Edinburgh Napier University admissions run across three intakes: September (primary), January, and May for part-time entry. Indian applicants need Class XII at 60 percent for UG and a Bachelor’s at 55 percent for most master’s programs.
- Next deadline: 13 January 2027 (23:30 IST) for UCAS submissions to the primary September 2027 intake.
- Base tuition from £11,290 (₹14.59 Lakhs) for PG, UCAS charges £34.50 (₹4,457) for UG application.
- UG needs Class XII at 60 percent, PG a Bachelor’s at 55 percent, and IELTS 6.0 overall.
- Napier does not publish an acceptance rate, though it admits most applicants meeting its published entry thresholds.
Edinburgh Napier University pulls Indian applicants for MSc Computing, MSc Cyber Security, and BSc (Hons) Computer Science, backed by REF-rated research strength in engineering and psychology. Student sentiment centres on the compact three-campus setup, industry-linked coursework, and the two-year post-study Graduate Route visa.

Edinburgh Napier University Application Deadlines for Indian Students
Edinburgh Napier University runs a September primary intake, a smaller January intake, and a May window that stays open only for part-time master’s routes. Undergraduate applicants route through UCAS (Napier UCAS institution code E59), while postgraduates apply direct on Napier’s online application portal. Deadlines below are drawn from the official Napier India entry requirements page and the UCAS 2027 cycle calendar.
Edinburgh Napier University’s primary intake for Indian students is September, when most programs open.
| Intake | Level | Applications Open | Deadline (IST) | App Fee | Portal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| September 2027 (Primary intake) | UG (UCAS route) | 1 September 2026 | 13 January 2027, 23:30 | £34.50 (₹4,457) | UCAS |
| September 2027 (Primary intake) | PG taught (Direct) | Rolling, currently open | 30 June 2027 recommended | None | Napier online |
| January 2027 | UG and PG (Direct) | Rolling, currently open | 31 October 2026 recommended | None (PG), £34.50 (UG via UCAS) | Napier online |
| May 2027 (Part-time only) | Selected PG | Rolling | 28 February 2027 recommended | None | Napier online |
| UCAS Extra 2027 | UG | 25 February 2027 | 4 July 2027 | Included in £34.50 | UCAS |
| UCAS Clearing 2027 | UG | 2 July 2027 | 23 September 2027 | Included in £34.50 | UCAS |
The May intake is not a full-time route, so it does not carry a Student visa. Indian applicants needing a full-time Student visa should target September or January. The 31 October 2026 recommended cut-off for January 2027 protects a full 12-week visa buffer between the CAS letter and travel.
Planning note: UCAS 2027 opened submissions on 1 September 2026. Filing early in the cycle gives Napier’s admissions team more time to make offers and issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) before the visa rush.
Edinburgh Napier University Eligibility for Indian Students
Napier maintains published academic and English thresholds that Indian applicants meet by grade or by waiver. The Common Application platform does not apply here, so figures in this section are drawn from the Napier English language requirements page and the India entry page.
- UG general entry: Class XII at 60 percent or above from any Indian board (CBSE, ICSE, or State boards).
- UG advanced entry to Year 2: Class XII at 75 percent or above, with relevant subject depth for the target course.
- PG taught entry: Indian Bachelor’s degree at 55 percent or above, rising to 60 percent for MSc Computing with Professional Placement.
- Research entry (MRes and PhD): Master’s degree with a research component, plus a research proposal aligned with a supervisor’s area.
Napier accepts a wide list of English proficiency tests. The taught programs sit at IELTS 6.0 overall with 5.5 in every skill. Research degrees step up to IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in every skill.
| Test | UG and PG Taught Minimum | Research (MRes and PhD) Minimum |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 6.0 overall, 5.5 per skill | 6.5 overall, 6.0 per skill |

| PTE Academic | 59 overall, 59 per component | 65 overall, 59 per component |
| Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency | 169 overall, 162 per component | 176 overall, 169 per component |
| Trinity ISE II | 90 overall, 80 per skill | Trinity ISE III with pass |
Edinburgh Napier University IELTS Waivers for Indians
Napier accepts several waivers that let Indian applicants skip IELTS or TOEFL entirely. Undergraduate applicants qualify with 70 percent or above in English in Class XII from a recognised Indian board (10+2 CBSE, ICSE, or State). Postgraduate applicants qualify if their Bachelor’s degree was taught and assessed in English and completed within the last two years, or if their Bachelor’s is two to five years old alongside 65 percent or above in Class XII English. Only two waivers, not three, apply per applicant, so check which route your marks support before booking a test slot.
