Bath University - The reason I was not selected to rejected universities as I have arts background in my bachelor program and they wanted commerce background for marketing course.
- I chose the University of Birmingham for its strong reputation and marketing curriculum. It is globally ranked 46 for its marketing course and is a Russel group university which makes it even more renowned in the United Kingdom. The alumni of the university are very rich and strong, who are working with or have established themselves at the top in this competitive market. The university also required basic requirements to get it, making it easy for me as an international student.
- I applied for September 2024 intake
- I started my preparation in January with Leverage edu who helped me with the entire process.
- I applied in February for the university and received conditional offer in March to fulfill certain conditions
- I filled them by May and decided to go ahead with University of Birmingham after thorough evaluation
- Good 3 months to fix my university and then rest two months for other stuff like accommodation, visa and all
Faculty
- Faculties utilise case studies and articles while teaching. Lectures are scheduled 4 times a week and the faculties are also very supportive who offer and provide a variety of resources ahead of deadlines.
- The faculty-to-student ratio is around 1:15, allowing for personalised attention and meaningful interactions with professors. Teaching method is a blend of case studies, powerpoint presentations, group projects, seminars and normal lectures. Faculty members are approachable and offer valuable insights to support career development.
Campus Life
- My university has two campus one in Dubai and one in England.
- Library, cafés, bus service, train station, sports, events and entertainment every service is available in the campus.
- There are more than 150 societies for students to join
- Guild of students hosts couple of events and festivals every year for students
- Every week you’ll receive notification of events being hosted in the college
Part Time Jobs
- The university is run by Guild of Students, a committee for students and they offer a variety of part time roles within the campus. A work link is provided to all students to access and check current openings in the university. We also receive daily emails from the university for open roles in the campus and outside campus. Birmingham is the second largest city in the UK which provides various part time opportunities for international students with good page range. Securing on-campus part-time jobs can be competitive, especially for popular roles, but it’s manageable with proactive applications and strong campus involvement.
- Students typically earn around £12 pounds hourly that’s minimum wage. Also initially it’s difficult to score part time at least for first three months for international students its difficult to . But Christmas season has openings for part time. Also use apps like handshake, reed, indeed, LinkedIn to grow networks, and keep applying rigorously to secure one job. Highly recommend to do one month unpaid internship for two months to secure UK experience. Also one should have to complete right to study to secure a job.
Placement
- Around 80-85% of students in my graduating batch secure employment within six months of completing the MSc Marketing course. The average salary range upon graduation is typically between £30,000-£40,000, depending on the role and company. Marketing has a good demand and thus availability of jobs is also there.
- Many students find jobs via networking events, job affairs hosted in university, through online platforms. UOB also provides students with CV templates and cover letters helping them land a job in the United Kingdom. There are jobs available in all sectors, its all about building your portfolio, lifting their skills and building strong networks to land a secure full time job.
Accommodation
- I opted for student accommodation outside campus so that I could travel easily to city for jobs since my university is in outskirts of the Birmingham city.
- My agent helped me find this accommodation and also alumni of the university recommended Belgrave view accommodation. My weekly rent is 154 including electricity and water maintenance. We have to pay in two installments.
- My accommodation is 30 minute walkable distance from university and 15 minutes via bus. One of the best places to stay if you choose University of Birmingham
Exams
- I took the IELTS for my MSc Marketing course, though other programs at the University of Birmingham may require specific exams, which can sometimes be waived depending on course criteria.
- Being a Russell Group university, they only conduct interviews for certain rare courses, so I didn’t have an interview round as part of my admission process for this course.
Fees
- My fees is 30,330 pounds in total including 2000 pounds deposit to secure seat and the remaining fee to be paid was 28,330
- I was late to receive scholarship but university has couple of scholarships for international students
- We also have yearly and quarterly installment pay options but with certain percentage of interest.
- I chose a student accommodation which is 15 mins away from the university via bus and 15 mins away from Birmingham city via bus. The accommodation cost is closely upto 7 lacks that I paid in two installments.
- We get 2 month free bus pass from university for initial days and grocery also doesn’t cost much if you share and buy.
