Course Curriculum

10

  • I have completed my Chartered Accountancy course so I personally did feel like the course was that tough. It was a good mix of theory and practical explanations .
  • Classes were usually scheduled 3-4 times a week and we had maybe 1-2 lectures in a day .
  • Duration of lectures varied from 1.30 hrs to 3 hours as well and more often than not they had sufficient breaks between them.
  • I think the number of students in my class was around 100. Majority of them were Chinese students. Around 20-25% of the batch were Indian students. But again the class could get smaller in the 2nd term where we had optional subjects to choose and certain other batches were mixed during lectures.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to 4 colleges- 2 in London and 1 in Birmingham City and 1 in Manchester. I wanted to mainly live in a metro city to feel lively and have a good experience.
  • King's College London: Accepted, Aston University: Accepted, Brunel University: Accepted very quickly. I got a direct rejection from University of Manchester and when I inquired for the reason they informed me it was due to not having Maths as a subject in my Graduation Degree.
  • I chose King’s college mainly because of the reputation and ranking of the college which I thought could help me land a job.
  • Admission process involved direct application along with SOP and reference letters. After a lot of time I got the offer letter. IELTS Score was the base criteria. Bachelor scores or grades were considered but the overall profile of academics and work experience can be substantial.
  • I took admission for the September intake because it is the main intake where the majority of courses are available and most students join in that intake. The admission process was a bit time consuming for me. I applied in the last week of March which was the deadline for application submission. There was some confusion regarding my official registered name as per the documents and certificates which took some time for clarification but the response was quick once those issues were cleared.

Faculty

8

  • Some professors like Mr. MANUEL RODRIGUES (professor for credit risk) stood out and were by far the best and most fun.
  • The teaching methodology mainly consisted of presentations which can get boring at times.

Campus Life

10

  • My college had 4-5 campuses. Strand campus and Bush house campus are next to each other in an area called Strand itself. Waterloo Campus is at a place called Waterloo.
  • All these 3 are a walking distance of 10 minutes from each other and can be suitable to conduct different lectures throughout the day.
  • Guy's Campus is near London bridge. Denmark Campus is bit far in south london side.
  • There were events like show your traditions/culture. Football matchday events at the pub with just food and drinks.

Part Time Jobs

  • Mine was a business course and I do not know of many teacher assistants as such …mostly the science related courses had teacher assistants so I am not sure of the pay scale as well as I do not have any friends who had more jobs.
  • There are different student committees which hire other students. 20 hours of work is allowed during term time and off term time 40 hours per week is allowed.
  • It can be difficult at times to get a part time job during student influx seasons.
  • Indian students mostly prefer working at a grocery chain or some retail clothes outlets like H&M or simple food joints like Mcdonalds or KFC. The wage rate in London is around 12-13 pounds per hour and if you utilize the complete 20 hour limit per week then you earn around 1000 pounds per month. But landing a part time job during the start of the year is very difficult since a lot of students coming in new start working and some only focused on earning at a part time job rather than their academics.

Placement

6

  • Full time opportunities mainly depend on the stream of studies. Finance through a very popular stream, it is very competitive and difficult to get a job even after 1 year. 90% of my Indian friends could not land a job and had to come back to India because of that reason. Some do land a job but it can be just for the sake of it and not something related to their preference.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I used rental websites like spareroom and zoopla but eventually found an accommodation through an agent from University living.
  • My monthly rent was around 600 pounds and included bills. They had kitchen areas, common halls wherein could watch TV, play at the pool table or simply hangout.
  • The main part of finding an accommodation is the area it is situated in because not knowing much about the city before moving there can be painful and scary to understand the area dynamics.

Exams

  • King's college requires IELTS scores. There was no interview process but certain documents are necessary for submission during the application. Those are graduation marksheets / Transcripts, a statement of purpose is required to be submitted, an academic letter of recommendation is mandatory, a well curated CV is also required and helps make an impression.

Fees

  • So my total fees for the whole year was £35,500. It is payable on a half yearly basis. 1st installment before joining and 2nd installment mid-year.
  • I did not live in the university accommodation which to be honest are a bit more expensive than others but are at prime locations of the city. I was living in a private student accommodation where my rent was £165 per week including bills.
  • Groceries run around £150 a month and travel can be around £100 a month.

Scholarship

  • There are certain scholarships available with their details on the college website. I applied for a normal scholarship.
  • The process involved submitting an essay and expressing need for the scholarship but I was not selected for any of them.
  • I don't know of any friends as well being beneficiaries of such scholarship although they had applied as well.
