Course Curriculum Overview

4

Course curriculum is very good as compared to other colleges but the way it is executed has to be improved. This is a new course so there are many difficulties. Whole syllabus is not being taught. Self study is encouraged. Moreover our classes take place at IIT as well as hospital. There were many problems including transport and accommodation. Somehow we solved them. Curriculum makes us really good at the subject but as I told earlier self study is encouraged. What is given from college is not enough. Curriculum is good. No need to be improved. Rearrangements can be made in courses order. There are very relevant subjects and topics. Teaching methods are good for some faculties. Projectors are used by most of them. Materials are shared via Google classroom. Exams are frequently taken. One or two midsem exams , one final exam, assignments, project , presentations are conducted and assessed. Viva also in case of labs. difficulty level is medium. If we work hard , it is easy. Scoring cgpa 10 is tough but to get 7 above needs hardwork that's it.

Internships Opportunities

2

Good internship opportunities are available for all branches. You'll recieve information regarding these from the Office of career service(OCS)IITH.A lot of Japenese companies hire from here. The professors are supportive in this aspect and academic section provides necessary documents for this without any hassle. Stipended internships are available . According to eligibility we may apply. Faculties provide approvals easily if we are a good student. Some times they'll assess to see if we are fit for the role. Many students go to Japan for various internships as iith has an affiliation with japan. There are lots of student exchange programs happening too. Most of my friends have visited japan. I didn't yet get a chance but I will maybe next year. Most of the internships has an eligibility given score. Minimum gpa to apply differs for each but mostly it is 8. If we attend japan hours conducted every Friday and join the japan club and ayyane dall their classes language classes and seminars there are lot of opportunities to go to Japan - many many ways.

Placement Experience

4

Placements are very very good. Almost all students get placed . Most of my friends got placed. My course has no placement companies so far as it is a specialized course where we work at hospitals. Students in btech can sit for placement exams from 3rd semester. Almost all students study very hard for them and their work pay off. For, mtech students they can sit in their 2nd year. Precisely to say in the 3rd semester. I don't know much about companies as I m not from that field. But the packages are quite decent. Number of offers made are really large. Each company takes almost 10 students. There are really good packages available for btech students than mtech students. I'm not sure. But if what I know the highest package is 1 cr per annum and average is 15-20 lakh per annum. Almost 90 percent students get placed. There are big and small offers as well. All those placed don't get into good companies but most of them are placed. It's upto you to decline of accept. I plan to go abroad for phd.

Fees and Financial Aid

First semester the fees was 1,95,000 including the initial deposit. Tuition fee is constant through out-1,30,000. Registration was free. Admission fee was some 1000. Second semester fee was a bit less- 1,80,000. Hostel and mess fees were comparitively less- hostel around 15,000 and mess 7,500 per semester. By second year that is 3rd semester tution fee was same but hostel and mess increased to 35,000 in total. Tution fee is based on credits. Out course is structured in such a way that we have same number of credits every semester so fees is constant. 3rd semester fee was 1,79,000. 4th semester we vacated the hostel and mess, so it was not included in our fees , so the fees was 1,39,000. We vacated as part of our balance course to be held at another hospital in Banjara hills- Basawatarakam. My seat was not category seat. All batchmates have same fees. I got inspire scholarship before coming here which I saved for my fees. Now I'm not receiving any. But there are many scholarships available like NSP. All scholarships are contacted to us via email from institute itself. We can check eligibility and apply. Most scholarships are to be applied in first year.I didn't know that as I was a newbie so I didn't get to know about it then. Later when I knew , the time to apply had passed. But I won't say this fees is too much as an IITian. They provide all facilities. In hostel we have washing machine , water filter , bathrooms , cleaners , very clean rooms- that too single rooms, food is very good, etc..so overall fee is fine for what we get there.

Campus Life

5

Milan - inter hostel competition Elan - cultural club Ted x E summit Horizon RSD Zozimus Japan desk Nexus - conducted by students Diesta - inter department competitions Inter IIT fest and many more. Libraries are the best. They look like fictional libraries any reader would just love. Almost all genres are available. There is online checking facility of availability of books. Seating spaces are very creative specially crafted for studying and peaceful work. Classrooms are very good. Air conditioning, projectors , tv, stepped platforms , etc are available inosy classes. Premises are very friendly. I don't participate in sports but they are very active. Ground is buzy everyday. Each day there may be an event happening. There are gym and track and all facilities separately for each sport. Track for running, basket ball court, tennis court, football ground, cricket ground, closed and open, open running track , closed running track, volleyball court etc separately available. Yes nexus us run by students . Elan and envision too. They are very coordinated. All festivals are fun bomb by these groups. The whole iit participates and wonderful prizes are gifted. Coordination is at its peak.

