Edinburgh Napier University Application Deadlines
Edinburgh Napier University runs a rolling admissions model for postgraduate courses across its two main intakes, September (Semester 1) and January (Semester 2), with some part-time courses starting in May. Undergraduate applicants apply through UCAS on its fixed calendar. Dates below reflect the intake timing published on Napier’s official postgraduate application-timing page, along with the UCAS undergraduate cycle.
Edinburgh Napier University’s primary intake for Indian students is September (Semester 1). Most bachelor’s and master’s programmes open here. No application fee is charged for direct postgraduate applications; UCAS charges its own registration fee for undergraduate applicants.
| Intake | Level | Applications Open | Deadline | Portal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| September 2026 (Primary intake) | Postgraduate taught | Open (rolling) | Realistic cut-off 15 August 2026 | Napier online portal |
| September 2026 | Undergraduate | UCAS main deadline 14 January 2026 (Closed); Clearing open | UCAS Clearing until early September 2026 | UCAS |
| January 2027 | Postgraduate taught | Open (rolling) | Realistic cut-off 15 November 2026 | Napier online portal |
| September 2027 | Undergraduate | 3 September 2026 (UCAS opens) | 13 January 2027 (UCAS equal-consideration) | UCAS |
| May 2027 | Selected part-time PG | Open (rolling) | Approximately 8 weeks before start | Napier online portal |
Napier’s Admissions Team typically responds within two weeks of a complete application. Applying early inside a rolling cycle materially raises the chance of a CAS being issued in time for a UK Student visa, so target the "realistic cut-off" dates rather than the intake start month.
Planning note: UK Student visa processing from India averages three weeks after CAS, and biometric slots at VFS can be booked out. Apply at least 12 weeks before your programme start date.
Edinburgh Napier University Eligibility for Indian Students
Edinburgh Napier University is an access-oriented modern Scottish university, meaning it admits most applicants who meet its stated academic and English requirements without a separate interview stage for taught programmes. Indian applicants are assessed against country-specific benchmarks published on the official India entry-requirements page.
Academic Thresholds
The floors Napier expects from Indian applicants sit slightly below UK-comparable norms, especially at postgraduate level, and Class XII marks are read across CBSE, CISCE, and State boards without discrimination.
- UG general entry: Class XII at 60 percent or above, all Indian boards accepted.
- UG advanced entry (Year 2): Class XII at 75 percent or above, subject-specific.
- PG general entry: Bachelor’s degree at 55 percent or above in any discipline.
- MSc Computing (Professional Placement): Bachelor’s at 60 percent or above.
- Research degrees: Master’s or a strong bachelor’s honours (UK 2:1 equivalent, roughly 65 percent in India).
Accepted English Tests and Floors
For all taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, Napier accepts a wide test menu. The floors below apply unless a specific programme (nursing, health, doctoral) lists a higher requirement.
- IELTS Academic: 6.0 overall, minimum 5.5 per component; One Skill Retake permitted within 60 days.
- TOEFL iBT: 80 overall (L17, R18, S20, W17).
- PTE Academic: 59 overall, minimum 59 per component.
- Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: 169 overall (162 per component).
- Trinity ISE II: 90 overall (80 per skill).
- Research degrees: IELTS 6.5 (6.0 per component) or TOEFL iBT 88.
Edinburgh Napier IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
Napier publishes two India-specific English-language waivers on its official entry-requirements page, both of which are widely under-used because most agents route students straight to IELTS by default.
- Undergraduate waiver: 70 percent or above in English in the Class XII HSC (10+2), subject to State-board recognition.
- Postgraduate waiver: A bachelor’s degree taught and examined in English, completed within the last 2 years, satisfies the requirement. If the degree finished 2 to 5 years ago, 65 percent in Class XII English is accepted.
Insider note: If your Class XII English mark clears 70 percent and your board is CBSE, CISCE, or a mainstream State board, ask the admissions team in writing whether you can skip IELTS. The waiver is officially published and Indian students routinely qualify but rarely claim it.
Edinburgh Napier University Postgraduate Programs
Napier offers over 160 taught postgraduate programmes across computing, business, engineering, creative industries, and social sciences. Most are one year full-time from September, or 18 months full-time from January with a three-month summer break. Base tuition for popular master’s programmes sits in the £20,540 to £22,290 band (INR 26.25 to INR 28.49 Lakhs) per year for 2026-27, with the two-year MBA priced considerably lower. See the full course-wise fees breakdown for the complete list.

Programme placement, dissertation, and industry-linked projects are common at the master’s level and count toward the total credits shown.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Edinburgh Napier India entry-requirements page for your chosen program before applying.
