Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is very useful for real world applications, but the curriculum is old and we cannot refer to internet for lecture videos. Most Faculties are dependent on powerpoint presentations for lectures.
Internships Opportunities
You can get internships after 5th or 6th semester. Internships are offered by various startup companies and municipal corporation. However I am not very clear about the internship programmes offered at Sastra.
Placement Experience
Students from 5th or 6th semester are eligible for placements. Highest package was 42 lpa and average package was 6 lpa. 90% of students are getting placed. I am planning to complete my degree and go to abroad for my higher studies
Fees and Financial Aid
Tution fee: ?85,000/semester Registration fee(including caution fee): ?10,000(only for 1st semester) Book fee for 1st year: ?6,500(no books for other years) Other fees (including lab, etc): ?2,000/semester There is also scholarship provided by Lakshmi charity, for which you should have scored above 90% in boards. Mess fee: ?4,600/month Hostel fee:?14,000/year
Campus Life
There are many entrepreneurial clubs, art clubs, dance clubs, linguistic clubs, technical clubs in Sastra. There are three main events during even semester: Colosseum, Daksh and Kuruksastra. Colosseum is a sports event, Daksh is technical event and Kuruksastra is cultural event. Although there aren't many festival events, clubs and teams participate in inter-university competition with NIT Trichy.
Hostel Facilities
The boys hostel outside the campus is good and new but the water is hard and it affects your hair growth. However there are drainage issues for the hostel inside the campus and the building is old. If you chose the hostel outside the campus, you have to walk a distance of nearly 1.5km.
Admission
I applied for aerospace engineering course in VIT, SRM, Amrita, Sastra. I chose Sastra because it was cheaper and it was nearby. Amrita's aerospace engineering course was new and I was hesitant to choose it. Entrance for sastra is based on 12th marks and jee score.
Faculty
Most Faculties are approachable, except a few. There are three internal exams (CIA) conducted for 50 marks, among which the best two marks are considered. So, you need to focus to perform well in first two CIAs, as it is easier to score in first 2 , because the 3rd CIA is conducted for full syllabus. If you have scored good marks in CIA, you can chill during semester exams.
Night Life
The boys hostel timing is 8.30pm, girls hostel timing is 6pm and you should be inside the hostel before this. There are few hotels outside the college campus. The locality is safe except there are many students who smoke cigarettes.
Other Applied Colleges
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Aerospace Engineering)
Tution fee was higher than sastra
