Admission Experience
-
I had applied for 5 colleges, listed below
1.Kingston University (Admitted)
* Loved the course structure, but was not sure for the location and expense as it was
close to london.
* Also they asked for Portfolio interview and a IELTS qualification.
* Limited scholarship options.2.Birmingham City University (Rejected)
* My first choice, it was perfect in terms of course, living, expenditure and industry
connect of the uni was a addon to the selection.
* They never replied to my application, which led to choose other other.3.University of Central Lancashire ( Admitted, finalised)
* Second choice for my course, most affordable uni, with a great course structure and nice
location.
* Most Scholarship provided
* No need for any portfolio viewing.4.University of Westminster(Admitted)
* Did not find the course structure that relevant.
* Out of my budget5.Regents University (Admitted)
* My last option, with some modules that were relevant to the interest.
* Location was one more consideration.
* Expensive and few scholarships - I chose University of Central Lancashire for my course if Masters in UX Design. My reason to choose this uni is mainly the course structure, the modules were equally divided per semester and were relevant for this industry. Other factors consist of the location, uni is located right in the city center with everything is just a 10 min walk. Affordable living options all around the city and near the uni as well. They also got a lot of Asian students and also a good alumni connect. The point of decision for me was the scholarships provided, uni provided me with 2 scholarships and helped a lot with the financial aspects.
- The admission process was straight forward, with filing applications with the details asked like SOP, LOR, previous qualification. I got a quick reply from this uni and provided me with a direct CAS letter. So to confirm my seat I needed to pay the booking amount. All done, pretty straight forward.
- For my course, they asked for a relevant degree with a minimum qualification 58% in bachelors and minimum english requirement was IELTS 6.5 or 70+marks in 12th boards english subject, I was fortunate enough to get a waiver in english requirement as I socred 70+ in English for my boards, so I was not made to give any IELTS exam.
- Admission process was hassle free
- I applied for september intake, as it was the major intake for my course.
- I had done my application through a councillor agency, so they handled my application, I started applying in the month of february, got my confirmation of selection in the month of march and received my CAS in april.
- After my CAS paid the fees and then enrolled to the course.
Class Schedule
- Each week we had 2 classes 1 in class and 1 online with 4 modules running in the first sem, followed by 3 in the second sem and masters project in the last sem.
- The classes duration were of 2hrs each, be it online or offline.
- We had total of 16 students in our batch, with 10 Indian students including me.
Faculty
- We had 1 faculty (tutor) for each module.
- The teaching method of the faculty is great, they make sure that the concepts are clear and aslo give practice task for better learning, they provide extra materials than the regular ppt for more in-depth learning and understanding of the topic. The course content is sufficient and relevant to get a job in industry.
- They assist in some manner like posting opportunities on the groups and also discuss it as well.
Campus Life
-
There are total of 3 campus for our Uni
Preston ( main campus)
Burnley
and Westlake - In terms of facilities we got sports hall, Library with computer labs, student center for any query, student union for chill and Starbucks and a club called 53degree.
- Almost every festival is celebrated on the campus, regardless of any country.
- Uclan got a lot of sports, you mention they got it
- I have represented UCLan at badminton and cricket.
Part Time Jobs
- I was a masters student so I don't have any idea about TA/RA/DA
- There some uni jobs like student ambassador where you have to help with general quiery of students, help or guide them to required staff member. This job had a process to crack, you need to submit CV, get shortlisted and then appear for face to face interview.
- maximum 20 hours allowed per week for a student, it is easy to get that job but there are lot of students who will be appearing for that role.
- In the UK, they have NI Minimum wage which is based on your age, if you are 21 above you will be pais 11.44 pr/hr, every business owner have to apply this rate to hire employee.
- It is a bit difficult to find part time cause they need experience and expect a lot from you, but when you crack one then it is way easy than you think, you need to manage study accordingly cause your part time will take most of your time. There are several platforms which are used to apply for part time jobs, majorly indeed.
Placement
- 80% of the graduates secure employment after graduation, the avg salary range would start from 24000 GBP per year.
- Student use different services and portals to find jobs. Mainly Linkedin, indeed, handshake and Student Circus.
- I was not enrolled to the placement year batch so I may not be able to share any views over it.
- All the IT companies, or the Banks hire graduates from my programme.
Accommodation
- I used a platform called university living to find accommodation.
- Monthly rate was around 490GBP which included all the bills which included Wifi, water, electricity. Rooms were fully furnished and with proper equipped kitchen.
- Living in that accommodation was one of my best time, I surely recommend it other students to try for student accommodations and choose an En-Suite room.
- My accommodation was 3-4 walk from my university.
Exams
- IELTS with no less than 6.5
- If you are applying for masters then you need your prior qualification transcripts, 2 letter of recommendations one from industry and one from educational background, If you have not worked the both of the letters from your institution, 1 statement of purpose and your CV.
- I was not asked for a interview, but one of my batch mate was asked to clear a portfolio interview round on Microsoft teams where they asked him about his projects, why he wants to perceive this course and why he chose UCLAN for this course. The interview was conducted by the course leader.

-
I was awarded with 4000GBP scholarship
1000 GBP as International Bursary
3000 GBP as franchise scholarship
and last 1000GBP I am not aware of. -
Mostly every international student received the international bursary, also local students had different advantages. I am not aware of those benefits.
