Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose my course (B. Com-regular) because I had no clue of what to take, so just went for the no brained, basic of the basic. Didn't want to regret taking a course for something I didn't want to do, rather make an informed decision in my later semesters. The curriculum is quite familiar to what I already learnt. The curriculum prepares barely does anything to prepare you for the real world, but there are quite a bit of events and such you can join in college to gain such experience. As per as improvements in teaching, I don't know, maybe just tell the teachers that making dry activities that sound more tedious than fun would make classes more engaging, and improvements in curriculum, I have no opinion on. Exams are quite well paced, and honestly, I don't know if it's because it's college, but it's a breeze compared to 7th to 12th standard CBSE. And if you want to notch up difficulty, it can be done by just taking certificate courses provided by college alongside your regular course.

Internships Opportunities

3

There are a lot of companies offering internships for students, especially top companies, or at least that's whats being said by teachers and faculty in the college. I assume I will be informed in detail of such in the near future, as I'm still in my first year, and much importance is not given for explaining placements when there's still 2 more years to go.

Placement Experience

3

Honestly, other than hearing quite a lot about how placements are good in this college, such as how top companies recruit from here and how a lot of students have gotten placements, I've not really looked into it. I'm in my second semester of college, and so far nothing has been mentioned regarding the same. My plans after my degree is probably to get a job, preferably from placements, and alongside with it do an additional course to build my resume.

Fees and Financial Aid

First year paid 1,70,000. Upcoming years will be of similar price. Very few compulsory fees so far. My batchmates native to bangalore pay less, but as an NRI, I pay more. KJC has 4 scholarships, all of which can be seen if searched up.

Campus Life

4

The Campus honestly is a vibe. It's fun to roam around, and it has a green look to it, in a clean and not messy manner. Festivals are few and far between, with nothing much happening in them even when they occur. Nothing like what I've heard of other colleges have anyway. The facilities and tech provisions in class are fine, anything more would be a waste. There are a lot of extracurricular activities available, as well as sports. Clubs are there as well, but don't really impact student life much.

Hostel Facilities

2

Hostel facilities are very average, even below average for the price paid. Like for the same price, or slightly more, you can get double the comfort. Freedom is another thing entirely. We have curfew at 9, no electrical appliances such as kettles are allowed, and wardens can levy fines for the dumbest things, such as switching rooms after 9pm. Hostel mess is a disaster, with at least one event every month where everyone bombs their bathrooms. At least it is optional, so I don't partake in that disaster. Messes outside are fine, fully worth it even in some cases. Registration process for hostel was simple, and as for affordability, you'd get the same facilities and comfort for a much lesser price here in Kothanur, Bangalore.

Admission

I applied to I think 3 colleges, all in bangalore. As to why in bangalore, I don't know, heard it was hype and just wanted a change. I could've and honestly should've gone to pune for reasons, but I ended up ignoring that idea cuz of reasons. I applied to St. Joseph college in bangalore, I didn't get any response back, even to my initial email. Christ college I applied to as well, but since I was abroad at the time and to get into christ you need to come to India and write a paper, Christ was out as well. I got a confirmed admission from KJC early on from my house abroad itself, so that was one of my main reasons to accept it. The admission process involved filling out a couple forms, with all the necessary proof regarding my marks and such. Overall the admission experience was something I'd rather not go through again, as it was quite tedious.

Faculty

2

The faculty is quite unapproachable, with almost all of them having a relatively dismissive attitude to any problems students face, but quite attentive to any small issues like slightly longer hair(only for boys) , anything other can clean shave, etc. Most faculty are unlikeable due to them being too uptight and for the above mentioned reason. I've met one teacher who is quite chill though, with the name Brighton, and he happens to be the only teacher with interesting classes. I mean, to make English class not boring is a task in and out of itself. Exams are easy, at least so far, with barely anyone failing. Course curriculum is relavent to what I took.

Night Life

2

I live in a hostel, which unfortunately has a curfew of 9pm, hence not giving me the full bangalore night life experience, even thought Ive heard it's nothing much. There are tons of gyms, cafes, and shops nearby the college, making it a fun experience at least before 9pm. The Cafe areas of college is quite the busy places in college, as well as the college ground (turf?). As mentioned before, I've left the hostel after 9pm maybe like 5 times in my few months of stay here, so I don't know how safe the locality is. As It is around a college, it probably is, though it's wise to not tempt fate.

So basically it included everything a student needs in their graduation. I suggest that there should have been regular classes with encourages student teacher interaction.

Remarks:

Oxford College is a good college but i wish they would change the title. It makes us laugh as the name has been copies from the Oxford London University. Other than that our college is good overall. The crowd is also great and interesting. In hubli probably the only college with such freedom and open thinking. There is a bit of safety issue of our college being on the outskirts and the nearest police station being 2 km away.
