Loughborough University Application Deadlines for Indian Students
Loughborough runs a September primary intake for both undergraduate (via UCAS) and postgraduate taught programmes, with a smaller January window for select postgraduate courses. Undergraduate decisions are aimed by the end of March each cycle; postgraduate decisions are usually returned in two to four weeks after a complete application, per the Loughborough international applications FAQ. The table below shows what is actionable from today.
Loughborough’s primary intake for Indian students is September — most programmes open here.
| Intake | Level | Applications Open | Deadline | Portal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| September 2026 (Primary intake) | PG Taught | Open now | Rolling; submit ideally by mid-August 2026 | Loughborough application portal |
| October 2026 | PhD (Doctoral) | Open now | Rolling; submit at least 8 weeks before start | Loughborough application portal |
| January 2027 | PG Taught (select programmes) | August 2026 (est.) | Early December 2026 (est.) | Loughborough application portal |
| September 2027 (Primary intake) | UG (UCAS) | 5 September 2026 (est.) | 28 January 2027 (equal consideration, est.) | UCAS (Institution code L79) |
| February 2027 | PhD | Open now | Rolling; submit at least 8 weeks before start | Loughborough application portal |
Planning note: Loughborough operates rolling review for postgraduate taught applications. Waiting until August 2026 for a September 2026 start risks losing your visa-timing buffer — offer, deposit and CAS together typically need six to eight weeks before travel.
Loughborough University Eligibility Requirements for Indian Students
Loughborough sets an institution-wide academic floor and English-language floor, then layers programme-specific overlays (higher percentages or subject prerequisites) via each course page. Indian applicants should read both the university baseline below and their target programme’s own requirements before applying.
Loughborough University Academic Eligibility Overview
- UG general entry: Class XII at 75 percent from CBSE or ISCE; state boards typically need 80 percent.

- PG research (PhD) entry: Master’s or a strong 2:1 Bachelor’s in the relevant discipline, plus a research proposal.
- MBA entry: A 2:2 Bachelor’s (or equivalent) plus minimum three years’ management or professional experience.

Loughborough University IELTS Waiver Pathway for Indian Students
Loughborough does not offer a blanket MOI waiver for Indian students, but it does recognise Indian school-board English performance as an alternative pathway. Applicants who completed CBSE or ISCE Class XII with 75 percent in English can request an English-test waiver on the country-specific requirements route; state-board applicants generally still need IELTS. Loughborough also runs pre-sessional English programmes for offer-holders who fall short of the IELTS floor by 0.5 to 1.0 band.
Insider note: Loughborough will make a conditional offer even before you sit your English test — you can submit your IELTS report later. Do not delay the main application while chasing English scores.

