A glimpse into the life of literature students at Panjab University.

The curriculum is great in the sense that it is helpful for preparing for the NET and their are options to choose from, which is very important step and need careful consideration while making a choice. Demo classes are provided, to confirm your choice for the subject.

For this department there are no specific companies but many jobs opportunities are provided by the department which includes teaching jobs, copywriting or content writing. Students are encouraged to participate in events hosted by the department which is important to form connections.

For MA English the fees is approx 13,000 for a year, although examination fee is also have to be paid each semester which costs about 3200. The examination fee however increases each semester. For the first semester additional 1000 has to bee paid for the literary society. The amount of fee is same for everyone except the students of sc category in the domicile. Other scholarships can be availed through NSP, which requires above 55% in previous degree or examinations.

There are many fests held within the university campus which provides an overall fun experience. Each department gets to hold their own fest and everyone can be a part of it. Many annual sports are held and one of the important cultural festival is youth fest which is a great platform for people to show their talents. There are diverse groups of people and they have their own clubs like theater club and film clubs etc.

I didn't apply for other colleges because I have been studying in Chandigarh, this was my first choice and I got in without any problems. For taking admission in this course and University, an entrance exam has to be cleared which is subjective in nature. The checking of the exam can be harsh so the students need to be prepared thoroughly .

The faculty to student ratio is average, considering there are two batches but not enough professors to teach and PhD scholars teach most of the time. However the professors and scholars are both easy to approach and communicate. There are 4 semesters in the 2 years span of the degree so there are four final exams and midterms for each semester. The course can be quite difficult to understand in the beginning, hardwork is needed because some students do get failing grades. The course is relevant for the NET exam. Important to remember that they do not have British literature in their curriculum for the first year.

Night life of the university is best, students can have fun as the hostels are open for 24 hrs there is no time restrictions for boys or girls. The university is safe at night most of the time . Students mostly hang out at student centre or the nearby markets.