Insider note: Napier confirms the English waiver on the offer letter itself. If the offer letter still lists IELTS as a condition, email india@napier.ac.uk with your Class XII marksheet before booking a test, most cases clear within a fortnight.
Edinburgh Napier University PG Programs and English Scores
Napier’s postgraduate portfolio for 2027 entry spans computing, cyber security, business, and international management. Every row below matches the individual course page on napier.ac.uk. Base tuition for full-time PG programs runs from £11,290 (₹14.59 Lakhs) to £22,290 (₹28.80 Lakhs) for the academic year, with course-wise details on Napier’s detailed fee breakdown. Cost of attendance and living costs live on the fees article, this page covers admissions only.

| MSc International Marketing with Festival and Event Management | 1 year full-time | Bachelor’s at 55 percent in any discipline | IELTS 6.0 |
MSc Nursing is the only postgraduate route with a stricter English floor, because the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) sets IELTS 7.0 across every skill for practice registration in the UK. Every other taught PG program sits at the institution-wide IELTS 6.0 minimum.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Edinburgh Napier University page for your chosen program before applying.
Edinburgh Napier University UG Programs and Entry Thresholds
Undergraduate entry at Edinburgh Napier University runs through UCAS. Base tuition for international UG programs sits between £7,515 (₹9.71 Lakhs) for select entry streams and £21,120 (₹27.28 Lakhs) for the flagship computing degrees, per the university’s 2026-27 international fee schedule.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| BSc (Hons) Computer Science | 4 years full-time | Class XII at 60 percent, Mathematics through Class XII | IELTS 6.0 |
| BEng (Hons) Computing | 4 years full-time | Class XII at 60 percent, Mathematics through Class XII | IELTS 6.0 |

| BSc (Hons) Psychology | 4 years full-time | Class XII at 65 percent, English required | IELTS 6.0 |
Applicants scoring 75 percent or above at Class XII can request Year 2 advanced entry, cutting the degree by one year. Napier reviews Year 2 requests on a case-by-case basis at the point of application, so mention advanced entry in the UCAS personal statement.
Edinburgh Napier University MBA Admissions
The MBA Business Leadership and Practice is Napier’s flagship management degree, delivered over one year full-time at the Craiglockhart campus. Tuition sits at £12,330 (₹15.93 Lakhs) for 2026-27 entry, lower than most Scottish MBAs. QS ranks the program at #70 in Europe for the 2026 MBA rankings.
Edinburgh Napier University MBA Eligibility
- Bachelor’s degree: Any discipline, at 55 percent or above from a recognised Indian university.
- Managerial experience: Minimum 3 years post-qualification in a supervisory, team-lead, or managerial capacity.
- GMAT or GRE: Not required. Napier assesses on academic record, CV, and interview.
- English: IELTS 6.0 overall or an approved waiver.
Edinburgh Napier University MBA Application Rounds
Napier operates a rolling MBA admissions cycle for the September 2027 intake, not fixed rounds. Applications are reviewed as they arrive, and offers issue within two weeks of a complete file. The Business School closes intake to Indian applicants once the CAS quota for the year is filled, usually by early June 2027.
Edinburgh Napier University MBA Interview Stage
Shortlisted candidates sit a 30-minute online interview with the MBA Programme Director, focused on managerial context, motivations, and career plans. Interviews run over Microsoft Teams within 10 to 14 days of the initial offer decision. There is no group discussion or written assessment.
Insider note: The Napier MBA is one of the few UK one-year MBAs that accepts three years of experience rather than the standard five, so it draws Indian mid-career applicants ineligible at LBS, Warwick, or Cranfield. The trade-off is a smaller cohort of around 40 to 50 students.
Edinburgh Napier University PhD Admissions
Napier admits PhD candidates on a rolling basis across all six schools, with strong Indian representation in Computing, Engineering, and Psychology. Funded studentships carry a UKRI-aligned stipend of £19,237 per year (₹24.85 Lakhs) for 2024-25 rates, with 2026-27 rates published in the Doctoral College funding pages ahead of each cycle.
Edinburgh Napier University PhD Application Steps
- Identify a supervisor whose research area matches your proposal, via the school’s staff directory.
- Draft a 2,000 to 3,000 word research proposal and share it informally with the supervisor before applying.
- Submit the online PhD application with proposal, CV, transcripts, two academic references, and English score.
- Attend a 45-minute interview with the supervisor and a second-reader academic.
- Receive the offer letter and CAS on acceptance.
