Course Curriculum Overview
I was interested in the course that I have choosen. The curriculum for atleast the first year is not preparing us for any real life application in contrary it just feels like boring school lectures and everyone just goes for attendance. The course should be revaluated and change according to the requirements for placement. The frequency and timing of the exams are okay.
Internships Opportunities
As a first year student genuinely did not have much idea about the same so will not misguide but would say don't blindly believe the online sources of average package and stuffs. It may be misleading.
Placement Experience
From 3rd year students become eligible for the campus placements probably. Not completely sure of the placements since I am only in 1st year. I thing most of the students gets placed but with very low ctc the later. After getting the degree either with go for the placements on and off campus or will go for pursuing MBA abroad.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year wise tution fees is 4,25,000 inr for 1 year which totals for 1700000 inr for the complete course opted by me of Btech. computer science w/s Cyber Security. Some branches like Btech Cse w/s AIML and Btech CSE Core has a fees of 4.75lakh inr per year. Also there are cost such as exam fees averages to 3500 inr per semester and for hostel of least facilities like not attached washroom 4 sharing costs 125000 inr for a year and hostel fees increase a little every year for almost 2000 inr.
Campus Life
The main anual fests are held twice by two clubs. Rest in between there are various small fest but not even attended all and also not even knowing all of them. There is a very big 4 storey library and all the books are accessible and there are a wide range of books as expected of a library that is the biggest library of a college in the country. There are few classes with smart boards rest none other technological provisions within the classroom exept for our phone and laptop that we have to bring. There are various oppurtunities for sports enthusiasts offered by the college, we can also represent our college for sports. There are many student-run clubs, and also many student portals made by the students which are more useful as compared with the college student portal.
Hostel Facilities
The room is very average size for 4 sharing. For each person a cot, a study table, a chair and a cupboard is provided. The quality of food is not the best out there but very good while comparing with most messes out there, but the food starts to get boring after few months and they just never change the menu. The registration process of the hostel is just before coming to the campus through their portal which is very difficult to book as per our choice, and it is mostly luck based with high speed internet, bank server should not trouble and many other factors it is a very stressful job to do in the morning at their time. There are flats, PG everywhere surrounding the Potheri area and Guduvancheri area but as you will reside near the campus the price of living increases, and the most famous of them are The abode and the Estancia, both are township and both are very near to the college, while Abode is a bit on the cheaper side, estancia is very expensive for students.
Admission
I applied for the entrance test of various colleges namely BITS, VIT, and Manipal university. I was getting the same course in Manipal too but their councelling rounds were very late and till then paid the fees for SRM. Got rejection from VIT but am still confused whay so and according to me I am 90% sure that their ranking system for their entrance test is biased and not fair. Was able to qualify the BITS round 1 but was not getting desired course, and round 2 skipped the exam due to some unforscene circumstances.
Faculty
The faculty-to-student ratio is almost 1:24. The faculties are diificult to be approached not all of them but many. Liked the 1st semester maths faculty "Mrs. Meena Parvathy" for her extremely understandable teaching. Not like the programming teacher "Mr. Sundarrajan M." since they are not at all coming for teaching, most of the classes gets cancelled and just some substitute comes and sits or some work is given without even knowing any content. There are like 3 class test per semester for each subjects and a semester examination, which is easy to clear for most except few. The semester exam s only covers topics that are most important from the units there in the syllabus.
Night Life
College provides only one gym in the campus which is always crowded and sweat smelly. There are many cafeteria's in the campus. Library is huge which is the largest college library in India. All the public food areas closes at 7 or 7:30 at evening. Hostel in timmings are 9 at night till 5:30 at morning. The hangout place mainly is the java canteen and also slice of life cafeteria where we can spend time with our friends. The campus is very safe to roam at night, no issue at all.
