- The games and sports facility is good in this University. The playground is huge and provides good space for any sport you like. There is also indoor court for basketball and badminton. You can also participate in intercollege tournaments from here.
- Infrastructure is very good here. Though the university is old,but the infrastructure is managed properly.
- The library here is the largest one in Odisha. It provides many books and facilities. It has a provision called egranthalaya providing e-library for people along with wifi. It also has braille facilities in it.
Dislikes
- When I was studying there the syllabus was covered rapidly to complete the syllabus.
- As a psychology student we had very little field exposure there. The practicals were not thorough.
- Placement services are available for students in self finance courses like ITM, IST, etc. But not for others.
Course Curriculum Overview
The quality of course curriculum is average here. The content of the curriculum good but lacks practical application in it. As they say in colleges, you have to study by yourself for further academic pursuits. They do not actually prepare you for that. Though my department had few mock tests for further studies' entrance exams, but they do not focus on this. The faculties are concerned about completion of the syllabus and the results of students in semester exams. Other than the mid term and end term examinations, no other exams are conducted here. But presentations and seminars are conducted in the department by the faculties.
Fees and Financial Aid
Course Fee The course fee here is not that high. The admission fee for practical subjects is around ?2500 for boys and ?2300 for girls. And for non-practical subjects it is around ?2000 for boys and 1800 for girls. And every year for readmission they take around ?700 only for boys and ?600 for girls. There is also a fee taken for semester exam while filling examination form which is around ?200. Hostel Fees Now coming to the hostel fees, the starting fee is around ?8000 which includes a security deposit of about ?1500 which they will return to you when you leave the hostel after your graduation. So each year the admission or readmission fee of the hostel is around ?6000 which includes the maintenance fee as well as electricity charges. Apart from this, you have to pay the mess dues each month which is around ?2000. The mess provides two meals per day-lunch and dinner. In each field, for SC & ST category boys, the fee is reduced to the same level as girl's fees. Scholarship The university does not provide any merit-based scholarship to the students. But there are provisions for national and state scholarship in the university which is provided by the government itself.
Campus Life
There are various clubs in the university which organise certain programmes throughout the year. Also, sports and food fests are organised in the month of December. Inter hostel tournaments are organised throughout the year, which can be about sports and games as well as academic curricular activities like debates and quizzes. And technological provisions are also available in the classrooms. Though not in all the classes. In psychology department there were 2 classrooms with proper technological provisions in it. Also, a few classrooms has air conditioners in it. The library here provides access to computers with WiFi. It provides proper space in a disciplined way for self-study as well. My social life here was nice as the extracurricular activities here provides interaction with students from other departments as well.
Hostel Facilities
For bachelor students, there are four hostels for boys with each having their own different messes. The four hostels are named as East,West,New and Lalitgiri. These four hostels are inside the campus. There is another one named JC which is outside the campus. These hostels have their own mess with menus different from each other. I was from New hostel. The food quality was good. The mess do not provide breakfast here. If you want to have breakfast you have to go outside the campus. Breakfast and snacks or fastfood are available just outside the campus with affordable prices. The mess dues comes about ?2000 per month with a compulsory meal of 15 days.i;e even if don't eat , you have to pay for a minimum of 15 days' meals. During the admission process you have to opt for hostel stay to get a hostel. And if your home is within 30Km radius from the university then you are not eligible for hostel stay. If one does not get a hostel there are rooms or PG available nearby with affordable prices for students.
Admission
Ravenshaw University has a very bright reputation among the universities and colleges of Odisha. It was founded in the year 1868 and since then, it has earned a very positive name for itself. And so, if, one wants to study in Odisha, Ravenshaw University is easily one of the best choice due to its reputation. The admission procedure comes under SAMS now. But earlier it was done separately on the basis of 12th marks. Merit-based selection is the way to get admission here. The cut offs in psychology is not that high. During my time(2021) it was 83%. The admission process is hassle free.
Faculty
Faculties are approachable here regarding studies. But for other complaints and suggestions regarding university functions,no faculties give a damn. Few faculties in my department seemed like they lack field experience. They were good in teaching theoretically but not so good for practical teaching. Apart from this all faculties were good and approachable.
Night Life
Nightlife inside the campus is very safe as there are security guards all around the campus. After classes, one can sit or hangout in the lawn or at playground freely. The library is closed at 9PM on all working days. On holidays the library stays closed. The university has a cafeteria in it which provides a variety of snacks and beverages for the students. And it is open till 10PM. There are two gyms provided for girls and boys separately. Those are accessible in the morning as well as in the evening. There is no in-time for boys but girls are not allowed outside their hostel after 9PM.