Edinburgh Napier University PhD Eligibility
Candidates need a Master’s degree with a research component from a recognised university, though exceptional Bachelor’s applicants with published research are considered. Research-track English is IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in every skill. Napier expects proposals to align with an existing research theme, cold-submitting a proposal outside supervisor coverage rarely results in an offer.
Key insight: Napier’s Cyber Academy and School of Computing publish annual funded PhD calls each January with fixed application windows. Applying to a call, rather than the open PhD route, materially improves the chance of full funding.
Edinburgh Napier University Application Process
Napier splits the application route by level. Undergraduates apply through UCAS, postgraduates apply direct on the Napier online portal. Both routes need a full document set before submission, so gather papers before opening the application.
- Choose the correct portal. UG applicants register on UCAS for the 2027 cycle (submissions opened 1 September 2026, deadline 13 January 2027 at 23:30 IST). PG applicants create an account on the Napier online application system.
- Pick the exact course code. Napier lists UCAS codes per program on each course page. PG applicants pick the full-time or with-placement variant carefully.
- Pay the application fee. UCAS charges £34.50 (₹4,457) covering up to five choices. Napier levies no direct application fee on the PG portal.
- Upload the document set. Transcripts, degree certificates, passport, English test report or waiver evidence, personal statement or SOP, and one academic reference.
- Wait for the decision. Napier issues most PG decisions within 2 weeks of a complete file, UCAS offers arrive by 16 May 2027 for on-time UG applications.
- Accept the offer and pay the deposit. The £6,000 (₹7.75 Lakhs) tuition deposit secures the CAS letter for the Student visa.
- Apply for the Student visa. File Form the UK Student visa application at least 12 weeks before travel.
Planning note: Napier lists a two-week decision window as its published turnaround, but complex files with prior UK study, gap years, or unusual credentials can take up to four weeks. Applying by 31 March 2027 for September 2027 leaves buffer for both offer and visa.
Edinburgh Napier University Documents Required
The document list below applies to Indian applicants at both UG and PG level. Napier lists no country-specific extras beyond standard UK immigration paperwork. Keep certified copies alongside originals for the visa stage.
- Academic transcripts: Class X and XII marksheets for UG, plus Bachelor’s transcripts for PG.
- Degree certificate or provisional certificate: For PG applicants who have completed their Bachelor’s.
- Passport: Bio-data page, valid for at least 24 months from intended travel.
- English test score report: IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or waiver evidence (Class XII English marksheet for the 70 percent route).
- Personal statement or SOP: 500 to 700 words, course fit, career plan, and why Napier.
- Academic reference: One reference for taught programs, two for research programs.
- Updated CV: Required for PG and MBA, listing work experience with dates and roles.
- Work experience letters: Only for the MBA, confirming 3 years of managerial responsibility.
- Passport-sized photograph: Recent, meeting UK immigration photograph rules.
- Financial proof (visa stage): Bank statements covering tuition and £10,539 (₹13.61 Lakhs) maintenance for 9 months held for 28 consecutive days.
Uploads on the Napier portal accept PDF or JPG up to 5 MB per file. Documents in a language other than English need a certified translation.
Edinburgh Napier University Acceptance Rate
Edinburgh Napier University does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. External estimates place the overall rate in the 60 to 80 percent range, based on Napier’s status as a modern, access-oriented university that admits most applicants who meet its stated academic thresholds, but the figure varies sharply by course.
Edinburgh Napier University Competitive vs Open Programs
Programs like MSc Cyber Security, MSc Nursing, and the MBA operate under capped cohorts and run competitive selection, especially late in a cycle once CAS letters approach the international quota. Mainstream MSc business and computing streams remain more open, with most Indian applicants meeting the 55 percent floor receiving offers within two weeks.
Edinburgh Napier University Ranking Signals for Indian Applicants
Napier sits in the QS World 801-850 band for 2027 and QS UK #62. In THE, Napier is UK #33 and World #601-800 for 2026, with Education Studies and Psychology sitting at #301-400 in subject tables. The 2021 Research Excellence Framework rated 70 percent of Napier’s research as internationally excellent or world-leading. Full ranking band details cover subject-level positions and REF context.
Insider note: Napier’s acceptance patterns skew heavily toward applicants who submit clean, complete files in the first half of the cycle. Late applicants against capped programs, even meeting all thresholds, can face waitlist decisions rather than offers.
United Kingdom Student Visa Process for Napier Applicants
Indian students heading to Edinburgh Napier University apply for the UK Student visa (previously called the Tier 4 route). The visa is filed online at gov.uk after receiving a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) reference from Napier. Applications open up to 6 months before the course start date, with a decision usually issued within 3 weeks for straightforward files.
