What Students Say?
Likes
- The university is very, very welcoming to international students. They have all the relevant facilities available to make an international student feel at home.
- Manchester as a city is very friendly to Indians (or people of South Asian origin), so you don't feel out of place there.
Dislikes
- For courses in social sciences in particular, there is low placement opportunity. Students must find career opportunities themselves, although many companies keep coming in general to the university on open days.
I chose this particular program for the excellent faculty and their research. I chose the university because it gave a unified university feeling, and not independent colleges/buildings (like we mostly see in London). Overall experience - 10/10. Good faculty, good staff, a very nice city, very nice university building.
Course Curriculum
Industry-relevant curriculum. Very structured, yet can be modified based on the student's requirements and aspirations. Given research experience, but not industrial exposure.
Exams
- The requirements differ basis on the course. For most social sciences courses, only essays and letters of recommendation are required, along with good interest/experience in social sciences. For management courses, a GMAT may be required. - Amity International School, Noida (Uttar Pradesh state): Grade 10: 10 CGPA, Grade 12: 94.2% - Indraprastha College for Women (University of Delhi): BA Political Science: 6.56/10 GPA - University of Manchester: MA International Relations: 7.2/10 GPA - Requirements: Yes, I had to submit SoP, 2 LoRs, and my updated CV. I chose one LoR from an internship and one from my undergrad professor. In the SoP, I wrote my particular UoM, and why that specific course. I mentioned things like the faculty and some societies that were of interest.
Placement
Depends on the field. Management and engineering courses have better placements and better companies coming in. Social sciences and medicine have better research opportunities, including within the university. Median salary is the standard UK salary structure.
Fees
18,000 GBP.
Faculty
Dr. Laura McLeod from the Faculty of Social Sciences - amazing! For my course, on average the Faculty: Student would be around 1:50. Very comfortable to speak to and approachable. Lots to learn from them. They give you 1:1 time as much as you need and ask for.
Campus Life
10/10. All possible facilities available - student unions, country-specific society, amazing extracurriculars, good accommodation.
Hostel
I lived in a university accommodation - UoM has many options. But private student accommodations are equally good. Very comfortable facilities, have various events/evening-time get-togethers. Average rent per month is 500 GBP.
