Course Curriculum Overview

4

Geological field trip in every year ,this is the one thing which is unique from other institutions which makes me to join this college and the syllabus structure, most of the time entire syllabus wouldn't be completed if they're improving in completing the syllabus would be better

Internships Opportunities

4

Oil and natural gas corporation, central ground water board, tamilnadu water and supply department, national institute of oceanography, national institute of ocean technology, Atomic minerals department these are the few companies which offers internship but mostly with non stipend

Placement Experience

4

Placements are not good literally since companies will offer only 3 lpa and below 20 % of the students only gets placed , generally students from 4 th semester are eligible for placements for geology students companies like RAMCO, some other cement industries and GIS based companies will recruit students based on their skill, I'm already working in Geophysical based company after completing my degree I will use that experience to get placed in top oil oriented company

Fees and Financial Aid

I'm pursuing M.Sc geology in presidency College Chennai, year wise fee details: First year admission fee is 1100 First semester exam fee - 980 Second semester exam fee- 1130 Total first year fee - 3210 Second year admission fee- 580 Third semester exam fee- 1430 Fourth semester exam fee- approximately 1800 Total second year fee - approximately 4000 every semester marksheet fees are included in the semester exam fees this fee structure is uniform for all category students .For hostel initial payment is 16150 in that 10000 is refundable. There are many scholarships available like NSP about 15 k per month for 10 months in a year and state scholarship scheme varies according to their community's and also ongc scholarship is about 48000 per year

Campus Life

3

I have been studying here since my graduation the entire campus life is awesome because students are generally from various parts of India , every year they will conduct sports week , Library is not big and there're many clubs there , in my classroom there some facilities like smart board presentation

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostel infrastructure is good but food they're providing is bad some times it's not properly cooked admission to the hostel is the hectic process more than college admissions, generally PG students will get single sharing or 4 sharing rooms that's their wish and also there're many paying guest available near college may cost around 3 k per month without food

Admission

I applied only 4 colleges including presidency College, central university of Karnataka, pondicherry University during my admission procedure I enquired about other College where there is no geological field trip as good as Presidency college and this makes me to join this college and fees also very low . For getting an admission there will be no arrears in graduation and they have to carry original Transfer certificate on the date of admission and application can be applied in online at TNGASA website cut offs may start from 75

Faculty

4

In Geology department there are 8 staffs and we're 50 pg students and 200 ug students ,college timing is from 8.30 am to 1 pm we have only 5 classes in a day each an hour , facilities are good ,they will support us in every point , HOD is a kind man conducting seminars resources person are mostly from the industrial for an exposure, I like few staffs namely senthil Kumar and singaraja since they have supported me at all times . For every semester exam there will be two internal assessment exam for 40 marks and one model exams before semester exam , semester exam internal marks are 25 mostly every one can get 20 and external mark will be 75 so totally 100 . Every year we have all india geological field trip to study various geological formations and conditions

Night Life

5

Cafeteria is not good and it's very small but now they're constructing a big building, hostel is open there is no time restriction and it's located in heart of the city where local train and bus and metro stations are very near , Marina beach is exactly in front the college

The course curriculum is decent, the DSM criterias are taught, books are provided as soft copies. A lot of counselling skills can be learnt by the students. And we're also made to practice them regularly to keep the process effective.

There is one end semester exam and 2 CIAs in one year.Endsem is for 100m and CIAs are 40marks each . There is one assignment for each CIA for 10m each. So totally both the CIA together is 100 marks. Then the average of CIA and end semester is calculated if 40 or above it's pass otherwise you have to reappear. The subjects are not at relevant as computer science keeps changing regularly.
