- Very well disciplined campus. One can have the college experience without letting themselves loose (within the campus).
- Professors are strict but approachable. Their teachings are an experience by itself.
- THE FOOD COURT!!!!!!! ?
Dislikes
- The college hostel timings could be a little more liberating.
- The Nescafe canteen (we have 4 canteens) charged me for an extra spoon.
- Unnecessary cold calling for non mandatory diploma courses.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is based on early to modern literature. Consists of a lot of romantic poets and demands a sense of literature from you. Since this is a non technical course, it's very obvious to go for further studies if one wants to secure a job. The frequency of the exams are absolutely beautiful. We have ample amount of time to deal with the syllabus and score well.
Fees and Financial Aid
The yearly fees for the year 2024 for BA Hons English (or any ba course) is 3081. During registration no extra fees was taken due to this year's centralized admission system. During admission the yearly fee is being charged only. Since BA Hons has no labs and practical( geography might be an exception) no extra fees is being charged apart from the yearly fee. There is no category based fees. Everyone pays the same amount of fees for the concerned course. As per my knowledge there is no college based scholarship. You can always opt for government scholarships. One might get some amount after graduation in case they are meritorious student.
Campus Life
There's an annual fest held every winter. Followed by an annual function. There is also an annual sports day. The library is huge and open to all. One can renew the borrowings after 14 days. There are smart boards along with reguler black boards. There are no defined clubs but evryone is recruited as per their niché during events and are provided certificates.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel room consists of single bed, a locker and a table and a chair. For first years it's dormitory room. Second year onwards it's double sharing rooms. The meal is both non veg and veg friendly. The quality is up to mark. Proteins are added adequately. 2 meals and 2 snacks are provided during the entire day. One can register for the college hostel once they notify on their college website. Only the distance from their hometown and caste is required.
Admission
I initially applied to Presidency University, Scottish Church College, Loreto College, Bethune. Taking the overall environment and faculty into consideration ( non union college) I opted for this college. Faced a rejection from Presidency and Loreto...but got into the rest two. The admissions are based off of 12th marks strictly. No other exams are accepted. One has to score very high to get into this college. Gen- above 95 Obc- 85 above Sc -75 above The above assumptions are just rough. One might be lucky enough to get into this college with lower marks or be unfortunate to not get into with much higher marks. Let's say a safe 90 above should be scored regardless of category. Luck opens to a lot of students during the later rounds of admission.
Faculty
As for English Hons, there's a total of 5 professors dedicated to different sections of the syllabus for a class of 30 students at the bachelor's level. Apart from regular classes, doubt classes as per the requirement of the students are taken. Professors are very approachable with doubts. I'm only acquainted with the English and History department. Needless to say both the HODs are exceptional people. The course curriculum is based on the Calcutta University syllabus. There's 1 exam per semester. The avg cgpa of the class comes at around 7.00.
Night Life
There are a total 4 canteens and 1 food court. Food court, the og hangout place. Besides during winters we love to sun bath in the basketball court. The hostel timings are rather strict. Outings are allowed only twice a week. Curfew is no later than 8.00pm. The locality is rather trouble some. It's best to hangout in groups or in public places rather than in shady areas.
