Colleges Where I Was Accepted

Reason for choosing my college

  • I chose the University of Central Lancashire for several reasons. It has a well-defined reputation for its well-established reputation for its business school, which offers comprehensive programs with a strong emphasis on practical and professional skills.
  • The university program stood out to me because it is associated with professional placements; giving students valuable industry exposure and enhancing employability.
  • The location played a significant role in my decision, being a Countryside university, it provides a calm and conducive environment for focused learning, which I found appealing.
  • The university also offers excellent student support services and has a vibrant student union that ensures a fulfilling campus experience.
  • Another factor was the diverse and welcoming community. It has a significant number of Indian students making it easier to adapt and feel at home while enjoying the opportunity to network globally.

Colleges Where I Was Rejected

Reason for Rejection

It did not accept my offer, despite charging 40 GBP for the application and failed to provide a clear reason for the rejection. They just mentioned that the seats were full.

Admission Experience

  • My experience at Uclan has been exceptional. The academic reputation, professional placement opportunities, and practical exposure like the launchpad program and presenting the business idea for entrepreneurial skills were key highlights.
  • The university's proximity to Preston City, its welcoming environment, and events like the leadership building residential tour helped me settle quickly and grow personally and professionally.
  • Its career services, job fairs and project-based learning during my placement boosted my confidence and industry knowledge.
  • The support from the staff, especially my course leader and access to well-being and academic services made the journey fulfilling.
  • This holistic experience enriched both my career and personal growth

Class Schedule

7

Classes were based on the credits of the modules. One module had theory and seminar classes. A class of 50 students had 35 Indian students. The Average strength of 15 students per batch for the seminar. Assignment for every module was given, for which a 15-day timeline used to be given to finish it.

Faculty

9

Faculties are so respectful and understanding. One could book an appointment with them to discuss things. The faculty-student ratio was one for every 15. I liked two of my faculty members the most; one was my course leader, who nominated me for the Excellence Merit award, and another was the placement officer, who helped me secure the job.

Campus Life

10

Two campuses were there. One in Cyprus and one in the United Kingdom 24/7 library and medical facilities were there; a Sportscard was given along with a gym and Zumba facilities. Welcome Week Fest, the Indian Cultural Society club, used to organise all the Indian festivals with great joy. The contest for CR and the president of the student union were also there. Regular competitions and networking events used to happen to upskill.

Part Time Jobs

It took me 1 month to land a part-time role. The average pay per hour was the minimum wage, which one could get after registering for a National Insurance card for employment. For me, the minimum wage was 8 GBP per hour. Sometimes, some people choose odd jobs. I started working for the university in the international call centre and started tutoring A-level and GCSE-level students

Student ambassador program and working for the university to support international students can be an option to start with part-time jobs. Pay is the minimum wage. The maximum number of hours is mentioned on the VISA(20 hrs per week). One can join networking events to discuss the opportunity that matches their skillset.

Placement

8

  • Some of the students had good connections, so they tied up with the sponsorship providers for the working opportunity, but for half of the class, it was really difficult to get one.
  • There were many reasons; students used to get rejected, and they used to think that it was a kind of discrimination, but actually, it was a lack of experience and resume formatting errors as per the desired role. Language and accent were the barriers for some.
  • The lowest salary was the minimum wage, and the highest was 14000 to 18000 GBP annually. Only 40% of the class secured a full-time opportunity, and hence, for some of them, it was very difficult to complete the module on professional placement reflection.
  • Later on, for those who could not get the job, the professional placement was changed to complete some mandatory theoretical additional module as part of the credit system completion.
