Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is according to the CBME guidelines and is followed very strictly in the college. The teaching method is Audio-Visiual with the professor teaching the students with help of powerpoint presentations The exam frequency frankly is really packed, which I believe should be relieved a bit.

Internships Opportunities

3

The internship period post 4th year pays a stipend of 30,000 rs, and the work load is better compared to other colleges. The passing percentage is also good with more than 80% students completing their MBBS in the given time frame of 4.5 years. Many give NEET PG and a good percent even clear USMLE, PLAB and AMC owing to the wide array of activities the college facilitates.

Fees and Financial Aid

The management quota tuition fee is - 18,50,000/year, but admission and miscallaneous fees (which they call 'other fees' amounting to 136400 - one time) brings it up to 1986000 for the first year. From second year till internship they charge 'other fees' of 38,400 and a tuition fee of 18,50,000 is there till fourth year. In the internship (i.e. 5th year) the tuition fees comes to 9,25,000 (cut to half, as it is only of 6 months). There is NO provision of scholarships for MBBS students, and there is not reduction of fees for any Reserved Category students (OBC, SC, ST). Although if you take admission via KEA counselling your tuition fees comes down to 1,44,496/year and if you take admission through NRI Quota the tuition fees becomes 33,00,000/year.

Campus Life

4

The college dest is known as Tatvam. It is a really exciting week of fun competitions, activities and workshops. The fest is concluded by a vibrant dance party. There are numerous clubs in my college ranging from Drama - JSSMC Kalakriti to Psychiatry - Minds Club. And anyone who is interested can be a part of these clubs by undergoing a pre-screening interview Sports is extensively played - cricket, basketball, volleyball, chess, badminton and table tennis facilities are there in college, apart from that we have an annual sports meet and interbatch, intercollege competitions.

Hostel Facilities

3

The fresher batch is made to stay in a separate block for the first 6 months (for both boys and girls) after which they can shift to other blocks where students of other batches are also staying. The fees is ~2 lpa which I believe is a bit much, the food is okayish but sometimes the quality gets REALLY bad...but there are at least many options to choose from and every month the students only decide the menu - ONLY Vegetarian options are available. Room allotment is biased for NRI students and those who score good marks (distinction) are allowed better rooms

Admission

I applied to the following colleges apart from JSSMC:- JNMC, Belgavi MS Ramaiah, Bengaluru Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi and Faridabad KMC, Manipal and KMC Mangalore Tata-Manipal, Jamshedpur Jamia Humdard, New Delhi As per my NEET Rank I had gotten admission in JNMC, Amrita (both Kochi as well as Faridabad), MS Ramaiah and Tata Manipal. I chose JSS Medical College, Mysore because it had 1) a good NIRF Rank 2) It was near Bengaluru (where my aunt lives) 3) It had excellent patient flow I didn't take admission in JNMC as it was not near Banglore, Amrita, Faridabad was new and Kochi one was really expensive, same with MS Ramaiah and Tata-Manipal had a bad review when I asked the students who were studying there In my college you can take admission by clearing the college cut-off in the NEET exam (which varies every year) and then you can opt for All India Counselling on the MCC and apply for allotment for a seat in Management Quota.

Faculty

4

The faculty student ratio is really nice, and even if one faculty is on leave, the classes don't get cancelled. In first year and second year most of the professors are really helpful and approachable (barring a few), especially Dr Poonam, Dr Hemamalini, Dr Maruti and Dr Shivaprakash in the Anatomy department. Then in Physiology Dr Rajeshwari (HOD), Dr Priya, and Dr Uma are really nice, whereas in Biochemistry Dr Akhila (HOD), Dr Kusuma and Dr Shobha are very good. Dr Vidya CS (HOD - Anatomy dept.) is the only professor I didn't appreciate as she is really rude, insensitive, incompetent, unhelpful, unapproachable and disrespectful especially towards first year students The exam pattern is usually like this:- - 3 Unit Tests (in the first block of each subject) - 3 internals (with the 3rd internal having the whole years complete syllabus as a mock for the university examinations) - 1 university examination (consisting of 2 papers per subject, and if one fails, then he/she has to give supplementary exams) The course curriculum is very well aligned with the CBME and NMC guidelines and is followed very strictly.

Night Life

5

Gym is open in the morning from 5 am till 8 am and in the evening from 6 pm to 9 pm, it is free for hostellites and a 100rs charge is there for non-hostellites (for the whole year), girls and boys have separate gyms Main gate closes at 9:30 pm, Library closes by 11 pm Mysuru is an extremely beautiful city with many places to visit nearby - Mysore Palace, Mysore Zoo and there is a very nice cafe-culture in Mysore with beautiful cafés like Firangi Sutra.

Other Applied Colleges

Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College - [JNMC] | Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

NIRF Ranking was lower; No metro city (like Bengaluru) nearby, as well as no airport in the city, nearest was in Goa, and then a 6 hour journey to Belgavi; Better reviews were of my college

Course Curriculum Overview:

curriculum is designed to be highly relevant and comprehensive for modern medical practice.Early Clinical Exposure is One of the strongest aspects of the curriculum is introducing students to patients in their very second year. The final year of the curriculum—the Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) is effective it prepares students for the high-pressure environment of Indian healthcare, making them very capable of handling emergencies and outpatient departments (OPD ). Students feel that lectures are still too focused on passive PowerPoint presentations.Rigorous schedule, integrating "Life Skills" or "Stress Management" modules more formally into the foundation course would be helpful. The university exams (RGUHS) are generally fair but require a very high level of descriptive writing and practical precision.
