What Students Say
Likes
- Firstly i liked the campus life of my college. my college nit trichy comes under the india's top colleges. greenery is everywhere. campus size around 700 acres and with lots of flora and fauna. my college has excellent infrastructure.
- second comes the curriculum as we have a good examination patterns and decent subjects for overall reach of the student. teachers are also highly qualified and humble and kind. apart from this most of them have done phd from top IITs.
- third is the facilities provided by our college. like the 24/7 library and the computer centre. wifi is provided in every room in the hostel. all the sports facilities like swimming, cricket, football and many more are provided.
Dislikes
- one thing i dislike is the distance between any two place is quite large as the campus size is very big.
- then comes the stray dogs spread in the whole campus. they can be annoying somewhat like while eating something on streets will attract stray dogs.
- i also dislike the hectic schedule of classes. like 4 class each day 4 days a week plus three lab courses for 3 days a week
Course Curriculum Overview
I want to clear that I chose this college because this was the best option. So my department is Production Engineering and is a non- circuital department. In my opinion as my teachers say that production engineering is somewhat similar to mechanical engineerig. The only difference is in the courses. Mechanical students have to study thermodynamics too which in our case is not there. Apart from this everything is similar. In my opinion production engineering is a new branch and has lots and lots of opportunities because it includes the management and economics part also. Yes, you heard it right, we do study about management and economics. So in a real world scenario it has many opportunities ro get placed for a manager position. And yes our college do delever best teaching methodology with lots of workshops and labs. Even our recent exams included real life based questions which were somewhat tricky and were only solvable if one had a deep understanding of production engineering.
Internships Opportunities
So as of now I am in second semester. So I don't know much about internships. But as far as I have heard from seniors, NIT Trichy offers great internship opportunities for all the branches. You become eligible for it from 2nd year onwards, but the thing is you need to have skills to be the part of this opportunity. Many companies like Google, Wipro, Oracle, Facebook and more offer great internship opportunities. Apart from this one can get an internship in some other colleges for example IITs and other renowned colleges under the supervision of our professors for a research or teaching work. Even professor itself hire students for the internship to help them in some research works. However it is mandatory to do intership in 3rd year as you will be placed in some company next year. I don't know much about the stipend but some seniors tell that it can vary from 30-40 thousands or can even go upto 1 lakhs per month. But you need to be prepared for these opportunities, that is why we have clubs, which not only gives task but also help us build skill and make industry ready. Generally students are given projects to work upon and based on there projects companies hire them in the semester break or can even give work from home facility in the semester breaks. We also have other authorities like internship cell and placement cells which arrange such opportunities.
Placement Experience
Students typically become eligible for campus placement from 7th semester. Top companies inlcuded Google, Honeywell, HP, Oracle, Morgan Stanley, Nvidia, and many more. After asking some seniors they told that the highest package was of around 53 LPA which was for multiple departments. Being a first year grad I don't know much about placements but as far as I know all the Branch has a placement percentage greater than 93-94%. Like for cse it is around 97% , ece and eee got 96% and for my branch production engineering it is somewhere between 94%. Average package for my branch in recent years is around 16LPA while the median is around 13LPA and the highest to be around 38LPA. Coming to my plans, I like mathematics a lot. So I have decided to learn machine learning and AI apart from my production engineering. We have decent companies offering a decent package for production engineering students pursuing some circuital skills.

Campus Life
My college conducts lots and lots of fests in different fields like cultural, technical, buisness etc. We have Festember which is a cultural fest held on the last week of September every year. We also have India's largest technical fest named Pragyan which is held in the last week of February. Apart from these we do have inter departmental fest named NITTFEST and many more. We have a Library known as central library. I don't go to library but my friends tell that it has large range of bokks available including curriculum books too. We have a full fledged computer centre named Octagon with 24/7 availability and high speed internet. Sports and extracurricular facilities are also on top. A sports fest named SPORTS FETE is conducted in the last quarter of the year. We are provided with all sports facilities like swimming pool, other sports equipment, sport injury medication etc. And yes the thing which is even somewhere above most IITs is the various clubs. We have lots of clubs including the two most renowned technical cum student run club named Spyder and Delta including all major domains. We have a mathematics research club named Maximus. There is also a buisness management and data analytics club named Sigma. We have a various cultural clubs too like DanceTroop, and Musical club and many more. Apart from this I would say that our most of the college is run by students itself, like management of various college websites, instagram handles and many more.
