Course Curriculum Overview

5

The reason for which I chose the crouse of history was for my own interest in history itself. I was always interested in history as early as in my 2nd grade, I would also like to learn more and this eventually led me to take history Hons. As I'm expecting to become an archaeologist in order to learn the truth and uncover the mysteries that are still unsolved to this day, however that is not the only reason as to why this course this course also lets me to become more aware of myself and what I say to others and think is philosophical ways to improve myself

Fees and Financial Aid

To be precise our college is based only one time admission in a semester based system and we do not pay any form of tuition fees, development fees or lab fees. But we do have examination fees which is seperate from admission fee. The sum fee for which I paid for my course i.e., for B.A. history Hons during the 1st semester was 9040 rupees (approx) including the uniforms for the college i.e., t-shirt,pants and blazer. The examination fee for the 1st semester was 1290 rupees during the year of 2024. As for my other batchmates the B.A 1st semester students from other departments were also the exact amount of fees paid and also this applies to all caste groups and the fee does not depend on whether one caste group belongs to backwards or other caste. There are also scholarship facilities for students here such as: Post Matric Scholarship and as well as the Merit State Scholarship. A precise amount is not distributed in both the schemes of scholarship, post matric scholarship offers roughly 5000 rupees and is distributed in two installment system at the first installment a student receives about 3000 rupees and in the second installment 2000 rupees approx. Whereas the merit state Scholarship received roughly between 10000-14000 rupees all at once depending on the availability of funds sent by the government and does not follow the installment based system.

Campus Life

4

Although there are various clubs in the college most of them are just in the name and there is no actual practical work done in most clubs which seems like a waste. Compared to other colleges which have a lot of clubs and club activities ours doses not compare at all with merely having 5-7 total clubs and most of the students not joining bcoz of the lack of their interest club unlike the other colleges which have a minimum of 10 clubs where every student must be a part of a club. Though the college lacks in club activities it does have a well established library for reading books and containing most of the relevant books which a students needs to read. There is also not much sport activity in the college and is held at the end of the year which last for 2 days. Apart from club and sport activities our college do have interesting extra curricular activities from time to time which is healthy for the students as well as the college itself .

Hostel Facilities

1

I currently stay in a PG and the environment in which the pg resides is decent and comforting but that's all. The rooms are not very decent but just average and it lacks a lot of facility such as wifi, no electricity 24/7, etc, for the price in which I pay it is not worth the money and on top of that I share a room together with another student since it was too expensive to take the single room and there was zero facilities. If there was good facility provided i wouldn't mind paying the extra sum. The meals here are pretty average not too bad nor too good but considering the sum which I pay monthly it is still not worth it. Our diet consists mostly of lentils and pickles and we get to eat non veg on Monday night, Wednesday night and Friday night . To enrol ourself in the hostel all we need is the money our name that's all and in terms affordability it is very bad. The pg is located near our college in the krouleizou colony which is in the road of billy Graham road .

Admission

At first I applied for Dimapur govt.college in dimapur and I had to give and entrance exam there and the second college I applied for was the college I'm currently pursuing my studies right now i.e., Kohima college, Kohima and In this college there was no entrance exam and was purely based on our percentage of our 12th board examination results and finally I also applied for the NEF law college which is located in Gauhati where there was another entrance exam held there too. Both the college where I had given my entrance exams I made it and cleared the exams and I was really hoping to join Dimapur govt college but the results came out very late and the college which I'm in currently their deadline for admission was closing in so I had to do my admission in kohima college or else my first priority was dimapur govt college. As for the NEF law college even after I cleared my entrance exam I didn't do my admission there as it was an unfamiliar place and the fees were high but it was among the top law college there in the State of Assam in Gauhati The process for admission in my college i.e., kohima college is based on merit system and also first priority is given to the govt High school students of the city , then the govt High school students of the state and lastly comes the merit students.

Faculty

4

The students far surpasses the faculty members in numbers . As the number of faculty is only 2/7 that of the students. As for the faculties that I like in my college are my department faculty members i.e., from the history department as well as the English department faculty the reason being for liking them is for the interest that I have for myself and the manner in which this two faculty members work and their system or mode of conduct for various programs to mold a student. I also have some faculties that i dislike faculty from the pol.sci department and the commerce faculty. The pol. Sci is just too much of a hastle in almost every other college as well as it is in here. As for the commerce faculty it is not excatly the faculty but the students belonging to this faculty since they often think highly of themselves without even understanding how things properly about other courses for undergraduate programs. In total there are three exams held in a semester. 1st being the internal test given itself in our own classroom with the same classmates and the, 2nd which is also internal exam however in this 2nd internal exam students are divided and give exams among different department members in different classrooms and lastly the 3rd which is the external or also known as end semester exams. There are no exact numbers as to how many students fail to clear the exams as it strictly depends upon the performance of the students itself , however in the 2nd internal exam those who do not manage to pass also the papers are not given the rights to give the end semester exam and are dropped out immediately.

Night Life

4

Usually a normal day class ends around 4 p.m and there is no exact thing such a night life in college campus as the area of campus is not very large but relatively small. The college consists of two canteens one in the ground floor and the other on the top floor. The library is also on the ground floor just the opposite of the canteen. The college hostel is just below the college campus and the college starts at 12 p.m and ends at 4 p.m from monday - Wednesday and in Thursday and Friday classes start at 8 a.m and ends at 12 p.m. One of the famous/popular place for students to hangout is right outside the college campus a small shop selling noodles, fried rice, puris, etc, like a restaurant but the mini version of it, many students gather to enjoy the food and chat.

Remarks:

Our college has all the infrastructures that a student need for basic learning but not all for a complete standardized exposure linked to our talents. The attendance weight age is quite attentively followed and students may be dropped just because of the attendance. It's quite far from here town so, usually alot of people stay in the hostel, and staying in the hostel seems to be painful since the areas adjoin the college is a highway, and we don't have access to towns and good shops nearby in order to get our need full filled. Apart from my studies I'm also having a good time with my professors.
