Sunderland’s MBA is a taught one-year full-time program at Sunderland and London campuses, priced at GBP 20,000 (INR 25.74 Lakhs) for the 2026-27 cycle. It is offered under a general management format with a dissertation stream in the final semester.

Sunderland MBA Eligibility for Indian Applicants

  • Recognised Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with 50%+ aggregate.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of full-time post-degree work experience.
  • No GMAT or GRE required from Indian applicants.
  • IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0.

Sunderland MBA Rounds and Interview

The MBA runs on rolling intake for September and January. Shortlisted applicants attend a competency-based interview by video, usually within 2 to 3 weeks of application submission. There are no fixed rounds; a strong SOP and detailed CV weigh most in the initial screen.

Insider note: Applicants without the 2-year experience floor can be considered under Sunderland’s Executive Entry route if their role shows measurable leadership responsibility.

University of Sunderland Sunderland PhD and Research Application

Sunderland admits PhD candidates across all four faculties, with strong research clusters in automotive engineering, glass and ceramics, public health, and media education. PhD applications run outside the taught cycle and are supervisor-led rather than round-based.

Sunderland PhD Eligibility and Structure

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field with a Merit or Distinction grade.
  • A 2,000 to 3,000-word research proposal aligned to a faculty theme.
  • IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0.
  • Duration: 3 years full-time or 6 years part-time.

Sunderland PhD Funding for Indian Scholars

A small number of doctoral studentships are advertised per academic year, typically covering tuition and a stipend at UKRI rates. Self-funded applicants also apply for the Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship. See funding for Indian students for the full list.

University of Sunderland Sunderland Application Process

The process differs by level: UG runs through UCAS using code S84; PG and research go direct through the university’s myApplication portal on evision.sunderland.ac.uk. Both paths use the same academic and English thresholds set out in the Eligibility section.

  1. Register on the correct portal — UCAS for UG (fee payable to UCAS), or myApplication for PG and PhD with no application fee charged by Sunderland.
  2. Upload academic transcripts, mark sheets, English test score and passport bio-page in PDF.
  3. Add a personal statement or SOP tailored to the specific course.
  4. Provide one academic reference (UG) or two references (PG and research).
  5. Track the application via portal; conditional offers usually issue in 2 to 4 weeks.
  6. Accept the offer, pay the GBP 3,500 (INR 4.50 Lakhs) tuition deposit and request a CAS.

Insider note: Sunderland’s admissions team accepts predicted results for Class XII from Indian schools, so students can apply during Class XII rather than after boards.

Documents Required for University of Sunderland Sunderland

The paperwork list is the same for UG and PG barring the reference count and CV requirement. Scanned colour PDFs are accepted for the application; certified copies are required only after arrival for enrolment.

  • Passport bio-page valid for the full duration of the program.
  • Class X and XII mark sheets plus the passing certificate.
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate and consolidated transcript for PG applicants.
  • English test score report (IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE or Duolingo).
  • Personal Statement or Statement of Purpose tailored to the course.
  • Academic references — 1 for UG, 2 for PG and research.
  • Updated CV for PG, MBA and PhD applicants.
  • Work experience letters for MBA and Executive Entry candidates.
  • Financial proof covering tuition plus 9 months of maintenance for the CAS.

Planning note: Get transcripts stamped by the university registrar and translate any regional-language certificates before you begin the application — reissue can take 3 to 4 weeks in India.

University of Sunderland Sunderland Acceptance Rate

Sunderland does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Based on its access-oriented admissions model and post-1992 intake patterns, the working estimate for Indian applicants sits at around 64%. A Merit-heavy Bachelor’s transcript with the required IELTS clears most PG offers on the first review.

What drives a Sunderland offer decision?

The main levers are academic percentage, relevance of prior study, and the SOP fit to the course. English score below the per-band minimum is the single most common cause of a hold or conditional refusal. See the university’s ranking band for context on peer competitiveness.

Sunderland Offer-to-Enrolment Conversion

Indian offer-holders enrol at a rate broadly aligned with the UK international average, with visa refusals as the main leakage point. Detailed year-by-year figures sit in the acceptance rate analysis.

UK Student Visa Process for University of Sunderland Sunderland Applicants

Indian applicants need the UK Student Visa (Route: Student, formerly Tier 4). Apply online at gov.uk up to 6 months before the course start date and book biometrics at your local VFS Global centre. Sunderland issues the electronic Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) after the tuition deposit is paid.

The visa application fee from India is around GBP 524 (INR 67,428) plus the Immigration Health Surcharge at GBP 776 (INR 99,856) per year of study. Financial proof must cover tuition plus GBP 9,207 (INR 11.85 Lakhs) for 9 months of living costs outside London, or GBP 12,006 (INR 15.45 Lakhs) for the Sunderland-run London Canary Wharf campus. Held funds must sit in a qualifying account for a continuous 28 days before submission.

2026 update: The UK’s Graduate Route stays open at 2 years post-study work (3 for PhD) for cohorts starting under Sunderland’s September 2026 and 2027 intakes.

Tips and Application Checklist for University of Sunderland Sunderland

The following tips and steps are drawn from patterns seen in successful Indian applications to Sunderland’s September and January intakes.

  • Apply 6 months out: The Class XII 70% English waiver saves an IELTS retake if applied for early.
  • Book IELTS by month T-5: Score reports take 13 days; buffer another 2 weeks for waivers.
  • Request transcripts at T-8 weeks: Indian university registrars can take 3 to 4 weeks to reissue.
  • Tailor the SOP: Name the specific module cluster and a Sunderland faculty member’s research where relevant.
  • Pay deposit within 4 weeks of CAS request: Slots for popular MSc Nursing and MSc Data Science close early.
  • Fund the account by T-10 weeks: The 28-day rule triggers from the day funds first appear.
  • Book biometrics as soon as CAS lands: VFS Global slots in tier-1 Indian cities fill 3 weeks out.
  • Complete pre-CAS interview: A short credibility call by Sunderland’s international office precedes CAS.

Applying to Sunderland works well when you treat it as a 6-month planning window rather than a last-minute sprint. Line up the IELTS, transcripts, financial proof and SOP by the primary September intake’s UCAS or myApplication deadline and the rest — offer, deposit, CAS, visa — usually rolls without friction.

Overview

My teacher at the college suggested this university for me. I knew that teachers were helpful, and because when I was young I had many difficulties succeeding with my studies, I thought that I should choose a university that was not too demanding and supportive. When I started at the University of Sunderland in London, I was impressed by the various activities the institution offered. Also, the university has many departments for students to help them with various enquiries and assistance. For example, one of them is the department of health and well-being. The university engages in many activities such as conferences, trips, and events. Many societies organised by students with the help of the university deliver many activities that provide a better social environment. In fact, the tourism and travel society organises trips for students across the UK and abroad. Also, sports societies are available at the university, such as a dance club, swimming, football, and more, for active students. So far, being a student at the University of Sunderland in London has been a unique experience! The institution collaborates with the University of Sunderland in Hong Kong. The university is definitely multicultural. I made many friends, starting from Indians and Asians to Europeans, Africans, and South Americans. There are many employment events where students can meet potential employers for opportunities such as internships and work experience with important companies.

I applied with a UK student finance loan.
