What Students Say
Likes
- Experienced faculty who puts in efforts to present topics in a better way. They are also friendly.
- A lot of ever busy clubs and communities like NSS, NCC, Rotaract, Shakthi Cell etc. Students can explore any of these and use these oppurtunity
- This is one of the best college for those who want to learn Visual communication. There are top notch editing studio, audio recording lab
Dislikes
- This is a women's college. Most of the inter collegiate event invitations were sent to woman colleges only.
- We had Jain catering back then. Which didn't include onion, garlic, potato in food. The food was less flavourful, but decent enough
- Any work involving admin office would be delayed unnecessarily.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course and curriculum are way too outdated for current scenario. I remember my faculty telling that she studied the same 15-18 years ago. It's high time that university of Madras updates the curriculum. It doesn't prepare you for anything. I would suggest that students to do internships for real world experience. Faculties tried to make it interesting, but when the syllabus itself is boring, what can they do. Exams aren't difficult. This is a semester model. So you have good time to learn. Bare minimum efforts are sufficient to crack these exams.
Internships Opportunities
Faculty is keep circulating messages related to internship opportunities. Some of them would be paid internship opportunities and some of them would be unpaid. Internship opportunity from deloit was also offerred, but that had several rounds of interviews and was tough to crack.
Placement Experience
Placements were decent enough. McKinsey, TCS, HCL were one of the top companies. We also had Justdial and few banks that came for recruitment. Average package was around 2.5 lpa. Highest package was by McKinsey - 3 lpa My plans were to pursue MBA, so I didn't apply for placements. McKinsey offered business presentation specialist roles. Just Dial and banks offered customer support roles. 7/10 were placed.
Fees and Financial Aid
The first year fee was around 62,000. Second year it was 65,000 and for the final year it was 68,000 or 70,000. The fees kept increasing year on year. I studied in Jain School and easily got into Jain college like most of the other jain school students. Yes, students from Jain community and Jain school were easily taken in. They didn't collect anyother compulsory charges. For jain students the fee was lesser. We also had friends from SC, ST community studying with us.
Campus Life
All festivals like diwali, onam, christmas, new year, Pongal will be celebrated the best way. We also have club days where intra collegiate would happen and you can showcase your talent. For fresher we have freshers day, induction day program, shasun talent hunt during the first 2 months of the academic year. Students can join Shakti cell and be part of dance music or any other art club and can perform during Shakti cell events. There are other clubs like centre of excellence and COE retail where you can put up stall during events and make money out of it. Every department will have their own department day and they conduct events like stress interview, shark tank etc. Library is one awesome space to learn and there are wide range of books available in the library. Every classroom has the smart board facility to learn concepts online. Shasan has cricket Kabaddi volleyball archery teams and cricket team has several tournaments in zonal level and our colleges archery team qualified for National level tournament. The college also have sukhada which is for students to seek psychological help if they feel down. We have apollo shine within the campus and a nurse to help with any physical discomfort.
Admission
I joined during Covid Pandemic. I chose this college as I studied in Jain School from Pre KG to 12th std and I was sure that am gonna get it. I applied to MOP vaishnava, but that was expensive compared to Shasun. I was offered evening shift, but I was looking for morning shift. So I ended up choosing Shasun, which was relatively less expensive, closer to my home and I got the course and shift I wanted. Admission process was online, I applied, there was a small interview with my department head with my parents, and thats it. I had no exams. Overall it was seamless.
Faculty
We were affiliated to University of Madras and follow their exam systems. Faculties were approachable and friendly in my department. I used to be on OD, for 3/5 days, they were understanding and helped me stay updated. I love my HOD, Dr A Umahani ma'am. She is strict, she will expect decorum, but she will be the first person to appreciate you when you achieve something. Dr Mary Diana ma'am, sweet as always and ever energetic. She is full of vibe and understands us well. Exams weren't difficult. As someone who never stayed in the class, I was still able to crack the exams. You just need good friends who can help you in the last moment and previous year question papers. Just identify the pattern of the questions and you are good to go.
Night Life
Unfortunately there is no hostel in the college and the evening shift ends by 6:00 p.m. and the security guard and sure that you leave the campus by 6:30 and the gates will be closed by 7:00 p.m. nobody is allowed to enter the college post 7:00 p.m. so there is no chance of nightlife inside the campus. We have a gym and students are free to workout over there, we had canteen that provided food that was following Jain food rules, but now it is fixed and we can have potato Onion carrot garlic in our food and Jain type of food is offered at a separate counter. Library had good number of books , not just academical we also had fiction and non fiction books for recreation. The college is situated in the heart of the city and it is easy to come out from any part of the city. T Nagar bus stop like 2 minutes away from the campus and Mambalam railway station is 5 minutes away from the college campus making it easy to commute. There are a lot of hangout areas inside the college to havfun