The application charges a £524 (₹6.77 Lakhs excluding IHS) visa fee plus the Immigration Health Surcharge at £776 (₹1.00 Lakh) per year of study. Financial proof for a course in Edinburgh must show tuition for the first year plus £10,539 (₹13.61 Lakhs) maintenance (9 months at £1,023 per month for cities outside London), held in a qualifying account for 28 consecutive days. On arrival, students collect the Biometric Residence Permit within 10 days and register with a Scottish GP.
2026 update: The UK Home Office continues to allow the two-year Graduate Route post-study visa after a Napier degree. Doctoral graduates receive three years. This route is the biggest single reason Indian applicants pick Napier over EU alternatives at similar tuition.
Tips and Checklist for Edinburgh Napier University
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Edinburgh Napier University for the 2027 cycle. Combine the timeline steps with the shortlist checks below to protect your CAS and visa timeline.
- Book IELTS early or claim the waiver by month 3. Napier accepts Class XII English at 70 percent for UG or a degree taught in English for PG. Claiming the waiver on the application form saves a test slot.
- Request transcripts 8 weeks before applying. Indian universities often take 4 to 6 weeks to issue certified transcripts, delay hurts your CAS calendar.
- Target the 1 December 2026 personal window for September 2027. Filing at this point leaves room for a February offer, March deposit, and April CAS.
- Do not chase the May intake as an Indian applicant. May is part-time only, so it does not carry a Student visa.
- Confirm CAS in writing before the deposit. Deposit is refundable minus £500 (₹64,595) if the visa is refused for a documented reason.
- Complete the ATAS check (if required) 5 to 6 weeks before visa filing. Some MSc Cyber Security and Engineering streams need an ATAS certificate.
- Hold the £10,539 (₹13.61 Lakhs) maintenance funds for a full 28 days. Statements less than 28 days old are the most common visa refusal reason.
- Contact the India office in Hyderabad for in-person queries. Napier’s India office at Begumpet handles pre-application support in English and Hindi.
Edinburgh Napier University treats Indian applicants as a strategic recruitment group, so admissions turnaround is fast for clean files. The single biggest lever on outcome is timing: submit early, protect the visa buffer, and use the English waiver where you qualify. The primary September 2027 intake is open now, and the January 2027 intake still accepts applications with an October cut-off for visa safety.

- Best in the UK for Publishing, Journalism and Public relations and it showed. (2021, The Guardian)
- We were encouraged to find internships and placements from early on. I eventually ended up with 3 different internships and a paid placement which went on for a year and proved critically important in my career.
- The placement cell is very supportive. They really go extra lengths to. prepare you for interviews, review your CVs and make sure you are prepared before applying or appearing for the interview. They also kept a check on the quality of placements and kept asking us if we were learning enough in our placements and if our goals are being met by the company. It made us feel like they were on our side (this I believe is very critical when you are in a foreign country with no safety nets or support system nearby)
Dislikes
- I wish there was a proper mixer for our class or department. There wasn't one. We didn't get to network enough with our classmates. (also because classes were hybrid due to covid but still we were going to campus every week or alternate week for impersonal classes)
- Our classroom was not very diverse.
- My dissertation supervisor wasn't supportive and she would miss critical meetings without a notice. That was very stressful.
Scholarship
- Yes. Saltire Scholarship. I got 8,000 quid as a scholarship. The Saltire Scheme offers £8,000 towards the cost of tuition fees for one year of your postgraduate Master's course.
- As an international student, I was required to make a pre-payment deposit of £3,500 to Edinburgh Napier in order to secure my place on the course. After the payment, my final Confirmation of Acceptance for Study (CAS) was issued.

- Loved the atmosphere and the vibe they created for studying at the college.
- Also the infrastructure with a medieval and modern infrastructure mixed in.
Likes
- I loved how we had more discussions in class.
- This helped me to interact more and obtain a better understanding of people' perspectives on the topic.
- It helped me broaden my understanding on the subject.
Dislikes
- Firstly they told we will provide placements but no placements
Overview
I chose this college since I was able to explore so many things about the place and the value given for this course in that country and how well I can stand up for this when I finish and get into work with this valuable certificate. The education system is completely different since it’s only workshops and practicals and Theories are just not the way of teaching. Communication between the upper-level management to the students also was pretty good
Scholarship
Yes, I had received 10% overseas scholarship that is given to all the overseas students by our Napier university
