Course Curriculum Overview

4

The CSE curriculm at Chandigarh University is well structured and it aims at providing real world practical knowledge to its students. The course provides exposure to emerging technologies . Within the curriculm there are courses like- Cloud Computing, Big Data Science, Mobile and Android Development, JAVA, Numerical Python , Cybersecurity etc. Exams are held at regular intervals to test the knowledge of students. Every month MST are held , they are of 20 marks and at the end final ESTs are held. Practical exams are also held

Fees and Financial Aid

I joined college in 2021 for pursuing my B.E in CSE, the fees per semester for my batch was Rs 90000. There are many scholarships which one can avail but only one such scheme can be used at a time. There is one CUCET test, students give this test, and based on the scores in this test scholarship is given. There is a merit-based scholarship usually on the scores ofthe 12th class or JEE rank.

Campus Life

4

The only good thing about Cu is its campus life. My experience with campus life at CU has been memprable. Their is vibrant student culture. Students from all around India are studying under one roof . There is rich cuktural diversity and mutual respect for each other's culture. Events like- tech fets, Cu fest(annual fest) , hackathons and ideathons and fest nights are held. Academic events are also held like Project Expo.

Hostel Facilities

5

The hostel life at chandigarh university is excellent and comfortable. All the required facilities are provided with 24/7 electricity, water supply, wifi etc. I stayed in the hostel for 4 years and as a resident of Cu hostel I found it to be a well balanced environmnet with all the basic facilities. The rooms are usually 4 seater for Indian students for international studnets it can be 3 seater also. Each room has bed, study table, chair, cuboards, tube lights, wifi facility, cooler, fans. In some girls hostel(Sukhna A) the rooms have attached washrooms. Clenaing of the room is done every alternate day. There are other facilities with in hostel like- laundry services(paid), tuck shop, beauty parlour, common rooms, study rooms, gym.

Admission

I chose chandigarh university because of its academic excellence. It is NAAC A+ college and also one of India's leading top private universities. It provides its students with large number of opportunities.. It has industry industry-oriented curriculm. Excellent placement records , one of my batchmates got place din PayPal with the package of 34 LPA. It has smart campus and infrastructure. Libraries are fully equipped with modern facilities and overall this university provides good exposure. Apart from Chandigarh University, i also applied for CSE in GNDU, Amritsar. GNDU is govt university and generally admissions are based on the JEE exam and I could not score enough. Secondly, GNDU doesn't provide as good opportunities as CU

Faculty

3

The faculty is not that experienced. Most of the new faculty members are the ones pursuing thier PhD from CU or are those who did their masters from Cu itself. There are senior faculty members also who are quite knowledgeable and they teach very well . The number of faculty differs from dept. to dept. The faculty to student relationship also depends upon the student. Ther are few strict teachers who are very strict for curriculm and attendance. The exam pattern of Cu is like every semester 2 MSTs are held , Practical MSTs and final ESTs are held. The MSTs are of 20 marks and cover the syllabus of Unit 1 and Unit 2 respectively. The weightage of Mst depends on the type of subject , for example- if it Hybrid subject (practical+theory) the weightage is only 5 per MST(5 of MST1 + 5 of MST2=10) and in case of theory subject the weightage is 10 marks per MST(10 of MST 1+ 10 of MST2=20). The practical MSTs are of 10 marks and carry weightage of only 4 marks in the final result. The ESTs are of 60 marks. Practical ESTs are also held they are of 40 marks and their weightage is 20 marks in final result. The level of exam is easy to medium , most of the students are able to score good marks.

Night Life

4

The nightlife in campus feels good. The hostellers are allowed in the campus till a dedicated time . For girls it is 8 pm and for boys its maximum 9:30 pm. However students can take night out to explore nightlife around the campus. There are a number of cafeterias and food courts in campus which remain open till 9:30 pm. There are also common room where students can engage themselves in extra co curricular activities. The hangout spots outside the campus includes- Kharar, Moahli, Chandigarh. Students can go to market place in chnadiagrh and also to clubs. Sukhna lake is popular outing spot and Ekante mall , Punjab VR mall are some other spots. For shopping one can go to 22 sector Chandigarh Market. The campus is located in Gharuan, Kharar, dist. Mohali which is considered student safe . 24/7 security is there and there are cctv cameras every where in the campus.

Placement Experience:

Students start becoming eligible for campus placements from the sixth semester, and that’s when most training sessions for aptitude, coding and soft skills also begin. The placement cell is active throughout the year and brings in a mix of product-based, service-based and mid-tier tech companies. The number of offers varies every year, but CSE-related branches usually get the highest share of opportunities. Companies come for roles like software trainee, analyst, QA, support engineering and web development, so there’s a good spread of entry-level roles.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

The placement of our college is good but its lack to bring big names but overall it's 3 out of 5 as it's basically focus on bringing software companies but our stream is of electronics so we donot have that much knowledge about coding so we lack to get placed this is the only disadvantage of the placement cell here

In 3rd semester a student is eligible for campus placement but it is all upto to students that they have to maintain a good cgpa and skills for interviews. In Chitkara university a good number of companies visited like Microsoft, google and they provide 100+ offerletters. 85-90 % students get placed in Chitkara university. After getting degree I firstly join to the company .

Placement Experience:

There is an option for students to opt for placements from campus in our university and if we seect that option we are given special training by the university it self in fields which we think we are weak. That include technical and non technical fields like soft skills. University also ties up with other triaining companis to train us in better way by calling tutors from outside the campus for teaching us. Over all if we consider we are already well trained by university to sit for on campus placements and we usually get a good paying job which also helps us to gain more knowledge and improve ourself.