Edinburgh Napier University Undergraduate Programs
Undergraduate courses are almost entirely September start and follow the Scottish four-year honours pattern. Indian Class XII holders enter Year 1 with 60 percent or above, and stronger 75 percent-plus profiles are considered for direct entry to Year 2 in matching subject areas. Base tuition ranges from £18,220 to £21,120 (INR 23.29 to INR 26.99 Lakhs) per year for 2026-27, depending on faculty.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| BSc/BSc (Hons) Computer Science | 4 years (September) | Class XII at 60 percent or above with Mathematics studied through Class XII | IELTS 6.0 (5.5 per component) |
| BEng/BEng (Hons) Computing | 4 years (September) | Class XII at 60 percent or above with Mathematics studied through Class XII | IELTS 6.0 (5.5 per component) |
| BA (Hons) International Business Management | 4 years (September) | Class XII at 60 percent or above in any stream | IELTS 6.0 (5.5 per component) |
All bachelor’s courses are applied via UCAS using Napier’s institution code E59. A personal statement, one academic reference, and Class X plus Class XII transcripts are submitted through the UCAS platform, with English proof uploaded during the offer stage.
Edinburgh Napier University MBA Admissions
Napier’s flagship MBA is the MBA (Business Leadership and Practice), a full-time two-year programme designed for early-career professionals. It runs across September and January intakes, with an entry threshold of a bachelor’s honours degree at UK 2:2 or above (roughly 55 percent Indian equivalent) in any discipline. Base tuition is £12,330 (around INR 15.76 Lakhs) per year, which is materially below the typical UK MBA fee band.
Napier MBA Entry Rules for Indian Applicants
The MBA does not ask for GMAT or GRE and does not run a formal admissions round system. Applications are assessed rolling, with a personal statement and a CV that highlight academic performance and any relevant work exposure.
- Academic floor: Bachelor’s honours at 55 percent or above in any discipline.
- Work experience: Not mandatory, but relevant experience helps borderline profiles.
- English: IELTS 6.0 (5.5 per component) or an accepted alternative.
- Interview stage: No formal interview for admission; academic references and personal statement drive the decision.
- Excluded profiles: Applicants already holding a Master’s in Business Administration or Management are not considered.
Key insight: At £12,330 a year, the Napier MBA sits closer to a taught MSc fee than a mainstream UK MBA. Two-year duration also means Indian graduates qualify for the full 24-month UK Graduate Route post-study work visa.
Edinburgh Napier University PhD Admissions
Napier’s Doctoral College accepts PhD, professional doctorate (DBA), and MRes candidates on a rolling basis, either against advertised studentships or through self-proposed research topics. The academic floor is a UK master’s degree or an honours bachelor’s at UK 2:1 level (about 65 percent Indian equivalent), with a strong alignment between the candidate’s proposal and a named supervisor’s expertise.
Research Application Steps
Applying for a research degree is a two-track process. Advertised studentships come with fixed deadlines and topics, while self-funded or self-proposed applications are open year-round.
- Identify a supervisor via Napier’s staff research pages and email a short research summary before applying.
- Submit a 1,500-word research proposal, CV, transcripts, and two academic references through the Doctoral College portal.
- Shortlisted candidates are interviewed online by the proposed supervisor and a second panel member.
- Offers include a conditional CAS for the UK Student visa once English proof and funding are in place.
Funding for Indian PhD Applicants
Fully funded PhD studentships in the School of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment cover international fees and a stipend at the UKRI national minimum doctoral rate (which was £19,237, or around INR 24.59 Lakhs, for the 2024-25 academic year and increases annually with UKRI’s uplift). Self-funded routes may be co-supported by scholarships or industry sponsorship. Detailed funding pathways are covered separately in the Scholarships silo.
Edinburgh Napier University Application Process
The application process differs by level. Undergraduate applicants use UCAS, while postgraduate and research applicants apply directly on the Napier course page. Indian applicants can also route through Napier’s South Asia Office in Hyderabad for hand-holding on documents and interviews.
- Select your course and check entry rules on the Napier course page or the India entry-requirements page.
- Prepare your documents: transcripts, degree certificate or provisional letter, English proof, passport, statement of purpose, and academic references.
- Submit your application on the Napier online postgraduate portal for master’s or via UCAS for bachelor’s. No application fee is charged by Napier for postgraduate submissions.
- Receive a decision within about two weeks of a complete file. Conditional offers list the exact IELTS and academic conditions to satisfy.
- Accept your offer, pay the deposit of £6,000 (around INR 7.67 Lakhs) and receive your CAS for the UK Student visa.
Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline
Offers are issued as a formal PDF and specify all conditions. Conditional offers convert to unconditional only after Napier receives certified transcripts, degree certificate, and an accepted English test score. Deferral to the next intake is permitted once, subject to programme availability.
Documents Required for Edinburgh Napier University Admissions
Napier accepts scanned copies at application stage, but originals or certified copies are needed at enrolment. Indian applicants should notarise translations where original documents are in a language other than English. All paperwork is uploaded via the Napier portal or UCAS platform.
- Passport bio-page valid for at least the length of the course plus six months.
- Certified transcripts for Class X, Class XII, and any bachelor’s or master’s degree.
- Degree certificate or a provisional completion letter from the awarding institution.
- English test score report (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or equivalent) unless a waiver applies.
- Statement of purpose or personal statement explaining programme fit and career intent.
