What Students Say?
Likes
- The syllabus and the question papers are decent. The teachers are very dedicated to their teaching and regular classes happens even during the culturals seasons. The academic aspect is very remarkable.
- The quality of the workshops conducted are very good. Students learn pratical counselling skills and not just mere certifications. We are also made to participate in enlightening panel discussions with resource people from our field.
Dislikes
- I didn't like the strictness of the department. Even if you arrive 5 minutes late, you're marked absent. This seriously affects attendance of people travelling almost 3 hours to get to college. I wish they were a little more considerate.
- The teachers do not have a great interpersonal relationship with every students. They are very dedicated to teaching but fail to interact with students in a more relatable way.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is decent, the DSM criterias are taught, books are provided as soft copies. A lot of counselling skills can be learnt by the students. And we're also made to practice them regularly to keep the process effective.
Fees and Financial Aid
A fee of approximately 90,000 rs was asked to be paid for a single year. There was no separate admission fee, but we were asked to pay the first semester fees in a very short time after recieving the selection E mail. I've heard of quotas and reductions, I'm planning to apply, but as of now, there's nobody in my class that's taking use of it.
Campus Life
Ovations happened very recently during August I think. There are so many books to read from, the library is huge here. The classrooms are not satisfactory at all, the is no signal or proper ventilation, everyday we're expected to sit there sweating buckets. There's a projector that helps with the seminars and classes. There are a lot of sports competition but literally no training. There are various clubs at the college where we can participate.
Admission
I only applied to Loyola for counselling psychology course. I applied to two other colleges (SRM and Mgr) for the clinical psychology and got it. But I wanted to pursue a degree in Counselling Psychology so I chose my current college. We were asked to write an entrance exam and then there was a group discussion where our HOD Directly assessed us the did the selection process. There were more than 200 students and only 30 seats were available.
Faculty
There are only 4 teachers. The class strength is almost 30 and we have 6 subjects per semester. Last semester, one teacher had to handle 3 subjects by herself. The relationship we have with the teachers isn't good, it has to be improved. The teachers are very distant and expect the most formal behaviour at all times. They don't really show much empathy. My favourite teacher is Fathima Mam, she's the one that handles 3 subjects for us. Even though she has to do so much work, she still never shows it to us, she's the most friendly and approachable faculty but she's also assertive and doesn't let others take advantage of her friendliness. Another teacher I like is Haripriya Mam, she takes Biopsychology for us, she's the friendliest teacher and is very considerate of us. There are two assessment tests of every subject before semester exam. The paper is not that difficult but had a good standard. The academic aspects and examinations are satisfying.
Night Life
There's no nightlife in campus as far as I know. But the college is located at the city's centre where all the cafe's are present. There are literally a LOT of places around in Nungambakkam to hang out, like Drunken Monkey, Maazi, Loyla Cafe