Fully-funded studentships cover 100 percent of tuition and pay a stipend at the UKRI rate of £21,805 (around ₹27.80 Lakhs) per year for the 2025-26 academic year (2026-27 uplift pending), for three years of full-time PhD study. The Sanctuary PhD Scholarships and Commonwealth Scholarships are two open India-relevant routes; the wider funding menu is on the university’s PhD funding page.
Loughborough University PhD Application Process
- Identify a supervisor whose research area matches your proposal, using the school’s staff pages.
- Email a 2 to 4 page proposal plus CV to gauge fit before formal application.
- Apply through the Loughborough application portal with transcripts, references, IELTS report, and proposal.
- Interview and decision follow within 4 to 8 weeks of a complete application.
Planning note: The October 2026 PhD start still has open funded studentships across engineering, sport science and computing. Applications for February 2027 and July 2027 starts are best submitted by November 2026 and April 2027 respectively.
Loughborough University Application Process for Indian Students
Applying to Loughborough is different at the two levels — undergraduate goes through UCAS with a shared personal statement, while postgraduate and doctoral candidates apply directly to the university’s own portal. Application processing is centralised; you do not pay any application fee at either level.
Loughborough University Undergraduate Application Steps
- Register on UCAS from 5 September 2026 for the September 2027 cycle.
- Enter Institution code L79 and pick up to five course choices.
- Submit personal statement, one reference, and predicted or final Class XII scores.
- Pay the UCAS platform fee (£28.50 for one choice or £30 for multiple — this is UCAS’s fee, not Loughborough’s).
- Track offers through UCAS Hub; decisions target end of March 2027.
Loughborough University Postgraduate Application Steps
- Create an account on the Loughborough application portal with the no application fee payable at submission.
- Fill the online form with academic history, target programme and start month.
- Upload transcripts, degree certificate (or provisional), one to two references, personal statement and CV.
- Submit English test report (IELTS/TOEFL/PTE) if already taken; otherwise expect a conditional offer.
- Await a decision within two to four weeks; accept the offer, pay the £2,500 (around ₹3.19 Lakhs) tuition deposit, then request your CAS.
Loughborough University Documents Required for Indian Students
Loughborough asks for a compact document set that varies slightly between undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Scan every document in colour PDF, cap each file at 5 MB, and name files consistently before uploading.
- Passport bio-page: Valid for at least 6 months past your intended start date.
- Class X and Class XII mark-sheets: Certified copies with English translation if regional-language boards.
- Bachelor’s transcripts and degree certificate: For PG applicants; provisional certificate accepted if final not yet issued.
- English test score report: IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo or Cambridge — submitted directly by the test provider where possible.
- Personal statement: UCAS-style for UG, programme-focused (500 to 800 words) for PG.
- References: One academic reference for UCAS UG; one to two academic or professional references for PG.
- CV: Required for PG, especially MBA, where the work-experience letter is also uploaded.
- Research proposal: Required for PhD (2 to 4 pages).
- Passport-size photograph: For visa and CAS stage.
Insider note: Loughborough will accept a self-attested certified copy for the initial application but insists on university-attested transcripts before issuing the CAS. Ask your Indian institution for two sealed sets of transcripts upfront.
Loughborough University Acceptance Rate for Indian Students
Loughborough is a moderately competitive UK institution — most well-prepared Indian applicants who meet the academic and English floor receive an offer, though selective programmes tighten the funnel.
Loughborough University Institution-Wide Acceptance Rate
The overall acceptance rate is around 68 percent, based on third-party admissions estimates, as the university does not publish an official institutional figure. This translates to roughly two admits for every three applicants across all programmes.
Loughborough University Programme-Level Competitiveness
Programmes clustered around the university’s five-star research areas — Sport Science, Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Design, and Business — sit below the average, with informal accept rates in the 40 to 55 percent range. Humanities, social sciences and interdisciplinary masters trend higher at 70 to 80 percent. Check the university’s subject ranking band for how the competitive pull maps to global standing.
Insider note: Indians make up the second-largest international cohort at Loughborough after China, and the university actively targets Indian intake growth. A clean 2:1 Bachelor’s with a genuine personal statement wins in the review room.
United Kingdom Student Visa for Loughborough University Indian Students
Indian students entering Loughborough sit on the UK Student Route visa (previously Tier 4). You can apply from India up to 6 months before your course start date, once you have a CAS number from Loughborough.
Loughborough issues the CAS after you accept an offer, pay the £2,500 (around ₹3.19 Lakhs) postgraduate tuition deposit (UG applicants do not need a deposit), and submit your final academic and English documents. For the visa itself, you upload proof you can fund the first year’s tuition plus £1,171 per month (around ₹1.49 Lakhs) of living costs for up to 9 months, totalling £10,539 (around ₹13.43 Lakhs) for students at the Loughborough campus. Funds must sit in your name or a parent’s name for 28 consecutive days before the visa application. Add the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) — £776 per year — and the £524 visa fee at submission. Post-arrival, you collect your Biometric Residence Permit within 10 days and complete Loughborough’s online enrolment.
2026 update: The UK Graduate Route remains available to Loughborough graduates and offers 2 years of post-study work rights (3 years for PhDs). Confirm eligibility windows with the UKVI before departure.
Tips for Loughborough University Admissions
The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Loughborough over the last three intake cycles.
- Apply early in the rolling window: Postgraduate offers move faster and CAS-timing eases if you apply between September and December.
- Prioritise the personal statement: Loughborough reviewers weight motivation and programme fit heavily; do not recycle a generic UK-wide statement.
- Book IELTS early: Aim for a 7.0 overall as a buffer against the 6.5 floor and pre-sessional English costs.
- Leverage the 40 percent MBA scholarship: Full-time MBA applicants with strong management CVs qualify for the Excellence Awards on merit review.
- Keep transcripts translated in advance: Non-English regional-board transcripts need attested translations before CAS issuance.
- Choose your campus: Loughborough main campus and Loughborough London have different programme lists, fee structures and living costs.

Overview
One year of new opportunities, meeting people from different backgrounds, new learnings and a very different teaching experience. I learnt a lot at Loughborough not only about my course but also about my field and what the future would look like. Even if I was struggling with mental health issues at times there were always resources available for me to speak to people and get the help I needed

- Loughborough University is student friendly university. There is always someone to help you out whether you need assistance in academics, sports activities/games, personal health issues, mental health and well-being etc. You would love student life in loughborough university. If you found a good friends gang, then think that you are in heaven. Also in academics they all have well-equipped labs. Since my course is practical oriented, uni provided all sort of practical exposures to learn my course thoroughly.
- The facilites, freedom for students, academic exposure, security at night, helpful staffs, faculties, footaball courts, basketball courts, apple trees, elite accomodation and restaurants and for guests and students etc. On the whole you feel the heaven.
Dislikes
- If the university was situated a slighly closer to town, it would be easier for students to attend and enjoy events happening in town. Also it would be easy for attending part-time work since the part-tiem job opportunities is low in campus.
Overview
I loved my student life. Since I had my best time at Loughborough University. As I had my own friends gang, I hanged out with them frequently. Also, the place I stayed (Falkner Eggington accommodation) had sweet friends who were kind and friendly. We became close within few weeks. As they were from my state.
