

The percentage varies from course to course. I don't have access to the information other than the one already available online. The same goes for the salary range. Students find jobs using campus portals and careers services' help, LinkedIn, reaching out to people, online platforms like Indeed, etc. We don't receive information about other students. There are no campus placements so companies don't hire directly from the campus.

I found my accommodation using the University website. It was a University accommodation. The monthly rent was around 670 GBP for an en-suite room with a shared kitchen (shared among 11 people). Since I applied timely, I didn't find the process of finding accommodation challenging. However, if applied later, it can get pretty tough as flats in good locations go out pretty fast. So, my recommendation is to apply as timely as one can. Student accommodations also provide University-led teams that manage the property, which might help make the process easier. My accommodation was a 7-minute walk from my school's building. There is no specific region where most Indians stay and they are scattered across the city.

I like how supportive the university is and the social life. Also, the faculty is great.

The careers service at the university helps a lot of students get employment even if you passed out for years. They are dedicated and you can book an appointment whenever needed.

I chose Edinburgh because I have been here before and l love the city. Plus, the university has great resources and a fascinating history. The faculty is renowned and the research put is also great.

The university can cancel optional subjects at any time without giving a reason which is disappointing.

Placement

My university does not have this facility unfortunately.

I chose the university for its ranking but when I applied the ranking was 16 in the world now it is 27 in the world according to QS. I now realize that ranking plays a very small part in the facilities provided, as all universities here offer the same facilities. My experience has been average as according to me the university didn’t provide adequate academic support that students needed in terms of subjects that were new and challenging for most of my class. As a class representative, I took a lot of the concerns to them and the university didn’t do anything about the problems we faced as international students.

"One thing that I like about my university is the fact that there is a support system for anything and everything that I could possibly need and everyone has been pretty good in the way they have guided me throughout the session. Even the professors were pretty helpful and understanding. "

"However, one main flaw that I have noticed was the fact that in the UK MSc courses are only for a year. I felt that I have had a very compact schedule, which in its way has its pros and cons. "

Placement

For most of the MSC program placement is not provided directly by the university. They have many support services that will help you with the review of your CV, one-on-one mock interview process or even discussion about prospective jobs. Research opportunities are provided via many projects that are industry supported, which means that you will work in collaboration with industries, but the ones that doesn't have any good opportunities to depict your skills in your CV.

I chose this university because of it's location, job market and job security. Additionally the QR ranking, provisions in terms of qualifications of staff and amenities within the university contributed towards the selection of my university. University life has been pretty good in terms of the different things that I have learnt and my new found independence. Additionally, the academics will be this in terms of the material that was provided, skills that I have obtained through my coursework and assignments. All of which honed me with skills that are very much needed in today’s industry. Additionally, Masters abroad has given me the opportunity to interact with different people. All of us belong to different cultures and I have had many meaningful experiences.

I chose because the program here is excellent and the faculty. Everybody is associated with CERN in the experimental physics department and the program here allows one to choose from a wide range of subjects.
The exposure, the living abroad experience. The faculty that we get to meet. The course options. I love the city. The fact that so many famous physicists and mathematicians have been to this university and are still here. Dr. Peter Higgs is from this University. The faculty is fabulous.

Dislikes

The curriculum pressure. It's too much to take this course should be a 2 year course. The support in terms of research opportunities and finding jobs. The availability of faculty, which is not much.

Placement

Well, it isn't easy to find a job or PhD position. I am currently struggling to find research opportunities. I would say there is not much support from the University in that department.

It is going good. Though due to so much pressure, mental health of alot of students is affected and most people take special circumstances and extensions to meet deadlines or improve their performance. It's a challenge to pass courses atleast in my degree program. Most of the people are struggling to just pass. And alot of have applied for special circumstances. It's definitely extremely hard.

The university can improve the number of student accommodation in the city as every year there is a housing crisis. The university can try to invite more companies for job fair as it provides networking opportunities. The university can try to reduce the workload for Masters student as it becomes quite challenging to manage so many things in such short period of time

The university student development team will help you with networking, CV, Cover letter, mock interview and will organize job fair. But don't expect that the companies will come to the university for job interview like India

The overall experience was good as I got the opportunity to study at one of the best universities in the world. At the same time, I also got the opportunity to interact with people from all over the world, learn from them, and developed a life long friendship