Hostel Facilities
I am a Hosteler. And yes i would surely say that our Hostels are even better than most IITs. We have around 22 boys hostel in all. All the facilities are provided like water, wifi, 24/7 electricity, ceiling fan, light bulbs, technical services, cleaning, geyser, security gurds etc. Some hostels are two sharing and some are three sharing. The hostel in which I am residing is a three sharing but is quite spacious. In the room every individual is provided with a personal cupboard and racks along with a table and chair and most importantly a single bed. Coming to mess services, meal quality depends on the caterers. If they are reputed then the quality will be no doubt high. So we have various mess seperately for boys and girls. For first year we are provided with 2 mess. The north one named Nilgiri mess and the south one named Kailash mess. Food quality in my opinion is very good. Cleanliness is a concern although it can be rectified easily. Various food items are provided considering the health of the students. One thing I like the most is that we can even eat in senior mess after paying some minimal amount like 50-60 rupees for a one time meal. Coming to registration process, it is very simple and easy. Dates for paying the fees are also decent like they vive ample time for paying the fee. Fee is paid online through sbi-collect website. Our one semester hostel and mess fee including all other facilities is around 46000. I like my hostel and mess facility so don't consider renting a room or PG.
Admission
In josaa councling I was getting some lower branches like chemical engineering , metallurgy and materials engeneering etc. in top NITs like NIT Surathkal, NIT Warangal, NIT Kurukshetra. I was even getting circuital branches like computer science engineering, ECE, EEE, etc. in some lower NITs and IIITs. But after discussing with my elder brothers they suggested me to choose top college in comparison to some lower college with decent branch. Although I didn't get the rejection from any other college because in josaa counceling i filled only those choices which i was expecting to get. The admission process of NIT Trichy for me was through josaa counceling. There are few other state government exams which on the basis of rank take candidates. But for B.Tech we only have JEE MAINS. This year the cutoff was higher in comparison to previous years. All the department had a major jump in the closing ranks. Although the admission procedure was nice and somewhat strict i would say.
Faculty
I am a first year graduation student and currently i am in second semester, so I don't know much about professors. Although on my personal experience from 1st semester I can clarify that professors are best in their fields. Student to faculty ratio is good. I don't know the exact number but the actual number is quite good as there are many assistance professors also. Along with assistant professors there are PHD scholars too who come in class for teaching. In my first semester I had subjects. Chemistry, Mathematics, Basic Electrical Engineering, Basic Production Engineering, English and 2 lab courses including Chemistry Lab and Engineering Graphics. For chemistry we had Dr. Ariwazighan, he is the senior professor on the department of chemistry, most humble and chill person my opinion. Then comes Dr. T. Jagadish for Production Engineering. Although he is an assistant professor but in my opinion he had great knowledge of the subject. Our engineer graphics professor was also Jagadish sir. Then comes maths, we had Dr. V. Shanti ma'am. She is very helpful but her maths classess just flew from our brain????. Although her questions were very lengthy in the examsa and maths was the toughest of all. Like we got chills and it is necessary coz we are in India's top college. Regarding exams we have kind of tri semester. We have 2 cycle tests of generally 20 marks and an end semester exam of generally 50 marks. The marks of CTs depend professor to professor. Although we do have assignments and all that which also possess some marks of around 10-15 marks. As I am in second semester and our results didn't come yet so I can't comment on how many students failed or passed. Let's what happens.
Interview Experience
No, i didn't
Night Life
NIT Trichy is stuffed with lots of hangout spots. Firstly I'll tell you about the night curfew. For the first year boys students, there is a night curfew after 10 pm. Although during fests and other activities authorities extend the curfew timing. From second year onwards there is no such curfew and life becomes chill as ice. For girls this 10pm curfew is always applicable till they graduate. There is a seperate whole area named Opal for girl' s hostel nd mess and other facilities. Although most of the academic and social spots are in main area. However we boys and other male individuals are strictly prohibited to go inside the girl's area. But can go with prior permission and all that. Talking about the spots we have various small cafes and eating spots spread in the campus. Nearby to my hostel there are 2 most famous shops, 1 named coke shop and the other lassi shop. Also there is a famous restaurant named Anjapar and a cafe named CSG. Dood prices in CSG is somewhat very high.
Other Applied Colleges
National Institute of Technology - [NITK] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Metallurgical and Materials Engineering)
i did not opt for this college because I was sure that I would get NIT Trichy. And most importantly NIT Trichy ranks 9th in Top Indian BTech colleges.