- One or two academic references on institutional letterhead (two for research degrees).
- Curriculum vitae or resume covering education, work, and any research or projects.
- Work-experience letters if claiming professional exposure toward eligibility.
- Financial proof at CAS stage: bank statements or education loan sanction covering fees plus living costs.
Edinburgh Napier University Acceptance Rate
Edinburgh Napier does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Independent estimates and applicant-forum data suggest an overall admit rate of around 45 to 55 percent, based on its access-oriented modern university profile, wide subject coverage, and the fact that UCAS Extra and Clearing remain open through the undergraduate cycle.
How Selective Is Edinburgh Napier?
Selectivity varies by subject. Computing, cyber security, and business courses see the highest Indian volume and see stricter matching of English scores and bachelor’s disciplines. Nursing and health programmes carry additional professional-body checks. The wider QS World Ranking 851 to 900 band Napier sits in reflects a research-active but not elite institution. The published ranking band puts it in the same tier as many mid-range UK universities that Indian graduates use as a route into the UK Graduate visa.
Fit for Indian Applicants
Indian students who clear the Class XII 60 percent or bachelor’s 55 percent thresholds with clean IELTS 6.0 have historically had a strong success rate for offers. Under-preparation on English or missing the primary intake are the two most common rejection triggers, more than academic gaps.
UK Student Visa for Edinburgh Napier University Admissions
Indian applicants accepted at Edinburgh Napier University apply for the UK Student visa (formerly Tier 4) once they hold a CAS from the university. The CAS is issued after deposit payment and receipt of all conditional-offer documents, typically 8 to 12 weeks before the programme start date. The visa application is filed online at the UK government portal and biometrics are enrolled at a VFS Global centre in India.
Financial proof required is £1,171 (around INR 1.50 Lakhs) per month for up to nine months, giving a total of £10,539 (around INR 13.47 Lakhs) held in a personal or parental account for 28 continuous days. Applicants also pay the Immigration Health Surcharge and the visa application fee at submission. Average processing time from India is three working weeks, with priority services available at extra cost.
2026 update: Indian graduates of full two-year masters or the MBA at Napier still qualify for the full 24-month UK Graduate Route post-study work visa. One-year masters graduates receive 24 months as well under current UKVI rules.
Tips for Edinburgh Napier University Admissions
The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Edinburgh Napier University and address the choices that most affect offer timing and visa readiness.
- Anchor to September: the primary intake carries the widest programme choice and cleanest visa timeline.
- Claim your English waiver in writing if your Class XII English marks clear 70 percent; it saves an IELTS attempt and INR 15,000-plus.
- Apply by mid-August for September starts to give Napier’s two-week decision window plus three-week visa processing enough runway.
- Use the Hyderabad South Asia Office for document checks; they respond in one to two working days.
- Pay the £6,000 deposit (INR 7.67 Lakhs) early to secure your CAS and unlock the £500 early-payment discount if paid 30 days before matriculation.
- Consider advanced entry to Year 2 if your Class XII is 75 percent-plus in a matching subject; it cuts one year of tuition and living cost.

- Best in the UK for Publishing, Journalism and Public relations and it showed. (2021, The Guardian)
- We were encouraged to find internships and placements from early on. I eventually ended up with 3 different internships and a paid placement which went on for a year and proved critically important in my career.
- The placement cell is very supportive. They really go extra lengths to. prepare you for interviews, review your CVs and make sure you are prepared before applying or appearing for the interview. They also kept a check on the quality of placements and kept asking us if we were learning enough in our placements and if our goals are being met by the company. It made us feel like they were on our side (this I believe is very critical when you are in a foreign country with no safety nets or support system nearby)
Dislikes
- I wish there was a proper mixer for our class or department. There wasn't one. We didn't get to network enough with our classmates. (also because classes were hybrid due to covid but still we were going to campus every week or alternate week for impersonal classes)
- Our classroom was not very diverse.
- My dissertation supervisor wasn't supportive and she would miss critical meetings without a notice. That was very stressful.
Scholarship
- Yes. Saltire Scholarship. I got 8,000 quid as a scholarship. The Saltire Scheme offers £8,000 towards the cost of tuition fees for one year of your postgraduate Master's course.
- As an international student, I was required to make a pre-payment deposit of £3,500 to Edinburgh Napier in order to secure my place on the course. After the payment, my final Confirmation of Acceptance for Study (CAS) was issued.

- I loved how we had more discussions in class.
- This helped me to interact more and obtain a better understanding of people' perspectives on the topic.
- It helped me broaden my understanding on the subject.
Dislikes
- Firstly they told we will provide placements but no placements
Overview
I chose this college since I was able to explore so many things about the place and the value given for this course in that country and how well I can stand up for this when I finish and get into work with this valuable certificate. The education system is completely different since it’s only workshops and practicals and Theories are just not the way of teaching. Communication between the upper-level management to the students also was pretty good
Scholarship
Yes, I had received 10% overseas scholarship that is given to all the overseas students by our Napier university
