Course Curriculum

6

  • It is a good university and the subject is advanced statistics-related, which is fundamental to ML. My course was completely theoretical, except in the end, the master's thesis is a practical experiment at the end of the programme that carries a lot of weightage to the course.
  • Negative aspect is that the mathematical foundation was not well taught and it was the most difficult subject out of the entire course. There are three classes a week. In the afternoon. 20 people in one class. There are quite a few indians.

Admission Experience

  • Applied to Australian universities and got accepted, but 2 years is expensive in the country. I have got acceptance from Melbourne, Monash, and UNSW. UoB can be completed in a year and it was a lesser cost compared to the others. Did not get admission in 2 American universities. I did not write my GRE but I am happy because the situation is really bad for immigrants in that country.
  • It is a good university and the subject is advanced statistics-related, which is fundamental to ML. I had emailed the professors prior to the admission and they were very responsive. I had written my IELTS and received an 8/9. There are other requirements like Letter of recommendation, a statement of purpose and a resume. This led to the admission. The management is responsible, in my experience.
  • I applied for the fall intake, which started at september 2023. I want to upgrade my career as I was a software engineer and I wanted to be proficient in AI and ML. I applied in December 2022 and I received a response in March 2023. I had received the scholarship with march 2023 response; it did not require a separate application. The admission process is smooth. The finance and management team is cooperative.

Faculty

6

  • Faculty to student ratio is fair but they are not fully approachable, as they take other classes. The teaching methodology differs from each professor. There are some who give exercises every other day, some rely on reading textbooks they prefer and so on. The faculty will help if you have good grades in their classes and are active in academic clubs like the ACM student club or hackathons.
  • I admire the professor where I was a teaching assistant. He is very helpful.

Campus Life

10

  • It is a good university and the subject is advanced statistics-related, which is fundamental to ML. I had emailed the professors prior to the admission and they were very responsive. Part Time Jobs

  • It is very rare; each professor may take 2-3 subjects and they prefer the same students the chances of getting a TA job is hard but it is worth it and I received 20 GBP per hour. If you are a good TA or RA you will get an award and an additional 2200 GBP. You can find other on-campus jobs in the portal or you can work blue-collar jobs. It's very competitive since it is a prestigious university.
  • University jobs like teaching assistant or research assistant are available but not for everyone. To gain some income you need to be excellent in your studies and only then can you get this job. There are full scholarships as well they are awarded to 3-5 students in the entire MSc program. I received the TA job as I was getting good scores and talked to my professors. You have to get excellent scores in your previous institution and a great score in IELTs/TOEFL. I was awarded Chancellor’s academic scholarship which gives a discount in tuition. It was a 40% scholarship for me in 2023, not sure about the scholarship now. The change every year please check out the scholarship website to know about this.

Placement

2

  • I did not receive any offers after completion. I am still looking for a job and I have moved back to India. The alumni are not helpful. It’s hard to get a job in the current climate. It’s been a while and I got a data science internship through LinkedIn. It is very hard otherwise to find a full-time job. There is a portal and a consultant in the university.
  • The consultant was not very helpful and it is a collective opinion. The careers website had limited options and they were not helpful. I had also talked to the alumni members again, not a great sign of help but since the current issue is with job loss and exceeding requirements, it will be tough to apply and get a job.

Accommodation

Off Campus
4

  • There is outside accommodation. I stayed with my relatives. Although I heard the university will help to find accommodation through student services. They will guide you through the procedure and payment. There are quite a few challenges if you stay in student accommodation, as it is expensive.
  • I did not pay any rent. If you have a friend, you do not need to find roommates. My place is far. I took a bus or someone dropped me off. It is best to find the outskirts since it is expensive nearby the university.

Exams

  • I had written my IELTS and received an 8/9. There are other requirements like Letter of recommendation, statement of purpose and resume. This led to the admission. The management is responsible in my experience. Interview will be taken if you want the full scholarship and not for the partial scholarship. The statement of purpose should be maximum of 1 page.

Fees

  • Like I had previously mentioned, the fees can be discounted if you have good academic results in your previous education; otherwise, it’s 13,100 GBP. It can be paid in quarterly instalments, or it can be paid all at once. Paying in instalments is a safer option.
  • Helps students gain some income if they work in between the course. If it’s two years, also called part-time, it is still the same amount

Scholarship

  • I had received the Chancellor’s academic scholarship, which offers you a 40% discount but housing and other expenses will be on your own. We can seek university jobs like teaching assistant or research assistant to gain some income you need to be excellent in your studies and only then can you get this job. There are full scholarships as well; they are awarded to 3-5 students.
