What Students Say
Likes
- Even though we have exam every two months, the quality of time was intense. Everyday we had something new and interesting going on inside
- Celebrity appearances for college events. Since most of the events are sponsored by huge companies like Red Bull, Coke Studio
- We have 2 coolers on both ends of the floors that provide hot and cold water to students in every floor.
Dislikes
- I have felt that some of the faculties are more or less Tamil oriented when it comes to teaching. Sometimes they use their mother tongue
- Medical College is inside the campus, so there is public entry to the campus 24/7 which sometimes raises the concern on safety and privacy of the students inside the campus especially at night since the hostels are inside the campus.
Course Curriculum Overview
the curriculum covers the basics of almost all common languages like C, C++, Java, Javascript, Python, SQL, Visual Basics (VB) etc. It also covers other topics like html, css, Data structure etc. The labs and assignments we got during the course gave us a basic idea regarding how things workssure about others, but this is a personal opinion). Keep in mind that this course only gives you the basics to moderate level knowledge of programming languages. This doesnt include advance knowledge on any of the programming language (with respect to curriculum). Since we had Cycle Test (CT) every 2 months it is easy to gradually learn things but during the final exams there will be alot to cover if you dont remember anything that you studied for your CT.
Placement Experience
You shouldn't have any backlogs for appearing the placements. From the first year itself we have CDC (Career Development Cell) classes for training us with everything need for the placements. We had top MNC's like Wipro, Cognizant, Tcs, Infosys, IBM, Deloitte and many other famous campanies that came to our campus. Mine was during the Covid pandemic, so the procedures were a bit different than the usual. Average package of Rs 3,00,000 was offered as CTC. Almost 95% of the students were placed (to my knowlede) in various companies. I also joined an MNC during my time for a Package of 2.4L per annum.
Fees and Financial Aid
I paid 80,000 per year (This was back in 2018). So a total 2,40,000 (3-year degree) was paid as my tuition fee. It includes almost everything related to academically. But we have to bear other expenses for things like Assignments (Binding and printing) and Records for some Elective Subjects. I don't remember having a scholarship for this course.
Campus Life
SRM have lots of fests, events, promotions by certain brands happening throughout a year. We have Aarush and Jhalak (Inter house cultural competition) which happens between June - August , Celebrations during festivals, Department fests, Road Shows, Stunt Performances, Open Mic events. Milan fest is sponsored by giant companies like Red Bull, Coke Studio, One Plus Arena etc. Milan is conducted on the month of March every year and it is one of the famous college fests in South India. We have a huge library with vast varities of books in the campus and a silent reading room next to it. You need to swipe the college ID to enter the library premises and to take the book. Classrooms have 2 huge green boards, table and chairs for the students. T We have canteens run by the college directly for every departments, a private canteen (called JAVA) with many private food outlets available for the students including Subway.
Admission
I applied for VIT along with SRM. I was yet to recieve a call letter from VIT for the admission process. Before that I recieved the call letter from SRM for the admission. I also appeared for SRM JEE and did recieve a call letter earlier for the admission of the same, but it was my choice to go with a degree. I chose SRM because of the infrastructure, facilities, its good name among companies and exposure. I applied to only two colleges outside Kerala and that were SRM and VIT. I decided to go outside my state for much better experience and exposure. I applied for the course in the college site directly and I recieved their call letter for admission. Upon arriving the campus we got a campus tour by their bus along with other people who came for the admission and 2 students They have minimum mark policy for making you eligible for the admission and after that everything is merit based. No deposits or anything.
Faculty
We had exams every 2 months (6 month in total for a semester) known as Cycle Test (CT). Marks of CT along with your participation on class and how well you are completing the works assigned and your attendance are taken into account for your internal marks. There are 2 CT's and 1 Model exam (also taken for internal marks) before your semester exams. Some faculties tend to explain topics more in their mother tongue, which those students who doesnt follow that language find it difficult to follow
Interview Experience
Since mine was for degree (BCA), there was a basic screening during the application time itself (basic marks in 12th for applying). After that I recieved a call letter by email and upon arriving, I had a basic interview which I felt more or less like a document verification process (including your 12th and 10th marksheets) and to check your basic communication skills. After that I was informed that I am qualified and can pay the fees for 1 year and join If I am interested.
Night Life
With majority of the promotional, open mic events, Stunt performances etc are scheduled on working days, they are tend to happen in the evening. With everything happening inside the campus, they make sure to make us feel that we should stay at campus till night (even for a day scholar). We have department and private canteens, Saloon, cafe and even subway inside the campus. Students are required to enter the hostel by 7pm on a regular day (there is relaxation during Milan fest). College usually starts by 9 am.