Hostel Facilities

5

We have single rooms for all MSc and mtech students. For btech students 1 st year it is double sharing and later single rooms are given.Rooms have radiant cooling technology so it's very comfortable during summers.Water filters are available at odd floors. Old hostels have 6 floors each new hostels have more than that 10 or 12. Two Washing machines are available in each floor. 2 Sinks are also provided to wash plates if needed in each floor. Meals are good. Menu mostly has south indian and north indian dishes both.Special dinners are held every month.

Admission

I prepared for jam exam and was expecting to get into an iit. So I don't write any other exams or look into other colleges. But my score was less than i expected. But then I saw this MSc Medical Physics. I was already interested in persuing a specialized course as I decided not to continue with physics. I wanted to go for energy physics. But medical physics interested me more when I saw the curriculum. Moreover Hyderabad is a good place for muslims in India. Other reason is this course is aerb approved. Moreover after studying we have one year of internship affiliated to Basawatarakam hospital. Since it's already affiliated, we didn't have to search for other hospitals for internship. So it seemed good. One more reason was because medical physics is a really relevant field which has great significance outside India. And ofcourse i wanted an IIT ian tag too. All this reasons led me to choose MSc Medical Physics in IIT Hyderabad. I didn't receive any rejection from other colleges as I didn't write other exams and try for other colleges. I thought I'll crack jam and get into iit of repeat and try again if I didn't get it this time. But I got admitted. So no rejections. Nothing went wrong. Grateful. Our course eligibilty was to have the inspire scholarship and to crack jam exam . Score was not relevant. As there are students in my class who haven't cracked jam too. But everyone has inspire. A short list was made of 60 students. And later an interview was conducted online and 10 were selected. 10 seats are there but one took tc and now there are 9 students. There were no cut offs. This year for our juniors jam exam was to be cracked as an eligibility. I think in 4-5 years fees might go down and they might start taking form jam portal too. As of now these are the eligibilities .interview was easy only basics were asked. Maybe they selected based on communication skills, inspire jam score and other coursd knowledge.

Faculty

4

Faculty to student ratio is kind of neutral . There are a lot of faculties and a lot of students.i don't know the correct number but the campus is not overcrowded nor empty. It's a live campus with calmness. Most of the faculties are approachable and are very helpful. But like everywhere there are people who are not very approachable too. It's just luck. But the best thing is that each time for us to recieve our grade card we have to give a feedback to the course and the courses instructor compulsorily. And it's anonymous too. So we can put our honest suggestions about faculties and courses. So due to this system I think the faculties are given warnings if they get a lot of bad feedback. So they tend to do better for the next batch. This is from my experience too. One faculty who was not so approachable to our batch was really good with our juniors- maybe because we gave honest reviews. So I like that system very well. I liked many faculties. One of my favourites was Anjan Giri sir who taught Nuclear physics. He was way too polite and encouraged us to do big things without being bossy. He was very supportive. Others who were good according to me were Nithyananda Kanakaraj Sir, Sai Santhosh Sir, Mayukh Pahari sir, etc. There is no faculty that I didn't like but there were people who were unapproachable. But they were not bad, only that they too have lives and each people behave differently. No one was bad. Exam patterns are decided by faculty in charge of each course. Most of them follow a pattern where there is a midsem exam and a final exam , then some assignments and a project or presentation. Some faculties include attendence too but not everyone. Exams felt very very tough at the beginning but as the course progressed we got to know about how to study accordinv to each faculty. Attending classes are the best way to score as most of the faculties ask questions which were discussed in class. Comparitively easier to pass. Relative grading system is followed.

Night Life

5

Gym is fully equipped. It looks very decent.Almost all equipments are present. It's spacious too. Around the gym there is a running track. Which is inside a building. Outside the building there is an open track too. Cafeteria are present. There is a Nescafe for coffee, chocolates ,Maggie bread omlete, ice tea, etc. There is an amul for icecreams and milkshakes. There is a fresh juice shop . Fruits are available to buy, there are small small stalls which fry snacks and Maggie and all. There is a shop number 5- which brings variety of dishes from outside college each week. There is a barista in campus, a cafe coffee day, shiru cafe, small canteens etc and sometimes we get corn too. Night life is really calm and safe for girls. I often go out alone at night for just a walk or cycle. Students can't takevehicles.Only cycles.Securities are present at every corner.but there are snakes and pigs. No timing for own hostels. Girls can enter boys hostels by giving id cards can stay till 12 midnyt.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum of the biotechnology course includes all the relevant topics needed to gain information about the subject. The curriculum also includes currently developing topics of interest which may gain popularity in the future (like bioinformatics). It thoroughly prepares us for real world applications as we gain exposure to various fields of interest in the subject and get a hands-on training in the subject. Ab area i would like to suggest for improvement is to alot equal no. Of periods to different papers in the subject as each topic has its own value in the academic and career purpose. The internals are conducted every month within a duration of 1 hour for each paper. there are currently 4 internals for our batch, each of 10 marks. The externals or the end semester exams are conducted at the end of the semester approx 6 months, which are of 50 marks. 10 marks is alloted for attendance, bringing the total to 1000.
