Required Exams for Admission
It is one of the top Russell Group universities so choosing Manchester over other cities was a no-brainer. My overall experience has been incredibly fulfilling and would recommend the university.
Course Curriculum
Could not recommend enough! There is a variety of projects that you will be a part of and do not shy away from grabbing the bull by its horn. Some courses are harder than others, even though no module is the same and this brings another layer of uniqueness to your academic experience. Since my course was focused on finance, we had some veterans of the industry come to our lectures and describe any recent changes in their landscape. During your bachelor's, there will be an option to take a year in industry, given you can find someone to hire you. This was the most crucial year in my personal opinion to shape my outlook. All in all, the university can only take you so far, it boils down to how you utilize the opportunities presented to you.
Faculty
Our staff is remarkably dedicated to students, always accessible via email or during office hours. My economics professor, who left Cambridge to join us at Manchester, has profoundly impacted my academic journey. He has an exceptional talent for linking complex micro and macro concepts to everyday experiences, making the underlying math behind socio-economic ideas much easier to grasp. Every staff member is highly knowledgeable and willing to explain any concept as many times as needed until it clicks for you.
Campus Life
Great, in every sense. I had a lot of friends from the university housing and everyone's been pleased with their stay to the tee. The friendships, night outs, and other stuff you can imagine that could go down in such situations went down. If you are looking to make friends and have some fun, absolutely join university housing.
Placement
Companies do not come to ANY university in the UK. However, they do have great teams to help you navigate this treacherous and unforeseen environment. I cannot emphasize the importance of joining university societies, you will find many in the same situation as you, and having like-minded people around could foster further encouragement. University of Manchester has a great online depository for job listings but you will scavenge the internet when it comes to finding a role. Our university has more than 46k students, for any stat regarding their placements, go to the internet.
Accommodation
You have the freedom to live however you please. If you prefer sharing a room with someone, you can do that. If you want the privacy of a studio, that's an option too. Admittedly, accommodation here isn't cheap, but working part-time (as most people do) can help you make ends meet. While grocery costs can be high depending on your choices, these challenges shouldn't deter you if your goal is to attain a high-quality education. Rents range from GBP 400 - 700 per month. Of course you can get even higher living costs but this is usually the majority range. I stayed at private accommodations which came out to be relatively cheaper than university housing but only because I had to do a year online, due to COVID.
Exams
- TOEFL: 103/120 - CBSE Class 10th: 82-85% (somewhere around that range), CBSE Class 12th: 94.8% (PCM) - University of Manchester: 2:1 (BSc. Hons. Management) - Requirements: Yes to all of the above. Focus on your SoP as that tells others why you want to join their university. Always make sure to answer these three points in any heavily worded documents: - Why this university and why this course (whatever course you might have chosen) - Why this country - Why you Keep it concise yet impactful. Steer away from using cliches and tacky sentences.
Fees
International students pay 3x when compared to a local/national student. It would be anywhere between GBP 20k-25k per year. Financing your university becomes a must for many students but thankfully there are a lot of options available in your home country. Try to get scholarships if you have something to back it up.
